US calls for a transparent investigation in the Iguala case

Chivis Martinez for Borderland Beat

As the Iguala case finally received attention from the world press,  a full week and a half after the shootings and mass kidnappings, the White House has addressed the issue by asking for Mexico to conduct “a transparent investigation”.

"This is an alarming crime that demands a full, transparent investigation," said US State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki.  The next part of the the statement depicts how little the US knows of who is responsible and how deeply embedded organized crime control is in Guerrero, Psaki continues "The perpetrators must be brought to justice."

In a case where the president of Mexico has shown no interest in, and in fact cancelled a planned trip to Guerrero last week, it will be interesting to see how he reacts to foreign pressures, if he reacts at all.

OAS Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza called for "the clarification of the murders that have brought grief not only to the Mexican people but to all the countries of the Americas."

PGR Arrives in 5 helicopters-Mexico's attorney general leading the investigation

Five PGR  helicopters with forensic scientists, prosecutors and investigators arrived today in  Iguala, Guerrero, where federal Attorney General,  Jesús Murillo Karam is  leading the investigation against those responsible for the disappearances of 43 normal school.

Arriving today aboard PGR helicopters were; federal  institution staff of  prosecutors, forensic experts, criminologists and specialists.  Federal police arrived and took over the police duties until a new municipal policee department can be vetted and certified, including polygraphs.  100 cadidates were moved to Tlaycala for investigations. 1. WTF? Transparency? Thats the pot calling the kettle black. Obama is such a fucking incompetent jerk that he ran his 1st election on "transparency" and the American people were blindsided by his lies. There has been no transparency in his inept administration so EPN is just going to flip him the bird.

Why is the USA now only worried about first the 22 young cartel terrorists murdered and now this? They should be worried and CONCERNED about all the atrocities happening in Mexico not just singling out what they want to point at because of the "world press". Obama just trying to get brownie points but he is a failed president, the worst in USA history.

Obama should be concerned about all the killings, not just ones he wants to hear is name mentioned on. What about the slaughter of the 72 migrants, the mass body dumps of innocents, the Casino fire and mass murder, the massacred musical bands. The list goes on and now the USA wants to jump in with their 2 cents of cheap talk??...FUCK U USA FUCK U OBAMA! Nothing more than a socialist pig!

If you want to help Mexico, get some boots on the ground and handle the matter of eliminating the cartels! Hell, you invade every other country in the world and Mexico is a stones throw away. Point is, the USA doesn't want to stop the cartels, the govt will start losing $$$ if the shut down the drug trade. Hypocrite SOB's!

    1. 9:06 You really need to take a Xanax. Mexico is doomed no matter who says what or who tries to help. If you think that Obama is the problem you are hopeless. If Mexico can't and won't help it's own people then what makes you think the US government can help. No one can imagine how much pressure a president of any country is actually under. I wouldn't want the job even if my life depended on it. If you are big and brave in real life like you appear on BB maybe you can become the 2014 version of Zorro. You can right all the wrongs in Mexico and lead a new revolution against the tyrants of the world.

  3. Very sad that it took the involvement of the international press and Obama. The Mexican government now will at least pretend to do something. This massacre will become iconic, as defining Mexico for at least a generation. It should.

  4. Bout damn time! I ask the big hats in DC what's up with the news embargo in rural Mexico ? The backpressure I get is 'Ebola; Ebola;Ebola'. Enough! Friends and neighbors of Mexico need to move upstream in this crises and stop pulling the bodies out downstream! What ever happened to the Merida Initiative.

  10. The U.S. doesn't really want to do anything. A revolution on the southern border might involve refugees. Others have pointed out that there is high suspicion of politico funding from the illicit organizations, in the U.S. and in Mexico. What is the difference between the two countries? The AMOUNT of the bribe.

  11. damn damn shame in mexico. this whole Iguala case and explicit involvement of a mayor in the actual cartel operations have exposed the actual power structure of mexican cartels if people dont know it already:

True Don/Boss/Jefe - are actual politicians. governors and mayors.

Underbosses - are actually the tutas, el h, z40s. chapito isidros

how many politicians have to be exposed as utterly corrupt with ties to mexico's current president before people wake the hell up and figure out that the biggest crime overlord in mexico is EPN????

