CDG Chismes: Assassination of a FGR Delegate

For multiple reasons I haven’t taken the time to post anything for the past four months during which there has been very little to report with regards to the various factions of the Cártel del Golfo (CDG, Gulf Cartel), primarily due to the various CDG factions reaching a ceasefire earlier in the year, allegedly backed by the Tamaulipas government. Since then the main news has been fighting between the Los Metros Faction and the Cártel del Noreste (CDN), mostly in Nuevo León, but even that has gotten to the point of nothing noteworthy. However, things literally exploded in Reynosa last night…

The Attack

As reported by El Mañana and La Jornada, shortly after 7:00 PM a black Cadillac SUV driven by Ernesto Cuitláhuac Vázquez Reyna was attacked while traveling on Miguel Hidalgo Boulevard which doubles as the main highway 40 connecting Reynosa to Monterrey. The attackers threw a grenade under the SUV which started a fire and Ernesto Vázquez exited the vehicle. Immediately thereafter he dropped to the ground and a white SUV pulled up and fired multiple gunshots at him, leaving him dead. As his vehicle burst into flames a civilian pulled his body away from the vehicle and cartel forces mounted multiple roadblocks across the city.

The FGR Delegate

There’s not a lot of information being reported about the career of Ernesto Cuitláhuac Vázquez Reyna so we have to do some digging. He earned his law degree in 1989 from the Valle del Bravo University in Tamaulipas. By the year 2000 he was a member of law enforcement in Chiapas, where he would face allegations of illegal arrests.

Ernesto Vázquez was referenced in late April 2019 as the representative (delegado) for the state of Tamaulipas for the Fiscalía General de la República (FGR, Attorney General’s Office), a role that he continued to serve in up to his death. It would seem that Ernesto Vázquez became a player in Tamaulipas law enforcement around the time that Armando Daniel “El Choco” León García, Jesús Iván “El Boludo” Castellanos Alanís, César “El Primito” Morfín Morfín, and Zenón Guadalupe “El Pezón” Ruiz Ortegón declared themselves the new “jefes” of Camargo and Reynosa, that is to say leaders of Los Metros, although “El Primito” seized sole leadership by the end of August 2019.

Allegations of corruption began to surface online by March 2023, with it insinuated that dealing with “El Mofles” made Ernesto Vázquez able to afford his luxurious house and it should be noted that this was shortly after the arrest of Ernesto “La Mierda” Sanchez Rivera. In November 2023 it was alleged that he was protecting a high ranking member of the Matamoros Faction, José Alberto “La Kena” García Vilano, from being arrested. Claims were made in May 2024 that FGR agent Jaime Quiroga Urbina did the dirty work for Ernesto Vázquez and was directly involved in Ulises “La Fayuka” Raga Ortiz, a ranking member of Los Metros, being released from prison after being arrested in October 2023.

Motive for Murder

Assuming the rumors are correct Ernesto Vázquez is just another Mexican government official that makes money from looking the other way and ignoring certain cartel members, in particular Los Metros, so why would one want him murdered?

There’s a notable storyline that I almost covered as part of this series that took place in late May 2025, when four musicians from Grupo Fugitivo and their manager were killed in Reynosa. Nine alleged participants in that murder were initially arrested but after rumbling that the real killers were still free “El Jimmi”, also known as “Metro 47,” and later “El Fayuka” were arrested for having ordered the killings, with one version of events stating that a member of the musical group was romantically involved with a woman that “El Fayuka” was in a relationship with. Could any of this have played a part in wanting Ernesto Vázquez murdered?

A more recent event would seem like a more logical explanation. In late July the FGR mounted a major operation in the La Escondida section of Reynosa, seizing over 475 gallons of stolen fuel, nine tractor trailers, 12 bobtail trucks, and 39 frac tanks.

Responsible Parties

So far there hasn’t been rumblings of any notable individuals being directly involved in the murder of Ernesto Vázquez but as long as one disregards it being staged by the Matamoros Faction in order to “heat up” the Reynosa plaza, Los Metros would be the ones responsible. Does that mean that “El Primito” is ultimately responsible? Not so fast.

In my opinion one of the biggest mistakes made in cartel reporting is to paint a picture of organizations led by sole individuals whom everyone else reports to; reality isn’t quite that simple. There may be room for argument but from my perspective “El Primito” isn’t quite the “leader of Los Metros” as he is painted out to be, with his organizational structure primarily in the cities and towns west of Reynosa. When it comes to Reynosa itself Carlos Humberto “El Mono” Acuña De Los Santos has been in charge since early 2018. Although “El Primito” and “El Mono” appear to be strongly aligned there have been occasional rumors of tension, enough that one party killing a government official due to a dispute would not be all that surprising.

