Insider: CIA Orchestrated Operation Fast and Furious

Federal government allowed Mexican drug cartel to import tons of cocaine into United States

Washington Times journalists Robert Farago and Ralph Dixon cite a “CIA insider” to make the claim that Operation Fast and Furious was a Central Intelligence Agency-orchestrated program to arm the Sinaloa drug cartel, a group that was also given the green light to fly tons of cocaine into the United States.

“In congressional testimony, William Newell, former ATF special agent in charge of the Phoenix Field Division, testified that the Internal Revenue Service, Drug Enforcement Administration and Immigration and Customs Enforcement were “full partners” in Operation Fast and Furious. Mr. Newell’s list left out the most important player: the CIA. According to a CIA insider, the agency had a strong hand in creating, orchestrating and exploiting Operation Fast and Furious,” report Farago and Nixon.

The program, with its designated cover of tracking where guns went so drug lords who purchased them could later be arrested downstream, was actually a deliberate effort to prevent the Los Zetas drug cartel from staging a successful coup d’etat against the government of Felipe Calderon by arming rival gang Sinaloa, according to the Times writers, a relationship that extended to “(allowing) the Sinaloas to fly a 747 cargo plane packed with cocaine into American airspace – unmolested.”

“The CIA made sure the trade wasn’t one-way. It persuaded the ATF to create Operation Fast and Furious – a “no strings attached” variation of the agency’s previous firearms sting. By design, the ATF operation armed the Mexican government’s preferred cartel on the street level near the American border, where the Zetas are most active,” states the report.

The notion that Fast and Furious was used as a cover through which to arm the the Sinaloa cartel would explain why the feds showed little interest in following up where guns ended up once they left the United States.

The Obama administration and the ATF claim that the Fast and Furious program was part of a sting operation to catch leading Mexican drug runners, and yet it’s admitted that the government stopped tracking the firearms as soon as they reached the border, defeating the entire object of the mission.

It would also account for the fact that the federal government failed to prevent Sinaloa importing tons of cocaine into the U.S.

Back in April, Jesus Vicente Zambada Niebla, the “logistical coordinator” for the Sinaloa drug-trafficking gang that was responsible for purchasing the CIA torture jet that crashed with four tons on cocaine on board back in 2007 told the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in Chicago that he had been working as a U.S. government asset for years.

According to court transcripts, Niebla was allowed to import “multi-ton quantities of cocaine” into the U.S. as a result of his working relationship with the FBI, Homeland Security, the U.S. Department of Justice and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

But the notion that Fast and Furious was solely an effort to isolate the Los Zetas cartel isn’t consistent with the fact that one of the gang’s kingpins recently told Mexican federal police that the group purchased its weapons directly from U.S. government officials inside America.

“They are bought in the U.S. The buyers (on the U.S. side of the border) have said in the past that sometimes they would acquire them from the U.S. Government itself,” Rejón Aguilar told police.

As we reported years ago, former DEA agent Cele Castillo has blown the whistle on how the US government controls the Los Zetas drug smuggling gang and uses it as the front group for their narco-empire.

With the gang having first been trained at the infamous School of the Americas in Fort Benning, Georgia, Castillo affirms that Los Zetas are still working for the US government in protecting drug routes to keep the wheels of Wall Street well-oiled. Castillo has gone on the record to state that the commandos are working directly for the US government drug cartel in carrying out hits on rival drug smugglers who aren’t paying their cut.

Fast and Furious may have served a dual purpose for the Obama administration.

Some evidence indicates the program was a plot on behalf of the administration to discredit the second amendment. While the feds were selling guns to Mexican drug gangs, Obama was simultaneously blaming drug violence on the flow of guns from border states to Mexico.

Even after the revelations surrounding the program became public, the ATF cited the trafficking of guns to Mexico as justification for a new regulation that has led to ATF intimidation of both gun sellers and purchasers, a policy which arrived months after President Obama told gun control advocate Sarah Brady that his administration was working “under the radar” to sneak attack the second amendment.

During a March 30 meeting between Jim and Sarah Brady and White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, at which Obama “dropped in,” the president reportedly told Brady, “I just want you to know that we are working on it (gun control)….We have to go through a few processes, but under the radar.”

The quote appeared in an April 11 Washington Post story about Obama’s gun control czar Steve Croley.

  1. Very scary if that stuff about Obama working under the radar to attack the 2nd amendment is true. I can understand ideological differences, but covertly attacking the 2nd amendment speaks of ill intentions (to say the least).

  3. Lol I don't buy any of that "obama attacking the 2nd amendment" crap. The guy has so much on his plate, can't even get a handle on one thing, and I'm supposed to believe he's gonna try to repeal the 2nd amendment?

I don't believe this. I do believe the ATF is responsible.

