"They are turning me into a zombie" says Chapo of prison authorities

Lucio R. Borderland Beat republished from Business Insider

A few weeks ago, the government publicly announced the measures taken, to prevent Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán from escaping prison for a third time.  Among the actions taken is to move Chapo to a different cell every 3 hours, and restricting his attorney visits.

Chapo, through his attorney says it is a little differently, but none the less, whoever you believe, Chapo says lack of continuous sleep is turning him into “a zombie”, below from Business Insider:

Sinaloa drug cartel leader , “El Chapo” claims that prison guards are "turning me into a zombie" because they won't let him sleep, according to the drug lord's lawyer.

Guzmán's lawyer Juan Pablo Badillo told Radio Formula that guards at the Antiplano maximum security prison near Mexico City — the same prison Guzmán escaped from in July 2015 prior to his recapture in January — have made his client feel he is a victim of "physical and mental torture."

“He told me, literally, 'Every two hours, at night, they wake me up to take roll," Badillo told the radio station. "They are turning me into a zombie. They do not let me sleep. All I want is just for them to let me sleep."

Badillo alleged that prison officials are denying Guzmán proper access to legal counsel, only allowing the drug lord about half an hour a week to speak to lawyers.
"It is brutal torture,' he told me," Badillo said. "This is what was done by Stalin in the '40s and '50s in Russia."

    2. ?? He is awake while others sleep is considered a poor baby 817? What about others who cannot sleep because he is awake? Sarcastic or not, it is bullshit not allowing him to sleep. If the guards wake him, then they obviously can check in on him at those times too to make sure he hasn't crawled even through the toilet

    3. And all the people who had their loved ones killed because because of his cartel can not sleep either. There you go people, bad ass narcos in the end are like pretzels (soft in the inside).

  2. Pretty sure if Chapo showed a little kindness to an employee of the prison, maybe have an associate give a guards kid a ride home from school they would see he is not so bad, and doesn't need to be harassed.I think he coud accomplish this.

    1. Free him? Of his responsibilities to taking care of his kids? Up every hour to 2 hours to change and feed his babies, to make sure they develop and grow, hitting all those mile stones. If he is extradited to the U.S., he will have to learn some of the American culture, even if diverse, to be able to survive. He does not know the American culture except through drugs, and a shiny black silk suit with snake skin boots and a gold gun does not blend in many other countries. He won't experience culture shock then, as there are some descent father's out there today.

    2. 4:13 pm that is because apparently you aren't to smart. The Sinaloa cartel is just as guilty as harming innocent people as much as any other cartel. If anyone is stupid enough to feel sorry for one and release him, then why bother catching them? Free them all and say the hell with Mexico, right? Political? Let's put aside the government for a second. How many non political innocent lives have been lost? I do not mean other cartel rivals, but people who may have reported a wrong doing, or just being at the wrong place at the wrong time. People like you are a great example of why the drug war will never end. Education? You need it. This is not all about the US you know. It is about a country being destroyed by people who only care about their massive income over human life. He has done his share as all the rest have, and for that he should pay. Complaining about sleep is not going to help him. Prison was never intended to be Club Med. Reap what you sow!!!!

    3. 724. How did you find so many things to write out of 3 sentences, and in a assumption manner?
You must be one of those representatives for a state. Very impressive yet very ignorant to read into it like that, considering the political arena does drugs too, and destroys more lives. More lives are destroyed by large corporations, which includes a greater percentage than not in comparison of innocents. Do your research. And people like who? Go play at your Superfund sites, as you obviously prefer that. You are correct about the drug war will never end, so why waste your time?
I never stated a preference, so people like you need to understand what you read before you pick up the mighty pen.
You are fired for being a representative for whatever state 724, as can see you are only out to shine your own shoes
Oh BTW 724, when you find where I wrote to free Guzman, just post another notation of where and what time. I am sure you will be too busy finding nothing

    It was chapo that decided to try taking Laredo and Juarez which led to the thousands of killings; since he started the war along with Calderon we see killings each day;

Now, he starts to pay and the people of the United States of Mexico want this coward to be extradited to los estados unidos americanos by July at the latest.

Each day he is here the country suffers given he continues to give orders from the jail.

Chapo asked for this treatment when he escaped so, it is justified if you'd ask GGL.

  21. Pathetic article... should have thought about that before you decided to make a biography... if 10 000 people in juarez had to decide between being woken up every 3 hours vs being beaten to death with a baseball bat or having your head cut off , I'm almost completely sure waking up every 3 hours takes the cake. Now, I come on here to educate myself on what's going on on Mexico. I don't cheer for any cartel. But to read an article about a capo, doesn't matter who, complaining about their conditions in prison...makes me smile. Poor country or not they are humans with a choice, many families men and women make an honest living , loving their family and getting by. Hundreds of Italian men in the 5 families of new York have said this. "Being in prison will show what kind of man you are, you 'll either rat out your peers and complain, or do your time like a man. This article seems to say the man has started to do his very long time the dishonorable way.
