Michoacan business woman throat slashed in Tepalcatepec

by Lucio R. Borderland Beat

Autodefensas crushed; Violence and insecurity has returned to Michoacán

Yolanda Chávez Contreras, a young Tepalcatepec, Michoacán business woman was executed as she left her home on la Avenida Misión around 11am.  Her throat was slashed and  decapitated, in broad daylight, across from a busy hotel.

Her killing was reported by the Rural Force command.

Yolanda Contreras Chavez was about 33, was a widow and had several businesses in the area, including Alonso, a water purifying company.

Quadratín is reporting the attorney general of Michoacán may have ties to Cartel Jalisco New Generation. (CJNG)

Violence has returned to Michoacán to its pre-autodefensa level.

In  February 24, 2013 the  Michoacán Autodefensa Union was established, comprised of  civil defense groups that drove members organized crime from cities including  Tepalcatepec, home of Dr. Manuel Mireles.  The autodefensa groups were responsible for monitoring the cities with checkpoints and patrols, until they were disintegrated by the then commissioner for security in Michoacán, Alfredo Castillo, and in May 2014 he established the controversial Rural Force.

El Mencho and his Jalisco Cartel, was the big winner in the outcome of the 2013-2015 “cleanup” by Castillo and the EPN government.

The autodefensas were conducting a successful operation of searching and locating key pockets of cartel activity and leaders, however when the EPN government forces stepped in after ignoring Michoacán for 9 years, they worked against autodefensas and not in tandem with the group.

La Tuta and his Caballeros Templarios was severally weakened, but without government stabilizing measures of security, Mencho, long keen for Michoacán territory, stepped in and was able to gain control of Michoacán.

People have once again become terrorized as the return of crime, murder, kidnappings, and extortion, have once again flooded the region. “Anxiety, terror, and uncertainty has returned”, says one former commander of the autodefensas.

Castillo shut down the movement, imprisoned hundreds of autodefensas, including the Coastal Autodefensas Leader Dr. Mireles, clearing the pathway for criminality to return to business as usual.

  2. stupid Castillo! but then again, if a good politician in Mexico existed he would be 6 feet deep. sad to say but cartels say who is president, governor, mayor, or anything in power. that's the way it goes in Mexico. To make it worse, look at the autodefenzas. They are in prison for standing up for themselves. ridiculous! what a shame.., i'm from Michoacan but not going back anytime soon.

Your are probably right on the money. I know wonderful people here in Chihuahua that have been executed for not baby the extortion. One amazing person we lost just recently was shot in the head as he closed the metal curtain on the front of his business. Everyone knows that it happened because he was just a week late on his payment. He left a pregnant wife and two children that will no longer have a good father. Here in Chihuahua there are complete blocks of vendors that pay extortion. They have a list and they walk around openly and collect it. EVERYONE knows the money is divided up, with some going to the police for allowing this to happen. If they protest or close their doors for a while in protest, they are on notice that their whole families will be executed. Many of the businesses have to sell pirated CD's from one group, and if they make their own or sell someone else's they will be killed. They also have a sales quota that they have to meet each week and sometimes have to pay for them out of their own pockets. This is all known by government and is well known by the public as large. It is known by all, but with the Federal Police, local police, military, government and criminals working to steal from the hard working people, things cannot and will not change. All this crime and graft money follows to the top of the food chain.

    3. Chihuahua owes all its blessings to one genius politician turned multimillionaire banker, in dollars not pinchis pesos, his name gobernador Cesar Duarte, who like many other governors sells the same plazas big and small to the different narcs, but has his own "line" to run his shit for him, yes, it all goes to the biggest politicians...

  8. Reprehensible for this defenceless woman and the female mayor shot after one day of being in office. I'm upset and horrified still after reading bb for a few years that these atrocities happen in Mexico which should be a civilised country.

    9. Hopefully one day Mexico won't need BB...I'm sure Chivas et al won't mind having no autrocities to write. Till then and like most of you I will be here in the background.

      President Enrique Pena Nieto,

As you were graciously greeted by HRH Queen Elizabeth ll at Buckingham Palace the world observed your exquisite posture and good manners which were matched only by your wife's charm and impeccable haute couture creme gown. It is with the same warmth and respect you were bestowed during your royal audience I hope is extended to the Mexican peoples' 'King' the benevolent Dr. José Manuel Mireles.

~Canadian girl...not to be confused with other Canadians...thx BB readers above for good wishes + the polar bears thank u too.

    1. Saw it . Commented on it here but got deleted . Wasn't the same way all the AD were portrayed in the articles I had read . Supposedly they had defeated the cartel in the area with nothing more than primitive hunting rifles. That weren't what they were using ! I called bullshit on the AD and got deleted

      Delete
    2. As Chivis stated previously, "Cartel Land was not unfair to the AD's, but it was incomplete and therefore inaccurate"
The film maker said that he had read one article on the cartels and the AD's before he went to Mich. to make the film. There was no research done before he filmed it.
@9:44. You mentioned that the film wasn't the same as the articles you had read. If you read all the articles BB had done on the ADs you know much more about what happened there than the film maker. The film really didn't give the context of the violence the people were enduring that led to the formation of the ADs'. It didn't include the corruption of the govt there, nor the governments failure to respond to that violence and protect the people. The film maker has stated he didn't want to make a historical account of the ADs but more of a snapshot of what was happening on the ground now. BB reported all that from the inception of the ADs, including leadership disputes between different ADs, some accepting "reformed CTs" as members and some not, as well as in the beginning starting with primitive weapons and getting more moderate weapons as they won battles and confiscated the cartels caches of weapons. As their success grew, they gained benefactors that provided more up to date weapons. IMO you can't understand the AD movement without putting all that in context. It is not accurate to paint all the ADs with a broad brush and say they are BS. Some were (are) bad and some are good.