Another line to consider is the brother of “La Mierda”, Héctor “La Mimi” Sánchez Rivera. Former underlings of high ranking Los Metros member “El Chiricuas”, both these individuals have continued to operate in Reynosa despite conflicts with core Los Metros members. In fact there is another version of events regarding the killing of members of Grupo Fugitivo that states that they had been hired to play at an event by “La Mimi” and “El Fayuka” had them killed for doing so without his permission; ultimately “El Fayuka” was turned in so as to prevent war from breaking out between the underlings of “La Mimi” and “El Fayuka”.

Nevertheless, there is one possible sign as to who may be involved in the killing. Early this morning it was reported that “Comandante M49” and his armed underlings were spotted fleeing rapidly in vehicles. Also known as “El Snoopy”, Metro 49 has his own corrido by Golpe de Guerra from June 2023 and was mentioned in September 2024 among the high level targets that the military should seek in Reynosa. Coincidence or are authorities looking to arrest him?

And then there's always the longshot rumor: there have been rumblings of a return of “old school” members of Los Metros that will work against “El Primito”, just yesterday it was said that Luis Alberto “El Pelochas” Blanco Flores is out of prison. Time will tell.

  2. Where the heck have you been Itzli? I was worried about you. I thought ICE got you my friend. I am glad you are good. Do you have any information on the impact of MF CDS teaming up with CDN in these territories? Have these alliances calmed the waters? Are the authorities in favor of this? How much influence and say do CDN and CJNG have with these groups. Stay safe! Nuff Said!!!

    1. ICE me la pela, I have nothing to worry about but thanks for your concern. So as far as the whole MF/CDN thing goes I continue to be skeptical. I don't doubt that MF provides drugs to CDN and believe there to be a non-aggression pact between the cartels but as far as being fully aligned and helping in each others conflicts I have yet to see evidence to make me believe that is the case. Same with Chapitos and CJNG, I think the alliance is very limited but just my two cents.

  3. We're from very very close from here. We believe that CDG is trying to keep the area pure locals and it's no secret that El Primitos head is wanted.

    1. The ones coperating with the agencies are the bosses and the others are a bunch of savages thugs who think their codes and broke morals worth a penny. They can't control shit and that's why the US Agencies are with the "snitchers". There are reasons for choosing them and that's probably way beyond your comprehension on the subject.

  5. Matamoros behind the attack is completly nonsense. The truce is still happening and the delegate was covering XIX. Killing him just to heat Reynosa up would bring nothing worth, they got enough controlled plazas and an incursion to a stablished Metros plaza would bring attention on both of them. C'mon there are barely any news of Matamoros activity on the last 6 months. They got the backing of the government, they are not doing any mess and this would call an attention that they are not searching. On the other hand Morfin Morfin is hyped the news about stolen fuel brought a hell of attention on him. Theres this well known network of CJNG/Metros fuel traffick scheme that was highly notified with USA people being charged for being part of the whole thing. Welcome back Itzli! I understand the fact that there were no significant Tamaulipas news since i'm always searching about em as well. But you got a lot of people worried. Stay safe karnal!

    1. Sure nothing big happened the last 6 month but they have daily fights against each other and the military. I dont see a truce in place.

    2. Definitely agree, I threw it out there just because but it seems Contador learned his lesson and keeping things low key and under the radar. I didn't completely spell it out but I feel like there's something going on internally in Los Metros for this to happen, it brings too much heat and attention killing an official so brazenly, maybe I'm wrong but I don't think everyone was on board with this and it's going to have fallout.

  9. If the longshot rumor is true , would it be wrong to to think that Gama 3/Negrito would make a play to control Los Metros faction?

For context Gama 3 is Metro 3's younger brother. Who has been rocking with Grupo Escorpión for awhile now.

  10. So El Chiricuas M-85 is still in the game?

    1. It seems that he retired years ago and handed everything over to Mimi and Mierda. Officially Chiricuas was arrested some three years ago and extradited to the United States, been a while since I've looked at it and not sure that he's been tried yet but there's some doubt on his true identity.

  13. Hey Itzli Paquito the former metro that flipped to matamoros is still around? I heard that Scorpion 85 is called Paquito chances are its the same person?

    1. I've been told they are two different people and I'm more unsure about Metros Paquito in general, while his underlings flipped after he went to jail it's not completely clear if he's out and there's some indications that he may be with Metros still.

  14. Pelochas out hmm interesting from Los L’s to Los Zetas in 2010 the got arrested and deported then returned to CDG in 2011 as part of the Metros was spared but demoted for his role as a Zeta for a month in 2010 then became boss years later then got arrested in 2018 and now he’s free. His return could mean trouble.
