Artistas Asesinos leader arrested in murders of two Juárez lawyers

Borderland Beat
A reputed gang leader is accused of ordering the killing of two prominent Juárez lawyers in May, the Chihuahua state attorney's office said.

State investigators arrested William Alfonso Fonseca Reyes, 29, alias "El Chicano," during the weekend in connection with the deaths of lawyers Salvador Urbina Quiroz and Cesar Cordero Gutierrez.

The lawyers were shot to death on May 26 inside Urbina's law office in Juárez.

Prosecutors alleged Fonseca leads a crew of the Artistas Asesinos, a gang known as the Double A that is allied with the Sinaloa drug cartel.

The state attorney general's office released photos of Fonseca shirtless with several tattoos, including an "A" on the front of each shoulder.

A Facebook page in Fonseca's name has photos of him holding guns as well as family photos.

In 2008, Fonseca was among seven inmates who were transferred in a Mexican army operation from the Juárez Cereso prison to the state prison because they were allegedly planning a riot, according to Mexican news archives.

The Norte newspaper reported Urbina was targeted because of his defense work in an unspecified federal case.

Fonseca, who is originally from the Mexico City area, said he was simply a baker and not involved in criminal activity, according to the Norte.

Urbina, 52, was a former president of the Juárez Lawyers' Association, a former deputy director of the Cereso prison in Juárez and had several high-profile cases.

Shortly after the killings, authorities released a security camera video showing two suspected killers at Urbina's office.

The video shows the men standing in the doorway before one of them takes out a handgun and enters while the second man continues to stand by the door.

On May 29, state police arrested one of the suspected shooter, Oscar Adrian Martinez Martinez, 25, aka "El Batres."

"Following the arrest of 'El Batres' valuable information was obtained, a motive was established and the mastermind behind the double homicide was identified," the attorney general's office said in a news release.

The second man involved in the shooting has not been arrested.

How do you know the diff between a CDG, CDS, BLO, Z, LFM. You see where I'm getting at. If anyone's knows share the knowledge.

  3. Mexico needs a death penalty, no reason these scumbags get out of jail to continue the violence.

    2. The reason there is no death penalty in mexico is because alot of innocent people would die. Remember, the laws are there to benefit the currupt people in mex like the president to congress.

  6. I'm curious about the exact motive, supposedly tied to Urbina's work defending a suspect in a federal case.

Urbina's former position as deputy director of the Cereso prison in Juárez appears to be a more likely motive.

Like the case of the US consulate workers who were killed, the real story is elusive.

Just because CDS are not as active in Juarez as they were it doesn't mean the the Juarez cartel have got control. They are not big like CDS (who are still big sorry but it's just the truth) and Zetas. Most Aztecas are in prison now however they are still active along with Juarez cartel but they are nothing like they were 2 decades ago. They don't run Juarez, nobody does.

  8. 3:47 yeah, mon, they criminals should at least look like brad pit in his youth and dress real dandy, otherwise how can you throw your panties to them?
local thugs can not display their municipal approved franchise papers, but they are no better, as police puppets they do chew on the population too for all the money they can, cd juarez lost, and loses and loses, if there is one single criminal left around, it is time to make Villa Ahumada ahumada for reals, and burn all these motherfuckers for good there, and that is only because i can't go and have some tacos al pastor, de buche, machitos, tripas, de higado encebollado, or pollito millonario, no more party on juarez ave, no more plaza de los lamentos...
--cd juarez police, federal, state and municipal, and US letras from el paso fucked it all up for reals, not some miserly gangbangers who are left with not even a peso for the maruchan after the extortion...

