Was Chapo Sending a Message by the N. Laredo Car Bomb?

by Chivis Martinez for Borderland Beat

UPDATE:
At news conference Monday authorities denied the presence of an armed group representing El Chapo in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas.
The local prosecutor said no evidence to suggest that in Nuevo Laredo there is a waging of a "War of Cartels”  as officials said there is no evidence of the presence of an armed group representing the Sinaloa cartel.
The press conference was attended by the mayor, Benjamin Galvan Gomez DEM Colonel Carlos Seanez Lemon, head of the Safety Program Tamaulipas, in charge of the Office of the Public Security Secretariat, Alfonso Olvera Ledezma, the Director of the Municipal Police Roberto Garza Balmori, the Agents of the State Public Ministry, Victor Hernandez and Ricardo Almanza Mancillas Castillo.
It was the slaughter of 14 persons attributed to the Sinaloa Cartel with a Narco Manta signed by El Chapo, that prompted the news conference.
In related news 7 of the 14 have now been identified and of those 7 there has not been a link found to organized crime or an arrest history of any of the victims.  This finding gives credence to the theory that more commonly cartels are using innocent persons as props in mass displays of violence.
Subsequently, this morning at 8:00 AM . A car bomb exploded outside the headquarters of the attorney general of Tamaulipas.  Also housed in the building are the offices of the State Police Agencies and other police agencies.
“At the facilities of the Municipal Public Safety Building in the city of Nuevo Laredo, detonated an explosive device  that was inside a van," the state attorney general's office said in a statement.
Some Mexican news reports are attributing the car bomb as the work of Chapo in response to the news conference of yesterday.
The attack caused minor injuries to civilians and damage to the facilities of that unit and another vehicle in addition to the van used in the attack, which was burned, stated the attorney general.
The outbreak, which resulted in police and military mobilization, occurred during the morning after several confrontations and blockades of various parts of the city by criminals, which led to the municipal authorities to warn people using social media to move about the city with caution.

  5. They will catch either chapo or z40 by the end of this year. If pablo eacobar, saddam hussein , osama bin laden, ghaddafi cant hide, then that means these fools cannot either. The clock is ticking and the walls are closing in on these guys. They will either end up dead in their own turf or end up in a REAL prison here in USA!

  8. No ties to organized crime.

So what does that show the supporters of 'El Chapo?'

Not so heroic or brave killing 'zetas', but just as filthy as those you claim to hate

  11. What nonsense about the 7 of the 14. Almost everyone in Mexico has a link to the cartels and the drug traffic whether they have been arrested or not. Total BS!

    2. Anyone remembers when this police chief Garza Balmori or his brother and a woman was arrested years ago with about 2 million dollars in cash in Laredo, Texas? Posted bond and never showed up for court?

  12. 5:20am...your comment is total crap! 113 million people in Mexico and you don't think 7 people can exist without cartel ties? You're small minded.

  13. Dude. Please. That's not a "car bomb." Take a careful look at the body of the vehicle. It is all fire damage with no real evidence of blast damage. To my eye it looks like an incendiary device or maybe an incendiary device actuated by a small explosive charge. Either way, it is certainly not a VBIED.

  14. To the person questioning the 7 of 14 not having ties. Mexico has nothing to gain by declaring this, in fact the opposite is true. If you lived in Mx you would know this using props (innocents) in mass displays is common. It is much easier to have municipal police round up a dozen people for slaughter. Beleive what you wish. Two other eamples was the veracruz 35 and the Bloggers which only 1 of the 4 killed was a blogger. if you read the narco message with Nena it refers to people not believing the first 2....

IBIED? I questioned the same, but this is the official word and Mx has been reluctant to say Car bomb...I went with the info that was given.

That's just as crazy as not wanting him to be caught, because then he can finish off the Zetas.

  17. I said it before, innocent people are slaughtered by the cartels all the time! I'm not surprised at all that 7 out of the 14 victims were found not have any criminal records or ties to any DTO! Think about it..everytime a DTO puts up a mass murder scene of alledged rivals, the targeted DTO counters with one of their own..only days later! Innocent people are used because they are readily available and they suit the DTO's purpose. Chapo and his people are full of shit..the reality is one DTO is trying to take the plaza from another DTO. The mass murder scenes and car bombing is nothing more than narco propaganda!

  18. The problem from my perspective is that chicken little has been running all over the media crying "car bombs in Mexico" and we've seen *maybe* one car bomb there. Everything else has been small devices hidden in or under cars.

See this link for a discussion of car bombs vs. bombs in cars: http://www.stratfor.com/weekly/20110413-perceived-car-bomb-threat-mexico

  19. .
How about this for a theory:

    - The Zetas did the killing
    - they put up big Narco Message Posters(narco Mantas) for all to see and they sign Chapo's name as the author of the killings
    - Chapo gets the A VERY Bad Name when investigators release some of their 'findings' and state that thus far, 7 of the murdered people / victims were not connected to organized crime nor did they have any arrest history

¿ How many more Narco Messages with Chapo's name as author have been FORGED by ... the competition (Zetas for example who have recently stated that they will be running a parallel government along with the newly elected government) ?

For the record, I'm no fan of any cartel and never will be. And I'm against criminals trying, for their own gains, to hijack Mexico
    .

  20. bullshit, more and more propaganda being released. Chapo only hurts himself leaving mantas and declaring that this is his work. Out of chaos comes order, we are almost to the point where the US intervenes. It will get much worse in the coming months.

