Milenio.com reported that the shootings started because the military captured "El Lazca's" right hand man, which apparently was in charge of the Z, in Tamps, NL, and coahila... And they started the shooting in an attempt to free him. They hadn't released the name of the captured for "safety reason"

The shootouts were the result of an operation carried out by the Mexican Government--Operation Scorpion--to capture 'La Rana,' the alleged leader of the Zetas of all of Northeast Mexico, including Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, and Tamaulipas. They were successful.
