Zetas respond to San Fernando banners.
Los Zetas responded to the banners hung in San Fernando, Tamaulipas earlier this month with a gruesome display of their own early Tuesday morning in the municipality of Ciudad Victoria, the state capitol of Tamaulipas.
The San Fernando banners, signed by a group of "concerned citizens", identified individual fugitive Zetas and urged citizens to denounce them to federal authorities.
In the early morning hours of Tuesday, 2 unidentified men were discovered hanging from a highway overpass in Ciudad Victoria. According to authorities both men had been savagely beaten and shot multiple times and appeared to be wrapped in dark plastic bags.
A "narco" banner was also hung from the overpass and contained the following message:
Estos son los que andan atentando contra la ciudadanía y poniendo mantas retando al gobierno con el nombre de nosotros los Z sepan todos que nosotros no somos terroristas y mucho menos, que no nos metemos con la población civil sálganle al toro y dejan de dar patadas de ahogado atte. Comando Z.
These are the ones attacking the citizenry and hanging banners challenging the government with our names, Los Zetas. Let it be known that we are not terrorists and we do not interfere with the civilian population. Come out and face the bull and stop kicking like your drowning.....Sincerely, Zeta commando
San Fernando is the site of the massacre of 72 Central and South American migrants in 2010, and where close to 200 mostly Mexican citizens were abducted from buses, murdered and buried in clandestine mass graves. Both incidents were blamed on local Los Zetas cells.
Alleged car bomb attack thwarted in Ciudad Victoria.
Early Tuesday morning the Tamaulipas state investigative police headquarters building and the immediate area surrounding it in Ciudad Victoria was the scene of an evacuation precipitated by fears of a car bomb attack.
The alert was raised when an older model sedan that had been parked overnight in front of the headquarters was visually inspected and found to have suspicious wiring in the interior.
The vehicle was surrounded with automobile tires to lessen damage in the area in case of an explosive detonation. A Marine bomb disposal unit was requested to inspect and disarm any explosive device that may be inside the vehicle.
Ther has been no further information on the incident and it is unknown if what turns out to be car bomb is related to the incident on the highway overpass.
Ciudad Victoria has been the scene of several car bomb explosions, in August 2010, March 2011, September 2011 during the Diez y Seis festivities and in mid December 2011.