  15. @9:06 Obama has been president of the US for six years now, and for six years has battled the declared opposition to anything he backs up, even republican supported programs, approved by democrats, and the senate, the moment president Obama signs it or expresses the least intention of supporting it, it becomes a bone of contention, unleashing tea party political opposition and obstruction from a do nothing congress that has less than half of the good ratings of public opinion president Obama has...
--Operation wide receiver started discreetly under pres g.w. bush was unleashed by weapons merchants to grab some millions of that drug trafficking money, probably behind the backs of both presidents, and continued under obama as fast and furious, as a part of national security, obama and co. can't sing, that is policy, orders from above, capisci?

--the CIA's drug trafficking, the bush crime family, the school of the americas, all the operations carried all over the latin americas, has become mexico's nightmare, and has the world on the brink of WWIII, thanks to the nazis helped by the US and the CIA, to escape to south america, by anti jew naz-zionista jew heinz "henry" kissinger, and the CIA...
--the ambitions of zionist henry kissinger and his council of 40, his creation as part and founding father of group bilderberg, who decides who lives and who dies on the world...
--your silly rants about President Obama being the coco, sucks too much tea party nazi brew, i would not ask you to STFU, because, how else are we going to know your level of ignorance?
--neo-liberals have exacted conflicts all over the world now, from the US who pays for them, for the US military/industrial complex president eisenhower warned the US about on his farewell speech, and now it has been proved right. --private concerns driving the US war machine to armageddon, with their private armies and soldiers of fortune, for which they demand the US taxpayers pay outlandish prices and with the lives of the sons and daughters they put on the line to mask their unpatriotic goals of earning billions the old way, by swindling billions out of the US credit card...
--it is not fuck the US, it is about fuck the US criminal chickenhawks who want all the money but will not send their precious babies to fight their wars for them, and who benefit from the cartels and their politicians shenanigans, as usual, by doing their part, laundering dirty money, andmo' dirty drug money...
--if the american public furnishes the manpower that provides the carcasses, that feed the billionaire vulture capitalist global ambitions, mexico, like latin
america and all of the whole wide world can suck ass and do their part, kiss the ass of the rich and pay the devil's tax...
--the rich won't pay any tax as usual, they are exempt...

  16. One thing is for sure: that when a government denies something then the opposite is true for sure.

Hence, "The next part of the the statement depicts how little the US knows of who is responsible" in reality means the US knows EXACTLY who is responsible and want them taken out.

And who is surprised? With the NSA looking into everything there is no 'not knowing' anymore.

EPN: There's a lot of money to be made off the backs of these poor peasants. We have too much to lose!

George W. had some huge debacles while he was president for damn sure. But I guess people tend to have short term memories.

You hit it right on the head with your post! If I could write as well as you I would have said the same. However one little thing, and maybe you meant something else, but it comes across differently.

I live in Mexico and because of all the violence I would not say fuck you Mexico, because you are talking down all the people here. I would also not say fuck you USA because you are talking down the good people of the USA also. I guarantee you that good people are the same no matter where they come from.

If you say fuck the Obama and his government and fuck Nieto and his government I would agree 100%, as I feel the same. People in the USA are appalled by this I am sure, maybe even more so than the people here in Mexico when they here about it.

On the other hand I cannot add anything to what you said. You nailed it hands down!

Chivas. How would you feel about the USA putting troops on the ground in Mexico? I have asked a lot of people here over time, and some would like the help, and others say no. I think the help would be great, because you cannot extort the soldier so easily, and threaten to kill the soldiers family back in New York or where ever he may be from.

    2. @10:48. Read your history please. The Middle East has been in turmoil for hundreds of years. The Shiite, Sunni, Persian, Arabic Christians and Jews have been fighting each for along time. When there are no more foreign troops in the Middle East they will still be fighting. No one on this green earth can stabilize the Middle East. Almighty God himself cannot stabilize the Middle East. I truly believe that Mexico can be saved in time but I think things will get a lot worse before they get better.

I get what you are saying 3:00p but the reality is the answer to question is more complex than better or worse. First, the US never should have invaded Iraq in 2002. Second, its better for the Kurds and non- Muslims in Iraq and Syria the US is there. It's actually better for the Shiite population also. Third, the US is making it worse for those groups terrorizing the population. It's more than about oil this time around.

