Narco corrido Singer Rogelio Brambila Lizárraga, Killed in Tijuana

Lucio R. Borderland Beat- using material from AFN and Proceso

Today the Baja California’s attorney general’s office confirmed the death of Rogelio Brambila Lizárraga, a singer of the Tijuana Norteño band "Los Plebes de Arranke".

He was murdered in the early hours of Saturday.  He was killed on Manuel M. Flores Street in the Montebello division of the border city of Tijuana.  His body, in a sitting position,  was discovered inside a white Audi with gunshot wounds. There were several bullet impacts on the vehicle body and windshield.

The Tijuana based group "Los Plebes de Arranke" is known for composing and singing corridos that are in reference to the Arellano Felix Cartel.

The Twenty-two year old was asleep at home when he received a phone call at 1 a.m., that caused him to leave his residence.  He told his family he was leaving; “to buy tacos”.

Shell casings from 9mm and .40 caliber weapons were found at the scene.

  3. I'm sorry, but good riddance. To all of them.

They give real, authentic Mexican music a very bad name.

So many great norteña and banda acts have been just thrown aside with this new disgusting narco/parranda/corrido crap. Ya, bye!

  4. Being a narco corrido singer is probably one of the deadliest jobs in the world at this point. You might be better off being a member of the local bomb squad.

  5. That's the final straw. I'm never leaving my family and going out for tacos in Tijuana at 1 am again.

    1. That's the first thing that came to mind after I read the piece. Who wakes up at one a.m. and goes out to get tacos? Unless, Tacos is code for drugs or whores, I don't understand.

    2. Well think about it.....is one a 1am, you get a phone call in your cell phone...."hey pendejo check out side your window", you see 4 suv with mask pendejos with ak 47 and some machetes...they they you either come with us or we come for you and we take your family along for the ride....just tell them you going out for tacos.....tijuana is a nice place ,but it could be a bitch at times.....just saying. Anyways. Roger was a good singer...I like his corridos..fuck sinaloa.

  15. To the fella that said " Good riddance". Why are you glad that he's dead ? Would you be glad if an actor like Al Pacino was gunned down for portraying a mafioso in a movie ? How about the Mexican actors who depict these narcos in movies ? Just because you don't agree with the music does not make it ok for these young men to be murdered in such a violent way. They are just telling stories of the current situations in MEX. Yes the majority get paid off by the narcos to write songs but actors get paid to portray these criminals correct ? By the way even old norteno singers sang about narcos during their time. If you don't like the music than ignore it ! I dislike country music but do not wish death upon those singers.

    1. Well stated Mars220. There are some "ignorant" people (putting it politely) that state generalizations when all they know is what they see on Univision Or heard something third person or saw on some in some slanderous journalism seeking to maximize ratings; and when people are not intelligent enough to think objectively it leads to ignorance and indifference.

    2. Is not just music.....listen to the lyrics..is propaganda for the CAF....if he got killed is because he refuse to promote music for cartel de sinaloa.....Look up DAMAGE KREW PRODUCTIONS....on you tube ,they focus mainly on CAF related corridos.....so is true sinaloa has tijuana by the balls , but Roger refuse to be a manguera,"no volteo bandera" like many other artists....

      Delete
    3. Al Pacino isn't getting paid to portray the Mafia by the Mafia. Which is not to say I disagree with you, but they are two very different things

      Delete
    4. Look the mafia is fake is like sopranos made up shit .....cartels is real shit that you can see. Smell & taste, all you need is to go mexico. Look I know is hard for some to understand but is not just music is bragging rights....I know some pendejo that paid, $5000 dollars for a fucking corrido, back on the 1990s because he was real good at cooking crystal meth. The point is that now a days there is some narco corridos artist that know that writing and promoting a certain cartel with or without permission is fucking deadly.....is like going to matamoros and asking el 50-50 el barret a local rapper to make a song about you...all it takes is money but I never seen el 50 composing songs about the zetas. Is always about el golfo...the point is that in mexico shit gets real deadly , super quick.....

    5. Terrible example. Al Pacino is not championing being a narco. Most of these groups do. Simple as that. Some are just telling stories, but others are trying to live the life. How people can't see the difference is beyond me.

    6. 9:13 am First off all how do you know it is a fella. Second actors depict a story that is true and usuallyit doesn't praise these wrong acts. I agree no one should be murdered but in Mexico participating in these actions has resulted in that and it has never been a secret. Promoting violence and deaths as positive is not a good thing. You can call these guys singers all you want, but they sound like crap. Simply said anyone can sing like they do. No creative style yelling over loud awful music. No one should be murdered, but if a person continuously play with gasoline and matches, eventually they will get burned. Now the responsible, peaceful people should mourn? I think not. 9:52 pm did make one excellent point, there is great music from the latin heritage, yet much of it doesn't get recognized because the headlines only read about crap like this. 9:13 am you go in a corner and mourn, but remember to buy yourself a clue. He chose his path and it led where it always does!

  16. Anyone who says this is CDS "cleanig the plaza" is a pendejo. This is a personal hit coming from either Aquiles or Rana for singing anti-CDS corridos. Hardly the sign of strength for CDS in Tijuana, more like a sign of weakness to pick off a single bandleader outside his home.

    1. CDS are big boys. They don't go shooting and heating up their plaza because they get offended by some lyric. That's what separates them from the little boy zetas who have the business acumen of a taco

    2. Well put 5:49 - and funny - the business acumen of a taco!

    3. 5:49 that's bullshit the cds are the ones who went into many cities all over mexico and heated up plazas ... that's why shit got bad in nuevo laredo in 2005 but miguel and his crew kicked the cds out that's why chapo had so much hatred t words him ... no pudo con el 40

  23. The kid and his group Los Plebes de Arranke were stepping in hot water. Just checked out their 2015 corridos on the tube. Man, these guys thought they were still in the 90s and imagined presumably that they were under the protection of an "Arellano heavyweight" This is not 1996 anymore. Why do you think explosion nortena got the picture and even started singing a couple of few sinaloa corridos until they just vanished from the TJ scene? It's very unfortunate that an inspiring youngster like this with a long prospect future ahead of him has to end it with this kind of road block. Why glorify an almost extinct animal holding on a thread when the 500 pound elephant is already in the room? Seriously like I said , we are not living 20 years ago. If Pancho Arellano got clipped from up there what makes this music group think that they wont touch them?. Quit singing to these lowlifes who at the end of the day keep eating their lobster regardless if you get clipped or not.

    3. Just cause caf is smaller does not mean they are gone. He wasnt singing to the old school cat, he sang to the people on the streets these present days. About exlosion nortena, they started singing to sinaloa after beto got jailed. Chino antrax and them hired them for their parties. Tijuana is no ones territory, there is comperition even between aquiles and rana so dontbe ao sure that tijuana is run by one team.
