Segob Asserts that Violence is a Problem of Perception

The Secretary of Interior (Secretario de Gobernación), Fernando Gomez Mont, said that organized crime will not "bend" the state of the Mexican government and rejected the notion that crime has aggravated the country.

It's just a "matter of perception" because positive measures have been made in this regard, he said. "I understand that perception has worsened with the increased violence of criminal organizations for some years here," he added

From his standpoint the Secretary of Interior went on to say "the reality is better than the perception" on security in Mexico. It is necessary, he said, to change perceptions, because for the last 2 years the Mexican government has contained organized crime and has attacked "a phenomenon that appeared to have ran out of control."
