Acuña: Violence Erupts 5 Dead While Strange Manta Appears

by  Chivis Martinez Borderland Beat
update and correction of manta text

Violence erupted in the city of Acuña, Coahuila yesterday.  People near the scene report  the shootout that began at 5:15 AM soldiers were clashing with organized crime gunmen.  Ciudad Acuña lies back to back with the Texas border city of Del Rio.
In the early morning hours a military convoy was patrolling the southern outskirt of the city, when a white Dodge Durango carrying armed gunmen was spotted by soldiers.  Attempts to pull over the Durango failed ensuing in a chase through the San Antonio Colonia and ending at Lazaro Cardenas.
The gunmen then initiated a shootout which commenced at the intersections of 20 of November and Alvaro Obregon streets and continued for 90 minutes.
Five were killed in the shootout and one injured, four gunmen died at the scene a fifth subsequently died of his injuries at the IMSS hospital in Acuña.
Acuña was the scene of  the  Lalo Moreira  murder in October, 2012.  Lalo is the son of former Coahuila Governor and National PRI party chairman, Humberto Moreira.
One soldier was seriously injured in the conflict and was transferred to the larger city of Piedras Negras via helicopter.  Piedras Negras is 80 miles east and is adjacent to Eagle Pass Texas.
Los Zetas cartel are in control of the Ciudad Acuña plaza.

Meanwhile, also in Acuna, a perplexing and ominous manta (banner) appeared on the pedestrian bridge of Emilio Mendoza Cisneros which directed to a "Jesus" secretary of public safety.
Strange is why the manta, which address Zacatecas issues, were hanged in Acuna.  I was able to get a clear view of the text and the Jesus referred to in the manta is secretary Jesus Pinto Ortiz.

The banner includes the photographs of three unidentified people, but one I have identified as the secretary.  I have placed notes in quotation marks to try and give clarity to the confusing text.  (Pinto Ortiz is in the photo below)
The message reads:
“You took the war to Zacatecas [ I believe this refers to the City of Zacatecas].  [but]The war was against the State,[ now referring to the state].
You brag about being the one who decides the direction of  the war and took it to  Zacatecas. lying and supporting golfos of the State, because they declared it themselves and there is proof about it; we’ll see how you answer the citizens for the consequences; deputy, afterwards don’t ask about why we don’t rob or kidnap, we have rules and we work in our thing [meaning drug trafficking etc but not kidnapping or rob].
The photos are of the people guilty of stealing and kidnapping. (other mantas say the photos are managers/whores you have chosen)

Attentively, The Letter”

Thank you to TexPat and friends in Acuña
and Texcoco for new photos

  1. Thanks for the post Chivis. Figured it was just a matter of time till Acuna became more like Piedras with the shoot outs. Hope not, but time will tell.

  2. I hope not either. sorry for the delay, I was waiting for fotos yesterday and then was not able to get back to the post :(

Acuña has experienced heighten violence since last summer. The problem is that little of it is reported in the media. If national publications get the story than it is.

I have told the story that illustrates this. When Lalo was murdered, 4 men were killed and thrown into Rio Bravo/Grande, one survived by playing dead and managed to get to the Del Rio side where BP picked him up and took him to the hospital.

Nothing was ever mentioned in the Mexican press, and a small reference to it within another article was in the DR Herald. That is how it is.

If not for friends and a reader Named TexPat I would not know what is REALLY going on there. The regional media, municipal police and municipal government are all sleeping with the enemy.....Paz, Chivis

  6. i was going to acuna today or tommorow fuck that ill just stay here in san antonio until it cools down. I dont want to mess with the solados they proably have every thing lock down

    ReplyDelete
  7. So what is going on? Is CDG moving in on the plaza? Who is putting up the narcomantas? That last one was really confusing.

    ReplyDelete
  8. very interesting article.....keep it up Chivis.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Yes, it is police, government and military operating as one. When "outsiders" arrive, they often let their guard down and end up dead. So, tell us something more.

    ReplyDelete
  10. zetas are, still trying to stay in acuna but cdg is now here

    ReplyDelete
  11. Zetas have controlled the plaza since the split. Chapos have been lurking for months and making a play for the plaza for years, on and off. CDG could not get it without help and Chapo wants it for himself.

I was able to make the foto much clearer to read the top lines better and made the correction and also have posted a photo of the Jesus.

At 2:46...is there any chance you have a photo of the mantas? or is it the ones I wrote about?

To San Antonio..I hate to say stay away because in large part it is safe but it has had sporadic violence that is becoming ongoing and less time in between. and when its bad, its very bad. So it is your call.

  12. @2:06P.M.
Chivis, I believe the Mexican press to be fearful, the DR Herald to be cautious about reporting only what can be verified, and even then erring on the side of caution as the former Mayor of Acuna was gunned down in his own driveway in Del Rio a few years back. As far as municipal police in Acuna, it was my understanding that they are no more after the military took over.
    @2:46P.M.
Anon. Please keep us posted on what you hear from your family. May they stay safe!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Zetas have the plaza and have had it since the split. True Chapos are present as I have been writing for months...ditto in PN.

About the shootout today, can you get more specific, like where in acuna and time?

I tried to make to mantas have some clarity and worked hard on the text, these mantas are brutal to translate. I had to go off the photo, but there are others in zaca zac, Alvarado and Cordoba similar but a bit different. I will try and get them up later.

I am not 100% on the meaning but still trying and it is still bizarre why they are in Acuna....

  14. Chivis you are a true patriot of Mexico. May God protect and guide you. We need more mexicans to stand and represent the best of what Mexicans are really like.

DR Herald has nothing to fear, but if they are that weak they can pass info to Houston, SA or wherever.

