Six Guardia Civil Police Officers Injured in Ambush in Zamora, Michoacán

Six Guardia Civil police officers were injured after their convoy was ambushed by gunmen in Zamora, Michoacán this afternoon. 

The attack occurred in the community of Estancia de Amezcua in Zamora, where armed civilians attacked officers while on patrol late in the morning of May 22nd. The shootout lasted several minutes. Six police officers were injured, four of them seriously, and another civilian was hit by a stray bullet. The criminals fled the scene, leaving behind a vehicle. No arrests have been made, though security forces have flooded the region looking for them.


The ambush occurred two hours after criminals set up a roadblock in the municipality of Villamar, on the highway section between Jacona and Jiquilpan.

Eleven Police officers have been killed in Michoacán state so far this year, according to Causa en Comun.
