Knights Templar attack Federal police helicopter in Michoacan

A Federal Police helicopter was forced to land in western Mexico when it was "attacked with gunfire by suspected members of an organized crime group," a Public Safety Secretariat spokesman told Efe on Wednesday.

The attack happened in Apatzingan, a city in Michoacan state, but "the aircraft's stability was never at risk," the spokesman said.

The incident happened over an area of rough terrain and the pilot decided to make an emergency landing "to prevent any kind of mishap," the spokesman said.

The helicopter landed in Vicente Guerrero, a community located about six kilometers (3.7 miles) from the place where the incident occurred.

At least six officers were traveling in the helicopter and two of them were injured and "immediately taken to get medical attention, and they are out of danger," the spokesman said.

The helicopter was taking part in "patrol, enforcement and tactical support activities," the spokesman said, adding that he could not confirm whether the aircraft was actually hit.

Federal Police officers and army troops are guarding the helicopter.

The federal government has deployed police and army troops in Michoacan to fight the drug traffickers operating in the state.

Michoacan is home to the La Familia Michoacana cartel, which reportedly dissolved, and the Caballeros Templarios gang.

The gangs that operate in the state are mostly involved in drug trafficking, but they also carry out kidnappings and run extortion rackets.

  3. What's up with the rumor that La Familia Michoacana and Knights of Templar are fighting each other? That the leaders of each group aren't agreeing so now they're going at each other? I'm not saying its true but does anybody have any insight on that cause I know there was blockades and shootouts yesterday in Michoacan

I heard some other cartel probably Zetas are trying to move in on Michocan while the La Familia or Knights Templar are really weak. So they are trying to make the final push to end the gang all together and take over Michoacan for territory.

  5. So how is it that the chopper gets hit? Is it armed ? If not Why? You never fly alone 2 choppers one gets shot at the other takes them out. But they probably only had one. Oh Well??

  6. Apparently La Tuta's people, Los Caballeros Templarios, are fighting El Chango's people, La Familia Michoacana. Really retarded stuff. One of the groups has apparently aligned itself with the Zetas too, but I'm not sure which. I would guess it's El Chango's group though, if any of these rumors about a split are true. La Tuta has a real dislike of the Zetas and apparently was closer to El Chayo and thus presumably closer to the Carteles Unidos. Like I said it's all rumors though so who knows.

    It's a surveillance helicopter not a gunship.

  8. Weak. Mexico cant do anything right. Send in the DEVGRU SEALs on that stealth chopper they had. Land it right in durango, or wherever the fuck el chapo is hiding. Game over.

  9. That chopper is not a gunship. It might have FLIR technology on board, but no defensive weaponry. You can hit one of these with any of the high powered rifle rounds and bring it down.
