This afternoon, the Attorney General's Office (FGR) reported the seizure of a clandestine tunnel used for fuel theft, connected to a Pemex pipeline in Santa Catarina, Nuevo León.
Speaking for the FGR, Ulises Lara reported today that the tunnel connected a property with a Pemex pipeline at the Santa Catarina Storage and Distribution Terminal facilities. The entrance to the tunnel was hidden inside a shipping container.
In addition to the property and tunnel, authorities seized 205,418 liters of fuel, 23 tractor-trailer trucks, 10 tank trucks, a crane, seven vans, three vehicles, a metal shipping container, a cubic tank, a drum, two jerrycans, various sandbags, construction tools, various documents, and a cell phone.
Since the late 2010s, Nuevo Leon has emerged as a leader in fuel theft in Mexico. Between January and March of this year, the state recorded 207 illegal fuel taps, the fourth highest in Mexico.