  6. I don't trust the source and neither should anyone else. These guys bash everything to do with the government. Nothing but conspiracy theorists. Like the U.S. government could really control what's going on in Mexico. They can't even control their own agencies.

  7. You got it right Texcoco. Those fuckers couldn't coordinate a garden party. Plus, none of those US govt agencies ever work together on anything.

My favorite is the zetas work for the US govt to keep the cocaine flowing to keep the wheels of wall street well-oiled. What a load of shit. BB should title this mishmash "Conspiracy Theorists Gone Wild".

BB and ardent love conspiracy theories. The more outlandish the better.

  8. It's hardly a conspiracy theory to believe that the US government and its many policing and military departments often times engage in illegal activities themselves. It's REALITY.

It's really kind of like you guys are believing in the tooth fairy when many of you gullible Right Wingers, who are in bed and on board with the worst tendencies of the US government/ Pentagon and adore murder and mayhem in huge doses, act as if you and your government is all innocent and sweet like. You kid only yourselves, Officers.

'none of those US govt agencies ever work together on anything.'

Oh, Big Brother! When the US and its multiple agencies really want to screw others over, they coordinate damn well together in doing it. To think otherwise is totally naive and gullible.

  9. To all the people saying that this is not true, i ask you to look in to the history of the CIA and its relation to importing drugs, there is plenty of proof. There is proof that the US allowed Noriega to import drugs and protected him.

I bet if you all that dont believe this story, would have heard that CIA was protecting Noriega and his cocaine shipments back in 1980 you would not have believed it either.

  10. What a load of garbage. I do believe that the ATF was responsible for Fast and Furious and their general incompetence let the operation spiral out of control. Government is generally too dysfunctional to pull of a conspiracy. These dorks are probably inside jobbers as well, ha.

  11. Damn, we go from ATF, to DEA to CIA then on to Zambada, then to a Sinaloa partnership, then to US partnership with Zetas, then to US involvement in protection of drugs routes, then Wall Streets involvement, then Obama's involvement, then Obama wanting to strike the second amendment. All in a page and a half. The bad thing is, for those that read this, parts of it are probably true, but put all together, it makes you discredit it all. And I am one that believes the US is a defined player. Damn, that was weird.

you consider it "outlandish" that los zetas could be funded by some outside entity?...

  13. These "guys" bash "everything" that has to do with the government that is ILLEGAL. Unless you are a complete newbie to the way governments operate, there is PLENTY of government sponsored corruption out there that needs to be "bashed". Due to most people's ignorance of the Bill of Rights and Constitution in this country, they have been conditioned to accept any degree of criminality and tyranny they send their way and are taught that any opposition to these policies can only come from "conspiracy theorists". So, before you start labeling journalists that operate outside of the corporate controlled mainstream media, maybe you should take a look at their track record and the research they do that can back up their claims.

As far as the CIA (US govt) colluding with the cartels to bring in tons of narcotics into the US; this is nothing new. They collude with terrorists, gangsters and warlords all over the world to do where ever they have to do to accomplish their missions. How do you think they can smuggle tons of narcotics via the US/Mexico border every year and only the occasional lowly border patrol agent gets caught AND indited? How are billions of dollars of this drug money laundered through US banks every year, but only a couple of banks are caught every other year and NOBODY gets in trouble? 90% of the heroin in the world comes out of Afghanistan and who has been guarding those opium poppy fields making sure they flourish all of these years? Good lord people. Do your own research! You have several ex military, CIA, DEA and police whistle blowers that have come out in the last 20 to 30 years that can attest to this.

Look up Mena, Arkansas, where tons of drug was smuggled in the 80's via their tiny airport. Look up Cele Castillo, DEA whistle blower who witnessed his agencies drug smuggling activities in the 80's and later detailed them in a book. Look up Gary Webb, the journalist who exposed some these CIA activities in a series of articles and later in a book. Look up Mike Ruppert who was a LAPD narcotics officer in the late 70's when he was approach by the CIA to help funnel drug into the city. He later became a journalist/investigator and set out to expose these activities. Look up the findings of former FBI agent Ted Gunderson (RIP), who also uncovered the CIA's drug smuggling activities and more. That's just for starters. How is that for "outlandish"?

Oh and by the way, Obama is just an installed sock puppet, so yeah, he's not any kind of mastermind. He's just their spokesman.

