Mayor in Guerrero Assassinated


Mayor of Indian descend from the southern Mexican state of Guerrero in Zapotitlán Tablas, José Santiago Agustino, was executed Thursday by an unknown assailants.

The motive is unknown

The tlapaneco mayor was leaving a restaurant in a market place in Chilpancingo, the capital of Guerrero, at which time an individual shot him at close range and managed to flee.

"Santiago Agustino was walking to his car along with a group of staffers when he was intercepted by a stranger in the parking lot," said Bonifacio Montufar, director of the Municipal Police of Chilpancingo.

The mayor belonged to the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) and last January he had completed one year in office.

Violence against politicians

The authorities do not have a motive for the assassination.

This is the second murder this week against a politician in the state of Guerrero, last Sunday in Rey Hernandez was executed in the town of Ometepec. Hernandez was the leader of the Labor Party (PT, leftist party) in Guerrero.

Last August, the local deputy of the leftist Democratic Revolution Party (PRD), Armando Chavarria, was killed when he left his home in Chilpancingo.

  1. In dallas I'd talk to a mexican migerent who told me that the mayor from Guerrero was "cuniado" or brother in law with the so called Chapo thats why he is so hard to keep him in the slammer.
    This was two years ago so this is the wrong mayor.
