Human Rights Commission and Medical Professionals Barred from Seeing Dr Mireles

Chivis Martinez Borderland Beat
Federal Elements took Dr. Mireles' trademark hat and posed wearing it while he was in handcuffs
Doctors and Human Rights Commission
A group of social leaders and  supporters of Dr, Mireles visited the Hermosillo Maximum Prison where  the doctor and autodefensa leader is being held.  The group of 30 leaders were at the prison for two hours and were denied access to the doctor.

Part of the group were Doctors Adoracion Benitez and Roberto Holguin.  Holguin is the director of the Casa del Diabectico.  They asked permission to examine  Mireles to determine his health and well being.  They were denied access.

The group of social leaders then went to the Human Rights Commission to meet with  Raul Ramirez, the president of Sonora Human Rights Commission.

A delegation of Human Rights visitors including a physician to conduct a well check on Dr. Mireles, traveled to the prison.  The Human Rights Commission are supposed to have full access to all prisons and prisoners.

They too were denied access to Dr. Mireles.

Before leaving the prison entry, authorities ordered all cameras confiscated, including those of the press whereby all photos and video footage were deleted and memory sticks removed.

Dr Holguin stated his intent was to check on Dr. Mireles, and to give a diagnosis and prescribe insulin and glucose in hoping  that he would then be permitted to receive medicine and proper food.

He stated  that the weather in Hermosillo has been over 100 degrees and the insulin would have to be refrigerated or temperatures over 80 degrees will inactivate the insulin.

He also stressed if Dr Mireles continues to be withheld the prescribed food and insulin it would result in his death.
Bruise on upper arm
Helicopter Terror
Dr Mireles was handcuffed behind his back, hooded and then blindfolded.  for six hours, even during his helicopter transfer.  He said he thought they would push him into the sea. The transferring of even the most brutal criminal has never before  included such treatment.  (see video below as he was transferred)

He was physically abused, leaving bruises, also bruised on his wrists from the handcuffs being tighten to the extreme.

Support growing at a fast rate
Protests, rallies, journalists, activists, political leaders, priests, on both sides the border have begun a ground swell of organized and individual support of Dr Mireles, and are demanding his release. Four cities so far  in the United States have scheduled rallies, LA, San Jose, Phoenix and NYC.

Additionally many Michoacan cities have marched peacefully in protest.  Lazaro Cardenas autodefensas established blockades in protest.  Not only in Michoacan but in other States such as Mexico and Tamaulipas.

Pricilla of Grillonautas, a trusted supporter of Dr Mireles, has been instrumental in jump starting a free Mireles campaign or #LiberenAMireles.

Dr. Mireles Wife Speaks out for Mireles
Ana Valencia Mireles appeared in a march for the Liberation of Dr. Mireles.  The march concluded at city hall of Tepalcatepec where she spoke.

"Mireles is not a murderer, nor a drug trafficker, he is a hero who freed Tepalcatepec, the Tierra Caliente and the Michoacán coast of  crime."

She thanks the people protesting Mireles' arrest, the people of  Coalcoman, Chinicuila, Aquila, Caleta de Campos, Tierra Caliente and everywhere in Mexico and abroad who are supporting him.

The crowd cheered at her every word but even more loudly when she stated "the government has committed the biggest mistake in his arrest."  Protesters cheered shouted Mireles repudiation slogans against the federal government, Peña Nieto and Alfredo Castillo, Commissioner for the safety of Michoacán.

Mr. Nieto might be a puppet who has been made and instructed what to do, but what about Mexicos last few Presidents? Think about it... A vigilante can be looked at both ways and unfortunately he choose to not side with the Mexican Government from which now he is in prison. Best of luck to Dr. Mireles and I hope you stay quiet if interviewed as it is an on going case... Anything you say or do can be held against you...

In many cases it is their only option to work. Tere is no welfare system here.

United states sees mexico and the rest of central and south america as its back yard. Uncle Sam has a lot to do with their situation. Calderon didn't start the war on his own. They gave him millions and millions to fight this useless war. Don't blame the people that get caught in the middle.

It all starts with talk and idea. I am glad these people are here to talk about it. Most here are not anti Mexican I believe. But rather anti corruption in government, and for Mexican people to not fear for their lives. They are not moving to areas like Detroit to live in fear as an Example. It is like Detroit spreading to every town in the USA, and with the backing of the government. The criminals are moving to their towns and doing inexplicable atrocities. .

  46. They put a cover over his head, unlike the Narco's they captured. They take him in and probably have already tortured him. Unlike the Narco kingpins. They send the Narco kingpins to a prison with all the amenities of a nice hotel. With a great menu of food. No food, no medicine for Dr. Mireles and no attorney counsel. You would think he was a Narco, as that how they should be treated or worse. Just amazing!

  47. I am worried about Dr M. 30 people show up and they won't let them in? The Human Rights Commission shows up and they won't let them in?

I'm sorry, but the only possible explanations I can think of is that

    1) he's been tortured and they don't want anyone to see or

    2) he's dead.

    Lord, be with Mireles.

  48. Re: By the way I looked at the SWJ article and found in flat. Perfect syntax, as expected by so called think tankers, but shallow. look at their sources, New York Times, PLEEEEEEZE.

Actually, there were 23 notes or references cited (or sources, as this poster called them). NYT was but one of them. My reason for bringing the article forward, was to suggest to some here (who think not buying a particular brand of beer is going accomplish anything) that the situation in Michoacán has (perhaps) been carefully orchestrated, a demonstration by the EPN administration to foreign investors (businesses), that they (the EPN administration) are firmly in charge.

Totally, unrelated (or maybe not) is the idea that all Mexico will rise to thoughts of revolution. Some here might find it surprising that few Mexicans know anything of Dr. Mireles, autodefensas or more sadly, Michoacán - especially the youth. How do I know? I've taught school in Chiapas and Veracruz for more than 9 years. If something hasn't been 'shared' to them on Facebook or Twitter, it likely won't get attention. As for my educated and professional friends and colleagues taking up a political cause? It's probably not anything they'll want to concern themselves with (openly). It's just 'better' that they don't. To do otherwise, could get you fired, ratted out, or ... worse.

One last note (and perhaps it's related) ... back in Canada at the moment... I'm happy to report one lime cost me 69 cents this week. A month ago one cost 99 cents. How much of that did the farmer make?

    Thanks for letting me rant.

  57. A leader like Dr. Mireles only comes around once in a generation. Just like Luis Donaldo Colosio. These men were true/are true patriots whose love for their nation, when I mean nation I mean the people, moves them to begin to work to create a new nation. Men like Dr. Mireles can't be bought by the almighty Dollar/Euro/Pound. They are moved by the struggle of the common person who yearns for security, education, land, and bread for themselves and their families. Believe me when I say this, the govt. of Mexico would have preferred that Dr. Mireles resisted his arrest and given them the opportunity to eliminate the problem of Dr. Mireles. Be assured of this though, the attempts at the Dr.'s life will continue.
