Violence Against Women

The figures for violence against women in Ciudad Juárez are far from encouraging, showing a constant increase month after month in cases such as femicide, homicide, rape, abuse, and violence.

According to information shared by organizations such as the Mesa de Mujeres Network, in October alone, more than 700 women were victims of one of these crimes, and their cases were handled by the authorities.

These figures represent the difficult security situation women face in this city, since many of the cases occur within their own families, where they are supposed to feel protected.

The Network indicated that, for example, in September, 6,391 investigations were opened for crimes committed against women based on gender, with a total of 6,885 victims.

They added that, in August, more than 6,100 reports of gender-based violence were filed, a figure that has remained consistent throughout the year.

Regarding homicides, nine women were murdered in October alone, but only three of the cases were classified and investigated as femicides by the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Women.

Of these three cases, one involved a woman who was suffocated and buried in a backyard by her partner, while the other two were women who died in hospitals, one from asphyxiation and the other from stab wounds. That same month, 43 women of various ages were raped and another 46 suffered sexual abuse, in addition to 491 cases of domestic violence during the same period.

  1. Mexico is absolutely regressive about categorizing violence against women as a special case of violence. Many more women deserve to be brutalized and murdered than ever actually are. I have seen municipalities of extreme cartel influence where there is actually a pink police force, with pink cars and vulgar women running around expending resources to prevent gender violence in service to trafficking in persons. It's a diversion tactic for casting perpetrators as victims.

  2. This article is completely true and accurate. I recently went there because Buffy kicked me out of the house and I needed action. I went to the red light district and all the bars were closed. No more street working girls. They are all gone. They've all been killed off or they are scared of violence and left. I need to drive further away now to TJ to get some action. Nuff Said!!!
