Measures Urgently Needed to Curb Highway Insecurity

The National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism of Reynosa (CANACO) expressed its deep concern over the alarming increase in insecurity on Tamaulipas highways and stressed the urgent need for all three levels of government to implement immediate and coordinated actions to guarantee the safety of those who travel and work in the region. This situation has been a determining factor in the recent blockades carried out by trucking and agricultural organizations as a way to bring the problem to light.

The organization stated that these demonstrations reflect the frustration of the productive sectors with the constant threat of robberies, extortion, and the lack of minimum conditions for operating and traveling safely. "Impunity and the lack of effective protection have led truckers and farmers to raise their voices through these protests," stated CANACO.

According to data from the Chamber, more than 24,000 cargo thefts are recorded in Mexico each year, representing losses exceeding 7 billion pesos. These figures demonstrate the vulnerability of the productive sector and place business owners, truckers, and farmers in a critical situation, impacting the local and national economy.

Adding to this problem are the irregular checkpoints and filters installed without supervision, which, CANACO denounced, have become extortion hotspots and even serve as information centers for criminal groups that commit robberies on subsequent stretches of highway.

  1. Trump pardoned trump supporter JOH. Chapo should have invested some of his blood money in U.S. political campaigns rather than in Honduras (Chapo donated $1 million to help get JOH elected). I can hear him crying in his cell now.

  2. There are some insiders who report some of the robberies are staged by owners, who then sell the merca and file insurance claims. Not insignificant number...

  6. There is a very simple solution to this. Mexico needs to start building trailers like bank safes. The door that opens and closes needs to be locked with a special key and passcode. The driver must not know the code or have the key. Only the warehouse that is receiving the goods must know the code and possess the key. That is the only way to prevent highway robberies. 7. Mexico is still in a death spiral, reeling from the fact that they were conquered, dominated, breeded,, and forcibly given their oppressors language and culture.
No wonder it’s such a bloody mess.

  13. We can only imagine things will get worse than better soon. The immigration crisis and deportations have impacted revenue losses for many criminal organizations.

  14. Hola amigos! I have been traveling the TMPS highways in the summer and early fall. I come down from Austin towing my little boat (22ft blue wave with yamaha 250) and haven't had any exciting encounters. Just at the gas stations you have to watch the meter or they will charge you extra. I think this TMPS peligro stuff is overblown. It's always so sleepy when I head down the coast. We should get a borderlandbeat meet-up scheduled in Cd. Victoria. It's nice there, beautiful plaza and people. I don't do drugs but I buy a few cigars and a have a few margaritas. God Bless the cool fools and those who have said enough.
