Reynosa Wakes to Narco Blockades After Capture of Regional Metros Officer

By "El Huaso" for Borderland Beat

Early this morning, members of Los Metros were highly active across Reynosa, burning tires in roadways, deploying tire spikes, destroying government security cameras, and setting fire to a tire repair shop, in response to a government operation which captured a regional boss.

The attacks began early in the morning, with videos showing burning tires in roads and destroyed security cameras across the city. The highway to Monterrey was blockaded in at least three points with burning vehicles. Some social media users reported that armed individuals stole cars from several citizens to use them in the roadblocks. Locals also reported encountering tire spikes. Criminals also torched a tire repair shop owned by Marco Gallegos Galván, the President of the Congressional Public Safety Committee of Reynosa.

There were reports of confrontations between security forces and criminals, but no casualties have yet been reported. Government forces regained control of the situation quickly, with most violence ending around 8:00 a.m.

The Tamaulipas State government has confirmed the violence was the result of an arrest of a criminal figure, with news media identifying the captured target as Alexander Benavides Flores alias "Metro 9", a Metros officer in Reynosa behind several recent narco banners threatening the government.

The March 2026 Narcobanners

In March 2026, Metro 9 signed several narco banners around Reynosa, as reported by Borderland Beat. The banners threatened the local government's initiative to install security cameras around Reynosa, and stated that they would destroy any cameras they find. The message was signed by "Jefe Metro 9".

The messages stated: "Every post you put up is a post we will take down, let's see who gets tired first. Sincerely, Jefe Metro 9"
