Shootings In The Canán Ejido, A Fuel Station And An OXXO Are Found Riddled With Bullet Holes At Dawn

“Sol Prendido” for Borderland Beat

Following an intense shootout that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, November 30, in the community of Canán, south of Culiacán, a gas station and a convenience store were found riddled with bullet holes this morning. The damage is estimated at several thousand pesos, but fortunately, no injuries or deaths have been reported so far.

Which businesses were targeted?

Authorities reported that the damaged properties are located on the southbound lane of the Culiacán-Eldorado highway and at the main entrance to the aforementioned community. They are an Oxxo convenience store and a recently remodeled gas station, and fortunately, both businesses were closed at the time of the shooting.

What time was the shooting?

According to information released by authorities and residents of the area, the exchange of gunfire occurred around 4:30 a.m. this morning, when the 911 emergency service received several calls reporting a shooting in the community, near the gas station. Apparently, no law enforcement agency responded to the report.

Minutes later, the managers of both establishments arrived at the scene after being notified of the shooting and the damage. Upon arrival, they confirmed that both the Oxxo convenience store and the gas station had dozens of bullet holes in their facades, equipment, and furniture. Both businesses were closed to the public at the time of the incident.

What type of weapon did the gunmen use?

According to reports released to the authorities, after the shooting and hours later, elements of the State Preventive Police and the State Attorney General's Office arrived at the scene to gather information about what happened and collect the evidence found at the site, including several long gun casings of different calibers.

  1. This is what happens when a business refuses to pay the weekly cartel extortion fee. The screwed up thing that happens here is that the manager of the Oxxo who refused to pay the fee is not at the store or counter working. He probably just shows up for five minutes to collect cash and then he leaves. A young person is hired to work on a daily basis here and has no idea that an extortion hasn't been paid. This is the person who gets shot at not the manager. Don't work at Oxxos. Nuff Said!!!

    2. I literally cannot ever recall once an OXXO employee ever doing anything wrong or offending me or suggesting gang affiliation or trying to get over on me. Not even my lost years binging on Riunite Lambrusco and pork rinds slathered in Valentina. But this might be a scary one if you don't know the area very well.

  4. The website Borderreporter (not to be confused with the newer "Borderreport") is no longer up and it hadn't been updated for years. The owner removed their name from it long ago. In its heyday, it had better info than BB and the users more knowledgeable. The YT channel is still up been its been dead for years.

  6. This is what a failed state looks like! Violence on the streets aimed at rivals but civilians get most of the consequences. This is the price to pay for that powder to get to your nose. Think about it. Stuff said!!!