  19. Finally , Finally , the mainstream media has decided to air the atrocities in Mexico. What about the youths a week or so back in San Fernando Tamps taken from the bus with the flat tire? And the poor souls on the buses detoured onto the ranch in San Fernando and systematically killed and raped ? The truth will come out about whats happening . Mexico can run but cannot hide. Spread the word people , tell your friends and get the word out.

  21. I agree at 9:06pm but lets blame Obama and Nieto. The ppl of both countries are puppets to both regimes. I fully agree with an American incursion into Mexico to confront the enemy terrorists face to face and to eliminate by any means possible. The Americans I feel need no consent for the protection of their ppl and if it means invading Mexcio to get the cartels then so be it.

On the other hand, if the military were to get involved from the USA and wage war in Mexico then the innocents need to be protected to the fullest extent. There needs to be a fine line of serving and protecting as the soldiers will be risking their lives to protect the ppl of Mexico so they must NOT abuse the rights of these defenseless ppl and should help in any way possible.

Mexico does not want the Americans as an invasion party because that would be cutting into their drug $ and bribes. Effectively cutting all the corrupt Mexican officials off and actual identification of all corrupt parties. The Mexican officials working and accepting $ from the cartels cannot risk the exposure so they would continually block any request for USA troops on Mexican soil.

The USA operates a hunter/killer airborne task force in Honduras without that countries consent. I feel we do not need Mexico's consent to stop a global insurgency and epidemic similar to AL-qaeda and ISIS. IMOO

  25. That´s not only a shame...It is an atrocity to see and live in this country. People everywhere shows up the lack of education and too many families educate their sons and daughters to have relationships with NACOS and NARCOS... Lots of towns have in their public transportation system music like NARCO-CORRIDOS and you can buy everywhere very vulgar films and videos...That´s how this country is becoming an atrocity. We have neighborhood crowded of people who practice evil and now everybody is surprised.. Lots of politicians have been exposed as utterly corrupt with ties to Mexico's current president EPN. But who cares if USA has expressed some concern about it.... Justice system is a fraud in this country and all criminals, murderers and kidnappers are free in a very short period of time once the judges never found any evidence about their crimes. It is the State, it is the Police, it is the Families, it is the School.. it is everywhere... Jails are plenty of corruption and swindlers and prisoners pay even for sleeping in bed… What is this… A joke….Government knows all this atrocities and does nothing. It´s not simple to give resolutions to Mexican mess, but if something is really clear is that corruption, fraud, and thieving is our daily bread. How our politicians are going to negotiate with such social animals and beasts… drug traffickers and kidnappers. If they are put in jail just for a while and if they pay lots of money in exchange for their liberation, what Mexicans can wait or what Mexicans can claim... Citizens are like puppets, just watching and supporting all their atrocities... Some of them claim.. but it is a very weak voice if the majority of people is distracted with stupid and banal things.... Rich and poor are the same thing in many cases... Who cares my dear???' Now that something happens everybody is opening his eyes while in home everybody is doing nothing. Education is the transmission of civilization, but what kind of civilization is constructing Mexico with such habits and cultural expressions where NARCO CORRIDOS, POUNDS OF SEX, AND NARCO FILMS are the cultural things they live and observe every day. You can visit places or sites where poor people lives and you will observe how families educate their children. I am not sure why people are so surprised with Mexican crimes and Lifestyle. You can observe the members of parliament, the police, the teachers, the daddies and moms, and the president with his whole family and they cannot show any refinement or class. Top down is living as nothing happens and people care only about themselves and their families and what happens outside their familiar circle is not of their business. Society cannot build a country or a civilized population if people are poorly educated, but worse scenario, if politicians are poorly formed.

    2. Sometimes the truth cuts deep doesn't Oct 8, 2014 @10:22p. The comment doesn't sound racist to me at all because I understand what 2:31p is saying. If you see the comment as racist jargon then you might want to rethink your mind set. 2:31p is speaking the truth and the truth hurts us all. The NARCO mentality has to change from within Mexico's borders first before any other country can help. When Colombia as a country was tired of the bloodshed of the innocent citizens the government reached out to the US and now you see the results. Obviously the drugs are still produced but the needless violence against the public has dropped drastically since the dismantling of the Colombian cartels. Why can't that happen in Mexico?
