Beltrán Leyva Operator Behind 2017 Bar Murder Killed Days After Prison Release

Óscar Antonio Gómez Sierra, alias ‘El Negro’, a Beltrán Leyva Organization (BLO) operative jailed in 2017 for the murder of a law student in a bar altercation, was killed at a carwash in Morelos two days after being released from prison.

El Negro was shot and killed by gunmen outside a carwash in Tetela del Monte, Cuernavaca on 10 April, days after his release from prison. It is unknown who ordered the killing, but the assassination after a nearly 9-year sentence shows the coordination of his attackers, likely only possible through a major criminal group.

In 2017, El Negro made national headlines and was the target of a major manhunt after he killed 23-year old Alfredo Israel Hernández, a law student who tried to stop El Negro from attacking a woman in the Attico bar in Cuernavaca, Morelos. CCTV footage from the bar showed that El Negro pulled out a pistol, fatally shooting Hernández before fleeing the scene with the help of bar Attico’s security. Bar Attico was later shut down by the state. Locals created a Change.org petition denouncing El Negro, and alleging that Attico was a known drug distribution site controlled by the BLO, along with several other Cuernavaca bars.

After the killing, El Negro fled Morelos state, stopping in Guanajuato, before being arrested in November 2017 in San José del Cabo. He was imprisoned at the Atlacholoaya de Morelos prison until his release last week.

In the 2010s, El Negro was wanted by Interpol for drug trafficking and distribution. He worked for Abel Maya Bandera, a BLO officer, in the states of Mexico and Morelos. El Negro was a fixture in Cuernavaca’s bar scene, known to be connected to several drug dealers on the state’s radar.
He was the son of Leticia Sierra Camacho, who was arrested in 2015 for drug trafficking.
