The Aftermath of El Mencho's Death: 252 Narco Blockades, 61 Dead Including a Pregnant Woman

"Socalj" for Borderland Beat

Map developed by "El Huaso"

Over 60 people, including a pregnant woman, 25 National Guard soldiers, agents and police officers, and 34 CJNG cartel members died Sunday. The operation to arrest "El Mencho" took place in the outskirts of Tapalpa, about 100 miles south of Guadalajara, Jalisco.

The woman, who was three-months pregnant, died during a shootout between National Guard personnel and members of the CJNG who were stopping cars to burn at the intersection of Avenida de la Mancha and Covadonga, in Zapopan.

Despite numerous social media posts claiming tourists and hotels were being targeted by cartel members in retaliation, especially in Puerto Vallarta, no reports of deaths or injuries have occurred.

A guard at the Ixtapa state prison in Puerto Vallarta died after a riot broke out following the killing of "El Mencho." A Jalisco Prosecutor's Office Agent died after being shot at the intersection of Federalismo and Patria in Zapopan.

Four CJNG gunmen were killed during the operation in Tapalpa near the outskirts of the Tapala Country Club. Three soldiers were killed in the operation as well.

"El Mencho," and two others were captured but had sustained serious injuries and died while being transported to Mexico City.

Nearly 30 CJNG gunmen died during confrontations in the ensuing aftermath. Including four in Michoacan.

National Guard members were killed in separate confrontations including eight of them in Atotonilco, six in Las Cañadas in Zapopan at the intersection of Avenida del Bosque and Saltillo. The GN's Teocaltiche base was attacked resulting in the death of one soldier.

So far, over 70 people have been arrested in connection with the events, including 2 in Tapalpa, 11 for their alleged participation in the violent acts that erupted in reaction, and 14 for alleged acts of looting some of the 69 Oxxo stores or 20 branches of the Banco del Bienestar that were set on fire.

The wave of violence that erupted this Sunday resulted in 252 roadblocks set up by drug cartels on highways in 20 states across Mexico, as well as vehicle fires and attacks on gas stations and businesses.

Jalisco saw most of the blockades, 65 in total and dozens more occurred in Aguascalientes, Baja California, Chiapas, Colima, the State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Michoacán, Nayarit, Nuevo León, Oaxaca, Puebla, Quintana Roo, Sinaloa, Tabasco, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, and Zacatecas.

By Sunday evening, Mexican authorities reported that over 90% of the blockades had been cleared.

    3. Rumor is he got captured too with el 03 both captured . The leadership dismantled in one swipe similar with what happened with Arturo Beltran he was having a meeting with his lieutenants . So basically get ready for a couple hundred / thousand more deaths as they fight it out for control and the drugs continue to come to the US . Basically nothing significant happened here other than change of leader . Seems like a very good distraction , the question is from what?

    7. Calm down fuckin Rambo. Cartels unlike guerilla type armed groups blend in with society even though they can have just about the same armament.
This means it's not just the US comes in and spots a cartel group and fights it out and done.
The US would have to weed out members first to avoid as many civilian casualties as possible.

  53. Through Central Military Intelligence, a trusted associate of one of (a) "Mencho's" romantic partners was located; he transported her to Tapalpa, Jalisco. There, she met with (a) "Mencho".

The romantic partner left the property, and intelligence indicated that (a) "Mencho" remained in a cabin in Tapalpa, Jalisco.

The operation was planned, and an operational force comprised of Army and National Guard special forces and Mexican Air Force aircraft was organized.

Once (a) "Mencho's" presence was confirmed, the operational force moved to apprehend him. Upon noticing the presence of military personnel, they opened fire on the soldiers and National Guard members.

    (a) "Mencho" left a group in the cabin area to halt the advance. The criminals attacked the personnel, so force was used, and the aggression was repelled based on the National Law on the Use of Force 1

Eight criminals died. (Four were preliminarily reported in the press release.) Seven long guns, two rocket launchers, eight vehicles, two ATVs, cartridges, and magazines were seized. Two soldiers were wounded.

    (a) "Mencho" and his inner circle fled to a wooded area. A perimeter was established that successfully trapped them. Upon noticing the force's presence, they opened fire, hitting a helicopter, which made an emergency landing.

Due to their injuries, evacuation to a medical facility in Jalisco was necessary, but (a) "Mencho" and his bodyguards died en route. It was necessary to transfer them to Morelia, Michoacán, and later to Mexico City

Central Military Intelligence determined that Hugo "H" (a) "Tuli", a Financial Operator, was in El Grullo, Jalisco. A unit was deployed; he attempted to escape in a vehicle, where he fired upon the officers, resulting in his death.

Members of the CJNG carried out highway blockades, vehicle burnings, and attacks on military installations in Jalisco, Nayarit, Michoacán, Puebla, and Tamaulipas