Same with the people of Mexico and Acuna. No more excuses, if you have info send it to BB. MANY main stream media sources read BB including the US government and republish or link to us. do a search in Wikipedia and see how many have used our info as resource, also authors like Grayson. We get many views, if you saw my top 20 for 2012 those 20, not including the notables I added,,,just the 20 had 1.6 Million views!

You seem very nice by your words, but Mexico must stop making excuses that they can't because fearing reprisal. This is anonymous and can be sent to any US media or BB reporting information....and be perfectly safe.

that is what citizens can do. no more excuses. Superman is not going to arrive in Mexico.

    1. Good morning Chivis. I am so awestruck by your post here, I had to comment. Every word showed your honesty, passion and true commitment to your country. BRAVO!! No words could be more true than yours about SUPERMAN. Anyone who does not see that, needs to confront their own fears and do whatever it takes to resolve it. I myself, had to do exactly the same thing and it is difficult but possible. My own country, Italy,is a lesson in "WHAT TO NOT DO." Superman still hasn't shown up. It breaks my heart daily for all the innocents involved in this WAR IN MEXICO. THERE STILL IS HOPE WITHIN ME THOUGH. With people like yourself and all those at BB, who work daily to educate all of us, to show us a way to help and inspire us into ACTION... THERE IS HOPE. May God bless and keep you Chivas safe, as well as all at BB. My heartfelt thanks, Texas Grandma. :)

  19. Good article Buela, as always the way this people expressed themselves on narco banners is so confusing, and difficult to understand. Here I will leave my translation of the narco banner.

"Secretary Jesus Spotted Ass, the war was not against the state but you brag it is you the one who decide the direction of the war and you decided to take golfas to the state of Zacatecas (golfas have said that themselves and we have evidence of that) so now we will see what respond you will give to the public about the consequences!! DEPUTIES Later on not ask Why things are happening? We don't steal nor kidnap We have rules and we are dedicated only to our business. The photos are from those responsible for the theft, stealing and kidnapping with support from Jesús Pinto Ortiz Secretary of Public Safety. ATTE the letter. "

You silly immature poster. If a question is asked of me and I don't know I will not post an answer, if I do, and I am sure I will post, if I think it is correct but not completely sure I will say just that.

You don't know me, you don't know who I know, and you don't know what I have witnessed first hand. I will say I was in Acuña the last time Chapos were there. Then CDG was sent to watch and feed info back. CDG is very stupid and with their infighting they are doomed, but chapo is very smart he saw benefit...100% for him in an alliance with CDG to have them conduct his low level work in NE Mex.

at the end of the day, Chapo will break with them when he no longer needs them. Chapos have been in PN and Acuna for at least 7 months.

People can believe YOU or they can believe ME. It is their choice.

When I get info from people on the ground, I collaborate and verify before passing it on. For example Isidro living in Mty. I was not believing that in the beginning and asked for additional info and got it. I posted it on Jan 20. The next day Proceso wrote about it as fact, and yesterday so to did Insight Crime.

With me there is a history of writing and I have been seldom wrong, could I be wrong here? Sure, a part of me still has doubts about isidro in mty....as for chapos thugs,
    there is no doubt.

  39. so,I have a few questions for some of you people in mexico: is the narco trade the #1 employer in mexico right now? i mean, since they are diversifying into other areas of the black markets, i guess that would need a large work force. if you are brought into the fold of a cartel, are you automatically made to do some dirt to use against you as leverage, to coerce you into proving your loyalty, or is that just a myth.. also people of mexico. I have been reading about some small groups of U.S forces in some capacity with your police or marines, get some pictures of that shit!!!...

  50. @1048 HA! Holy shit I didn't realize non psychopathic types went around ranting and raving, wishing evil on others... I thank you for those evil wishes and I truly appreciate them; I have been through worse. Maybe you got so excited when you read my post that you don't realize I was referring to the fact that Miguel Angel Felix Gallardo devised a plan that, had it been followed, Mexico would still be a peaceful place, albeit a narco state, peaceful, which for me and my family's sake, and millions of other mexicans, would be something positive. I wont explain how this ties into the article, or how the complete eradication of mexican narcotics trade is damn near impossible, as I do not care to waste my time with you further. I hope you realize that el PRI, for the better part of a century, helped Mexico achieve narco state status. Again, not my fault. I do however, find it fascinating. Dope flows from Mexico into the veins of the US, that is a fact. I simply made a statement; cheerleading goes more along the lines of "Aqui rifa el chapo, putos!" Or "Zetas controlando cabrones, salganle al toro!" Shit like that. I didn't say that you silly, silly person. Not all of us here are stupid fucks, incapabale of replying. I'm entitled to my opinion, as are you. My opinion is that you are the most naive, ignorant grandma I have ever come across. 99.9% of grandma's are wise beyond decades, and of sage status. You however are an exception to this stereotype; go jump down someone else's throat.

  62. Wow i ran into this site on accident. But u ppl no matter what side u r on or acting like u r on- this shit is bad i am in the middle of usa in kansas. Everybody involved is a human bein and sergio was the son of an innocent woman and brother of a little girl and daddy of innocent little kids who only identified him by a tatoo because he was brutally killed by the feds in this incident. Not saying he was innocent but he was human and loved by people who are suffering right now. He was brought to ks illegally when he was a very small child and was raised well this wss all he knew until he was deported a couple yts ago. His family is all still hete in ks snd he was thrown back to mexico alone even tho it wasnt his fault he was illegal. He got caught up and made very bad decisions and look what happened.. he paid with his life. I hope u take a min to think about all the trash talk and know there are innocent victims connected to every tragedy. And maybe one wanna be drug lord or zeta or azteca will realize its not worth all this pain and turn themself around before its too late to turn back