  15. Here we go again..Some of you ignorant troll posters should have studied history instead of how to make meth in your basement. The truth is your so uneducated on the facts and history of the cia you idiots think they are some innocent sesame street character. Listen up, clean your ears out and research foryourself you lazy morons. The cia is as corrupt as any cartel ever known. You should know this..but you don't because you can't think for yourself. Here are some facts about the cia. They have used lsd on people without the people knowing which led to one man who thought he was going crazy commit suicide, they were involved in smuggling cocaine to fund covert operations, they have consistently worked to overthrow governments to put their puppets in charge (Iran, Pakistan,Panama,Iraq and many more). They have assasinated whoever they deem a " terrorist", Osama bin laden and. Saddam hussein were both trained and funded by the cia, they are behind illegal wiretaps and torture of american citizens( a judge just ruled last week that one of their victims can sue donald rumsfeld for giving the orders they carried out). They have fomented race wars and used psychological wafare againt U.S citizens and much more, Now instead of sticking your useless head in the sand, take the time to look for yourself for once. All of these things are completley documented. The cia IS behind this fast and furious arming of the cartels, If they have a long history of corruption that is fact, why would you think that they are as innocent as the girlscouts? The reason is because your a ptoduct of the american schools system...dumb. as a box of rocks with no common sense or ability to tjimk without the government telling you how..now go back downstairs and do what you do best.

I learned the hard way quoting something from Prison Planet as "gospel" (as they preached it,) and have heard others say they did the same thing, only to be laughed out of the room. Their premise is often not 100% wrong or they would have no credibility, but there will be some aspect twisted, a pertinent detail left out that makes the story essentially flawed and incorrect. One thing PP will always make the American government complicit with evil. That isn't always the case. Sometimes but not always.

Wow, great post. You've summed up my thoughts exactly. For a long time now I've had a suspicion the Zetas were funded by our u.s. gov. for the plain obvious fact that they were trained by our military and has been destabalizing whatever 'order' mexico has. The Zetas sounded all too similar to Alqaida, which was also created by the CIA and used repeatedly to destabalize middle eastern nations as well as Russia. Libya is another example. These supposed rebels trying to take 'their' country from Gaddafi are really Alqaida soldiers who fought and killed Americans in Iraq and Afghanistan. And we're supposed to believe that they are 'friendly' civilians?

  20. "Los Zetas are still working for the US government in protecting drug routes to keep the wheels of Wall Street well-oiled" Now that is one of the dumbest conspiracy theories I have ever heard. It's Bernanke, Obama and Congress the last 2 years that are greasing the wheels of Wall Street.

As to the CIA knowing about Fast and Furious, that is believable. Whether they had a hand in facilitating the operation is another matter.

What the quote alludes to is the Wells Fargo fiasco where they, along with other banks, were caught laundering money for the cartels for some time now. We're talking billions if not more. Basically what our so-called leaders decided to do was let them off the hook lest(in fear that)their shut downs would bring Wall Street crashing down. It is well known that DRUG MONEY is what's kept these failing banks from imploding. Now is that clear for ya?

  22. Most of u guys r just plain FUCKING retarded...

The US has and will always be involved in shady business....

The article CLEARLY states the US helped move guns and coke...

If u read about el Mayo's son...he clearly states that the US directly helped him...and its alleged it was the CIA and not the FBI and that's y there's no documented evidence.

And its easy 2 believe the CIA would help launder money because the banks were in desperate need of capital.

But in general the CIA is involved is the worst shit...they have been moving coke for like 30 years...

  23. i think los zetas are a tool of the new world order ..their job is to heat up the plaza and justify the increased police presence in Mexico, paving the way for a Mexican police state...i can't prove it ...it can't be dis proven...but one thing is sure ..there are a lot more police being trained to operate inside Mexico

  25. BB your leanings are clear. A couple of crackpot conspiracy theorists?! Prison Planet? Alex Jones?

    This is drug war news?

No, but this, and a few other recent articles, signal a shift in BB policy. You read the comments, saw the anti-US conspiracy fans increasing in number and started selecting more articles along those lines? Or you have believed it all along and now feel comfortable posting on BB? Or the regular BB editors are on summer vacation and the fill-in guys did their thing?

I used to read BB to get recent news about the drug war in Mexico. That's what BB said they restricted their articles to. No news about corruption or ordinary crime or disfunctional Mexican institutions, etc. - just drug war news. Presumably (and until lately) news backed with some reliable sources. Not anymore. Too bad.

  37. Well ardent I gave BB and you hell for not recognizing a documentary film about the dysfunctional, corrupt Mexican justice system and the role it plays in the drug war.

BB did not post my first attempt but did post my attack on you for not having seen the film yet claiming to know what is wrong in Mexico.

BB won't acknowledge the film because it doesn't relate to drug war NEWS. Yet they post unsubstantiated bs like this post. You responded by putting down the film as insignificant and unrelated to drug war problems.

Now you take issue with me for not seeing the big picture. What you really mean is the big picture as seen by ardent.

You are a hypocrite and BB has an inconsistent editorial policy at best. I don't expect BB to change anything for me. It's their blog and they do a super job 98% of the time but I am astonished when they post inflammatory articles sourced to "a CIA insider".
