Zetas scouting for El Salvador's weapons

AP

El Salvador's president says members of the Zetas drug cartel have gone on scouting missions to his country in an attempt to obtain weapons from corrupt police officers and soldiers.

President Mauricio Funes says there are a lot of weapons left over from El Salvador's 12-year civil war and that the flow of guns there is "shocking."

Funes said Tuesday after a meeting with Mexican President Felipe Calderon that the Zetas have not settled in El Salvador like they have done in Guatemala but said some local gangs are working for them.

Mexican drug cartels have been increasingly moving to Central America as Mexico cracks down on them.

Funes said there needs to be a regional approach to fighting drug cartels in Central America.

  3. Obama and Holder's Fast and Furious gun smuggling program is no longer pumping guns into Mexico so they are looking to replace that piece of their arsenal. Of course they still have sources within Mexico and Guatemala.

  4. I don't see how this is possible considering I just read a report that said they get 120% of their guns from the US

  5. 120%??? You think they can honestly keep a tally on how much guns the cartels procure? No one place is guilty they will get the guns from somewhere the money never runs out and they are plenty of countries and groups for them to acquire said weapons.

  6. I think the dude who posted "120%" comment was being sarcastic...I think the point he was trying to make is the U.S. is not the only gun source for the cartels. People assume because of the recent "Fast and Furious" debacle the U.S. exclusively supplies the cartels with weapons.

  7. why are people worried about where the weapons come from? if the supply of U.S. weapons runs out the cartels will buy more from south American sources, if that runs out they will buy from overseas. you act as if the weapons are the problem. it's not the weapon it's the criminal mind that wields them. the cartel didn't have a submarine they made a submarine. the cartel didn't have an armored personnel carrier so they made an APC. I have seen unstamped lower receivers and i almost had a heart attack. I am still not sure if they were cast by a backyard foundry or licensed arms manufacturer.

Really? Obama? Come on man. It was the ATF not Obama personally. Try to stay on topic.

Actually it was Obama, he is the only one that can authorize such an operation and sign off on it, so yes he is at fault.

He's not the only person that can authorize that sort of operation. You seriously think every single operation by all federal law enforcement agencies has to be run past Obama first?
