The shootout occurred around 2 PM near the town of Caborca in Sonora, when authorities received a report that in the Colonio Alto several gunmen had kidnapped a person.
Police elements (PEI) recognized a gray Jeep brand vehicle as described in the kidnapping, after ignoring the police command to stop, the pursuit began. The suspects began firing at police who returned fire.
Even though SDR warnings were immediately published throughout social media to stay away from the area of confrontation, onlookers began arriving trying to get video footage and photos which complicated the situation.
In the balance 5 dead sicarios and 4 wounded elements. The officers are expected to fully recover and were airlifted to a hospital in Hermosillo.
Cañadas Culiacán, Sinaloa 2 hour shootout
A shootout commenced after police elements conducted a raid at 165 del fraccionamiento de San Carlos in Colonia Cañadas. Police suspected a kidnapped victim being held at that location.
Elements of the Mexican Marina, exchanged gunfire with the suspects for two hours.
Three suspects were killed in the shootout, and three arrested. No reported injuries sustained by the Marina.
In neither case was it reported if or if not the kidnapped victims were found.
