After his arrest, Azul's son confirmed his father is deceased

Borderland Beat posted by Siskiyou_Kid
Juan José Esparragoza Jiménez, arrested last weekend by elements of the Ministry of the Navy, has pled not guilty of the charges of drug trafficking, and weapons charges against him before a federal judge, but said that his father, Juan José Esparragoza, el Azul, is dead, as was unofficially reported last June.

After his arrest,  Esparragoza Jiménez gave his preparatory statement to the third district judge in matters of federal criminal processes in the State of Mexico, at headquarters in Toluca.  He was  arrested last Wednesday 20 in Culiacán, Sinaloa, although the apprehension was not known until Monday, the 25th. He is being detained in the Altiplano prison,

According to judicial sources, the detainee stated  "deceased" in pertaining to his father, Juan José Esparragoza Moreno, one of the founders of the Sinaloa Cartel and who - according to the weekly Ríodoce, Culiacán-died after he was in a car accident.

Regarded as the "Godfather of Godfathers" for the relations he maintained with the authorities and other drug trafficking cartels, el Azul was a drug trafficking legend in Mexico. There are few known images of him, although in it's Edition 1963, June 15, Proceso magazine published photographs allegedly taken of the capo during the 2012 Christmas holidays.

With that alleged death and the arrest of Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán, the past February 22, also at the hands of the Navy, the Sinaloa Cartel will only be controlled by what remains of its founders, Ismael el Mayo Zambada.

Juan Ignacio Esparragoza Jiménez, eldest son of the el Azul and brother of the man arrested last, died in Guadalajara, four years ago, after having suffered an accident, falling from the top of a building, in Culiacán.  He was interned at the Los Angeles hospital and despite the efforts of medical specialists over several weeks, they failed to save him.

Juan José Esparragoza Jiménez, el Cora, is the youngest son of el Azul, from his second marriage. He was arrested along with another person in a raid carried out by Marines in the Interlomas neighborhood, to the northeast of the capital of Sinaloa.

The Navy handed surrendered custody to the Federal District [DF] to the Attorney General of the Republic, which reported it Sunday 24 within the criminal case 65/2014. It accuses him as probable   responsibility  for crimes against health, in the form of methamphetamine production and possession for the purpose of trade in methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana.

According to the a bulletin issued by the federal government [Segob] José Juan Esparragoza Jiménez and Joel Vázquez Valdenegro were arrested with two bags with 27 and 47 grams of green grass, with the features of marijuana; a package with 369 grams of white powder, apparently cocaine; a rifle, a handgun and 75 useful cartridges, as well as 26 pounds and 50,000 ml of what appears to be methamphetamine, and 2,746,000 pesos in cash.

Elements of the army dismantled five methamphetamine laboratories allegedly run by José Juan Esparragoza Jiménez, operating in the states of Sinaloa and Durango. According to military information, one of the laboratories was secured in the vicinity of the town of Tamazula, Durango, with 1.5 hectares (15,000 sq meters)  with features of a factory.

The Tamzula property had different areas, among them buildings for staging of  chemicals, a mixing area, processing , finish and packaging, as well as a dormitory.

The military operations were carried out a few days after the arrest of the alleged son of Juan José Esparragoza Moreno, el Azul.

In addition to denying the charges, the detainees asked duplicity of the constitutional deadline for the judge handed down for automatic freedom or detention. The deadline expires next Saturday, the 30th of August at 11:20. [click image below to enlarge]

  3. Tamazula? to Torreôn? about 500 miles or so. But if driving it is about 11 or 12 hr,s I would think, because one would have to backtrack to Culiacan and south along the coast then up through Dgo to Coa. Tamazula is isolated and really only one good road in/out

  9. Really? The great big boss and godfather of drug trafficking could not give his own children a better education other than being narcs too?
All we need to know now is how much money el azul left behind, and who took it, like amado carrillo's investments in mexico, cuba, chile, argentina, brasil, etc all but dissappeared, and the family still going to prison, persecuted or murdered, enjoy the inheritance narco-families!!!

Who cares about inheritances, when a loved one is gone? Is that what your father taught you to care about? Money? That's why some Narcos make better parents than wound up, uptight squares, that try to control their children's destiny. They'll enjoy an inheritance of respect and honor. He was a man who knew how to keep the peace, and his family will sow what he reaped. You're just a fool who knows how to run his mouth. Let's see what you running your mouth will get your family.

    1. Proof? I just don't believe it. Azul's son is more powerful in what way? I can see him getting more respect because of the way his dad handled business but I don't see him being more powerful. Chapo's sons are a step below Damaso, they have taken over much of their fathers empire. Is Azul's son a big time pusher? If so why is he never mentioned like Chapo, Mayo or even Lic's sons?

    2. look azul was way more powerful than mayo and chapo. He was the jefe.. why you ask.. You want proof. Well azul had the conection from the goverment he had the last saying he was giving protection to mayo and chapo . and guess what hes son now is in charge.. Not this one..he had the connection on the pinos...he did try to be a low profile.. He was el jefe.. From both chapo and mayo.. And as far as damaso taking over guzmans territory. I dont think so. They are still one group... I beleive damaso dad has more expirience . than alfredo and ivan.. And lets not forget al guano..desde aqui del tubo.. Eldrdo

  25. The new young bloods is the Sinaloa cartel are as smart if not smarter than the elders who are in prison or dead. Half of them are American citizens and bribe the border on both sides. They put friends in border patrol to have easy access to pass drugs through American soil. All the do is pay 50 grand for each truck to look the other side. I personally know 2 agents who work the El Paso I10 checkpoint and are getting a years salary on each load. They are smart. They don't show their money but they could probably retire in a years work!

  26. Yeah, there is a lot of drama and drama mamas in BB too, and snitches, talking about the secret business of police with narco-managing is not good, the lowly police, poorly paid, are suppossed to take bribes, to look the other way, but the truth is, they may make a tip here and there, because the big police bosses and chiefs are the ones who take not kickbacks, but the lion's share by extorting the big cartels bosses, after being paid millions of pesos every month by the government, they really need the other million of dollars every month from the narcs, who then have free reign on killing and murdering to make up for the expenses of supporting the government officers pimping their arses, presidents, security ministers, federal police, army/navy ginirals, governors, all of them CORRUPT and without remedy, i hope el azul pass his black book or his blue book or his red book to his children, he knew how much everybody's booty was up for, like frank costello, who understood when it was time to go, and did not rat on anybody, not even his shooterwho would have taken it on the chin, gigante.

  38. After Nazario Moreno faked his death in Michoacan with government complicity, I will believe just about anything, although I tend to think el Azul really is dead.

The family was fairly discrete about the memorials, and there was not any concentrated effort to find him.

However, I can't disagree with anyone who doubts his death, because we don't have proof. The stories of his death are convoluted as to whether it was an auto accident, or a heart attack when he tried to get out of bed in the morning.

I don't see how his death could be proved, because his body was reportedly cremated and the ashes scattered......................
