Wounded U.S. Officials Leave Mexico without Giving Statements

Two U.S. officials wounded last week when assailants thought to be Mexican federal police opened fire on their vehicle have left the country without giving statements to investigators, Mexico’s attorney general said.

“They must first be in the appropriate conditions to be able to do it. It will be done at the right time, once they are in shape for it,” Marisela Morales told reporters, adding that the U.S. government is fully cooperating with the probe.

The safety and health of the two men is the primary consideration, she said.

Neither the U.S. or Mexican government has provided any details about the wounded Americans, but The New York Times reported that both men are CIA officers.

Though 12 federal cops are being held in connection with last Friday’s incident in the central state of Morelos, the Mexican attorney general said she would not discuss possible suspects “so as not to obstruct the investigation.”

“It will be with scientific evidence that we will solve this very sensitive case,” she said.

Morales also declined to comment on the U.S. government’s description of the events as an ambush, saying only that “there are various lines of investigation.”

Federal police were engaged in anti-crime operations at the time of the assault on the U.S. Embassy vehicle, a Toyota SUV with diplomatic plates, the Mexican government said last Friday in a statement.

The Americans and a Mexican navy official were traveling on a stretch of unpaved road en route to a navy installation at El Capulin mountain when they encountered “a vehicle whose occupants brandished guns,” the statement said.

The driver of the Toyota “maneuvered to get away and re-enter the highway, the moment in which the occupants of the aggressor vehicle opened fire on the diplomatic vehicle.”

Soon, according to the statement, “three other vehicles joined the pursuit and fired gunshots at the U.S. Embassy vehicle.”

  3. N----

These where probably some CIA crooks sent to manage there cartel friends. THE CARTELS AND THE CIA BOTH LOVE THE WAR ON DRUGS! Why does our government have the same views on such an important aspect of American life. DECRIMINALIZE DRUGS AND QUIT WITH THE BULLSHIT WAR ON DRUGS THAT IS UNFAIR TOWARDS MINORITIES. Ron Paul was our last hope, and there is no point arguing that because it is a FACT.

  11. @ 3:01 ...if they are CIA,I doubt America is ignoring what's going on in Mexico, the CIA took point on the bin laden mission, maybe they are laying the ground work for something similar, the cartels are responsible for more deaths and have a bigger reach than bin laden every did...

    1. Goood point. Perhaps they are laying intelligence for the capture of some big fish. Most likely that big fish got bothered and gave them an answer, eitherway bad move. I have no doubt uncle sam is going to unleash a big clandestine operation in mx within the next months.

  13. The CIA are the largest drug smugglers in the world only rivaled by British intelligence who have been cashing in since selling opium from India to the Chinese. They are not there to stop it, only to stop competition. Do some research.

  14. Did you guys know there is 55 CIA operating bases through out Mexico ,the agents which were injured apparently entered Mexico through Afghanistan with fake documents.
People don't want.to accept the truth ,but.American foreign policy with covert operations is fucking up countris ,and all we can say is well .....we went there.and helped ,and even if we.didn't it was already bad.

    1. Yeah, fake documents and fake mustaches. Wouldn't it be easier to just blend in with the American and European tourists or business persons? Hispanic agents could blend in as being from other Latin nations. Yes, a perfect disguise filtered through travel from the middle east. Top off all of the cloak and dagger with some diplomatic plates just like the thousands of U.S. diplomatic staff that are in Mexico.

  15. We (The good ole U.S.A.) need to invade Mexico just as we have done to Iraq, install a civilized government and teach them how to live like civilized human beings so they can then manage their own country!

  17. The Zetas were trained by the US at the former (now renamed) School of the Americas at Fort Benning Georgia where the US has been training killers since the 50's. It is where they trained the death squads of South America which were used to eliminate rival politicians. The drug dealers in Mexico who refuse to launder their money through the appropriate Banks (Wells Fargo is one) and pay the real bosses (US intelligence) get a visit from the Zetas. If Chapo or any other so called big guy didn't make his payments he would be gone a very short time.

  18. CHIVIS!!

Off the topic, are there any news about the supposed chapo's son that was detained. We know it wasn't him, has he been released? I can't find anything on the net.

  21. There is so much anti-gringo paranoia in Mexico. Mexican media and politicians have used Mexican soberania and "blame the gringos" for decades as an excuse to ignore most every other problem. They are completely unable to see any situation from any point of view but their own. "The gringos are coming the gringos are coming...

Never mind that half the population of Mexico is starving and countless gringos volunteer to take tons of food, build housing, support the poor and homeless, etc.

What about the 12 million+ Mexican immigrants that have come to the US and DEMANDED jobs, housing, medical, food stamps, education based on "humanitarian grounds". What does Mexico offer white immigrants from the US? A hard way to go - and if you want anything done for any reason - pay a bribe - and expect to be ripped off anyway.

With all the important, life-and-death issues facing Mexico today La Jornada prints an inflammatory, xenophobic, anti-American article to stir everybody up about the imminent gringo invasion. Talk about yellow journalism.

I say pull every US citizen out of Mexico, block further US investment in Mexico and put the military on the border. Let Mexico stew in her own juices.

  22. Learn what from Iraqi & Mexocan (sic) civilizations? When were they at their zenith? Do you have any factual information to offer? No? just want to hurl racist names and insults?

Let's compare. What schools have you attended and what degrees have you earned? Me-Univ of the Americas, Puebla, Puebla B.A., Spanish Lang & Lit., UNAM, Masters, Linguistics

The ball is in your court. What's your forte?

  23. They fail to mention that the CIA officers came up on a Mexican Federal Police checkpoint and the CIA driver in a very stupid move put the car in reverse and sped off. This was a major blunder. The federal police thinking that they were drug traffickers and possibly transporting drugs gave chase. Now the rules of engagement in Mexico are very different than those in the U.S. and the police began to fire at the vehicle that refused to stop. With the chase on, they were not about to notice the diplomatic tags. This move by the CIA officers shows that they should not be in the field.

  24. THIS IS THE START OF MORE THINGS TO COME. WE HAVE ESTABLISH AN OUT POST AT ONE OF THE MILITARY BASES. AS MENTIONED ABOUT FOUR MONTHS AGO , WE SEE YOU, WE HEAR YOU AND WE KNOW WHERE YOU ARE AT. YOU R FREE UNTIL WE SAY SO.

  25. Funny how people dont remember the meeting with Hillary Clinton and the Calderon officials just two weeks ago. It was reported the US had given the Mexican Military and Calderon goverment the exact location were El Chapo was at least 7 times and they did not get him. The CIA has a large footprint in Mexico now going on 5 years. Clinton said that since the Calderon goverment has not taken there information and arrested El Chapo they will wait for the next adminstraiton and offer them the same deal. Let Navy Seal team dress up in Federal uniforms and go get them themselves. But because of all the bull$hit sovereign laws even though he is wanted in the US Mexico will not allow or have been paid off by EL Chapo. The drug cartel leaderships will all fall if they let the CIA do there job and send in the appropriate service men to get them why does Mexico not want to clean up there county is the question.