  9. hahahaha ..all you people saying that no one runs juarez, its not tijuana, there is one group in charge of juarez and its la linea...brazo armado,aztecas...you all said that aztecas are not like they were 2 decades ago...are you a true idiot or what!!! Aztecas have only gotten stronger anbd better in everything they do...Better de sonresearch,Aztecas are a leap away from becoming thier own cartel, but still remain loyal to the Carrillos... all aztecas are locke up,WRONG! just on the streets of juarez there are over 5000 members! jsut in juarez, not to mention other parts of chihuahua and dont get me started with the states...Point is...chaqpo ,cds didnt do anything but TRY to take the plaza from la linea, but FAILED. just like when cds tried to take the plaza from zetas in nuevo laredo in 2000 and,FAILED...just like when cds tried to take plaza from zetas all over mexico, and FAILED...without goverment help, cds are a bunch of cowrds, the facts speak for themselves, That greedy bastard chapo started soooo much war in mexico,so many innocent died, for what!? cds can barely defend Culiacan! and what did chapo get for all this!!! 10. There is no difference between these groups. Whoever gives them the biggest scraps get their loyalty for a minute. The poverty in Mexico has destroyed a generation. There are neighbors throughout Mexico where are the males over 30 years old have been exterminated. The battle cry of " live like a king for a day rather than a life time of poverty", gets them in. The reality is they remain peasants in a narco fosa. Please wake up people.... Drugs=death

    1. There has always been poverty, it's just now the real men are few and far between! It's called hard work and perseverance! Something these fun king coward cartels don't know anything about! Real men get up early in the morning and find work these lazy as Fucks just want easy money at the expense of their fellow country men! All my family has always worked hard to survive and it hasn't always been easy, but I have more respect honest hard working peasants than fake ass fools that pretend to be something they are not!

  14. Look I'm from el chuco and I have friends and family in El Paso Juarez and chihuas. I grew up in segundo barrio and I know a lot of people in the underworld here. From what I see and hear its the linea that runs Juarez . No one talks about the Juarez cartel anymore. Sinaloa still remains in Valle de juares and other smaller colonias on the outskirts of Juarez. As for chihuas the capital it's all linea and people that use to be with gente nueva that switched to linea. Aztecs are all over Juarez but all they do is run the local narco business . U don't even hear about the double a's. When state and federal support was pulled from Sinaloa theyve all been retreating and doin things on the down low or payin quota. Even most of Durango has sided with la linea. On the elpaso side the Aztecs are no longer powerful except in the old barrios like lower valley segundo and central. A lot of sureños came and i imagine they work with local sinaloa domestic dealers. Linea controls almost all trafficking locally here and las cruces while most sinaloa product goes up north. Remember people most people in El Paso have family in Juarez and there's a lot of bad blood from all the relatives killed. It's about pride and there is loyalty becus of blood relatives. I have never met anyone here that said they were with the sinaloans. Ever. To many eyes everywhere that all know someone or related to from Juarez. The killings continue but on the down low and most bodies are made to disappear and their almost always gente nueva. The state police are once again with la linea. And the federales don't care as long as la linea does their limpiadas without making waves. As true as ur gonna hear it here on borderland beat.

  15. el chapo worked for 12 years, for the FOX narco-democracia and for the FECAL narco-fascism, against the emergent forces of the PRI-ista narco-porfirismo, who used all the tricks in the minnie mandela book of revolutionary fervor delegated to the zetas. the true and tested hellrisers of el pri who did not give up until the pri heros of the battle for the reconquest of the presidency, the priista governors, installed atracomulco group member and priista ex-governor peña nieto, who now is using the tools and perks of federal power to impose his pax porfirista, the pri won, the narcs may still be able to keep killing each other, for the table scraps as usual...
--the police may not be all corrupt, only 10% found usually at the top, are needed to fuck it all for everybody else, including cd juarez, or chihuahua state, the other 90% police is to behave, produce from the mordida and shut the fuck up, or else; there is not enough table scraps for everybody to be corrupt...
--but it is all because of mexican as corrupt as inept government, politicians
used by inept mexican businessmen to make money for their US and their associates, canadian, indian, chinese, english, spanish...al the PIIGS cartel members trying to steal once again from mexico because their economies got fucked up in europe, through CORRUPTION from businessmen and politicians, in mexico once again it is indians vs indians for all the goods...
--all the blessings of corruption come from above, not from the narcs down here, or from juarez grameros or zeta maruchaneros, as evil as they are, they do what they have to do...
--the powerful up there did not have any need, especialy all the US and global puppetmasters, they already owned everything, and did not need the human sacrifices, OR DID THEY?
