Mexican federal forces captured Ricardo Ozuna Tirado, alias “El Tío,” a key financial operator and leader of a Los Chapitos cell, during an operation in the upscale El Cid subdivision of Mazatlán, Sinaloa, on Saturday, July 25, 2026.
The operation was carried out by the Mexican Navy (SEMAR), working with the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) and the Attorney General’s Office (FGR). Two luxury properties were raided, netting six arrests, including the 49-year-old El Tío. Mexican media reports El Tío was wanted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency.

In addition to the arrests, authorities seized two firearms, magazines, ammunition, $100,000 in cash, cell phones, computers, and two high-end vehicles.
According to Mexican authorities, El Tío is a principal leader and financial operator of a criminal cell aligned with Los Chapitos, the faction led by the sons of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, that operates in the municipality of La Cruz de Elota in southern Sinaloa.

ReplyDeleteThe Mexican citizen is identified as a former wife and current partner of Gerardo González Valencia, a leader of the drug trafficking organization Los Cuinis, which maintains close ties with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
According to court documents, Amaral Arévalo conducted financial transactions with IMG Academy, a high school and sports training center located in Bradenton, Florida, to fund his son’s education. The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) had sanctioned her on August 19, 2015 for collaborating with Los Cuinis drug trafficking activities.
Although this designation prohibited her from carrying out operations within the U.S. financial system, the defendant signed contracts and managed the payment of school tuition for a total of 504 thousand 497 dollars. According to the Justice Department, these funds came from drug trafficking-related activities.
For its part, the educational institution IMG Academy reached an agreement of 1.72 million dollars with OFAC in February 2026 after having processed the payments and concluded tuition contracts with people sanctioned for their links with Mexican cartels.
Gerardo González Valencia, couple of Amaral Arévalo, had already been sentenced to life in prison in July 2023 for conspiracy to distribute cocaine for import purposes to the United States.
Following his guilty plea, Wendy Dalaithy Amaral Arévalo faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to 10 million dollars. The ruling of his sentence is scheduled for December 2. The case was investigated by the DEA Bilateral Investigations Unit in Los Angeles as part of the National Security Task Force (HSTF) initiative.