  21. It IS blasted by bomb. You can see it shape of bed of that truck. Not very big bomb though.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The story gets more mainstream attention if its reported as a VBIED instead of what it really looks like a GRENADE Attack. People hear a boom and then see the wreckage and automatically its a car bomb....NOT

    ReplyDelete
  23. Just like the homegrown terrorist in the USA, Timothy Mcveigh, Terry Nichols, Ted Kaczynski,Eric Rudolph, all the wacko kids who shoot up schools... list goes on and on.

  24. This is typical Chapo. Send some losers in to heat up the plaza. He just did it in the bar in Chihuahua killing more that 10 innocent people and did it 6 weeks ago in Chihuahua killing about the same number in another bar. They are not cartel players, they are common people. They are easy to kill, they have no weapons. Those who think El Chapo is some hero need to look back through time and see how he really works. It was pretty clear when the Matazetas killed the 30 innocent people and it turned out that were school teachers and shit. All innocent and the Matazetas were lol the new power arm of Chapo to get rid of the Zetas. The car bomb is easy too. If the attacks are directed at state and local police, it is an outside cartel, not the local. If it is directed at the military and feds, it is a local cartel fighting back. Trust me, Chapo is more of a baby killer than the Zetas. He will do this BS and run as usual. The Chapo cheerleaders need to know who they really are worshiping. Chapo is acting desperate right now. What is really up?

  25. Some said it was a granade. I doubt it was cds if z got laredo as they say. I think z did this and put it on chapi. And the 14 bodies if the laredo police say they were innocent, I doubt it z control e en the mayor, he will say that they got pickedup at church and that criminals don't exist in laredo.

  26. Said it all along on here, that manta was bullshit. Why would Guzman all of a sudden, start courting publicity? This is CDG shit. The manta, the dismembering, looks like CDG.And where is the evidence that Z are leaving?Man,nothing of huge note has happened, only a manta, stating something.
That is why it has garnered so much publicity, the Chapo angle, and every other group know it.Has this heated the square?

  27. Innocents? There are no innocents in Mexico. That's the heart of the problem. Everyone is involved in drug trafficking or its spinoff industries or even if involved in "legitimate" business, they're paying protection money etc. The whole country is corrupt top to bottom and devoid of any institutions which are not in the hands of a cartel. It wouldn't surprise me if Mexican soccer teams are in the pay of one cartel or another.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Over the years it had become clear that none of the cartels are great bomb builders, whatever kind or grade.

@ 10:01 and 4:27 : ITA there is no good cartel or chapo. They are all equally inhuman and have hurt/killed many innocent people. I don't know anyone in Nvo Laredo or anywhere along the border who has not somewhere in his/her circle a dead or missing person and none of them was involved in narco activity. Something I rarely see mentioned here but do you have any idea how many medical doctors are being threatened, extorted and kidnapped/killed? Even dentists and veterinarians are for many reason targets nowadays.
The only way Mexico can be a "normal" society again is if all cartels are gone, including all chapos and cheerleaders. Because the complacency of those cheering have permitted this cancer to grow this lethal.

  29. It was in the news conference of Monday regarding the 7 of 14. All the state police and federal reps were there. The state also announced they would pay for the bodies to be transported & burial costs. Those of you that are doubters are ignorant of what exists in Mx. which is why we volunteers spend countless hours giving information to educate and inform.

I stick to facts not gossip, which is why I did not jump on the ban wagon of BDN, Mundo and Historias (same people) by reporting about the Manta supposedly found

Municipalities are 100% corrupt, from city hall, police and media all work under the direction of a cartel. In Veracruz for example, many killed were seen being picked up by police and seen again dead among the cargo of human bodies thrown in the highway. The corrupt atty gen and gov reported in hours all the dead were criminals with criminal records...even before they were ID. Later the PGR and state PGR officially stated none of the dead had ties or ciminal history. Two had minor record and one was suspected of a serious crime, not narco, but was never tried.

Like lambs to slaughter, much easier to pick up people that are unarmed and respectful/fear authority than narcos equipped to fight. Not often you see 30 narcos hanging out ready to be taken.

It seems logical that for the government to be truthful and say the dead were innocents would be more difficult than if they are narcos, which people would celebrate.

I did not report all 14 had no criminal records I said SEVEN so far.

I am not sure it was chapo, but it would not surprise me if it were, I just do not have enough information to feel comfortable saying for sure it was.

  31. The 14 killed were mostly halcones or street drug dealers caught off guard working for the zetas and i dont why people act like they dont know that most halcones are arned only with cellphones and most dont have criminal records or warrants for there arrest they can't cuz they have to be out in public they gotta blend in with the people out on the street its not like there going to be holding ak 47's outside the bus station with the army passing threw

  32. Well, ir Z40 is a really good boy, and he even sings in the San Juan De Los Lagos choir, why is he hiding like the low life rat he is? He kill all that people, put up a narco banner and blame the Chapo, who is also a low life murderer. But the worst of Turkmenistan all is Benjamin Galvan Gomez and his friends and police for lying to the poeple.

    ReplyDelete
  33. So el chapo leaves About 3 narco mantas his hit men take a picture in Nuevo Laredo and they leave 14 dismembered bodies and the authorities still say that el chapo doesn't have any people in Nuevo Laredo

I think Los zetas told the media to say that and to also say that 7 out of the 14 were innocent to give chapo a bad image then el chapo ordered the car bomb to show people that he is working in Nuevo laredo

  34. When is the "tipping point", when the cartels can not be defeated and they have the upper hand over the Federal Government? Or has that point been crossed some time ago, such that no Mexican Federal Government can ever again gain the upper hand?

Boca del Rio,was the same,it makes gruesome sense,it is so much easier to pick people up who will not fight back with AKs than to try and get players who may shoot you. This just shows again how these mutts operate, innocent people are being picked up all the time and murdered. This is some shady shit goin on here,i doubt this is Guzman.
