Sinaloa experienced a violent day, with up to 15 deaths reported at the start of the weekend.
José Maximiliano Insunza Ruiz, better known as "El Chochías" or "El 60," was captured by federal agents in the municipality of Navolato, Sinaloa. He is identified as an operative for Los Chapitos. At the same time, at least 15 people were reported dead in acts of violence in Sinaloa on Saturday.
Insunza Ruiz was arrested in the town of Campo Balbuena and in the municipality of Navolato. He is considered the right-hand man of Juan Carlos Bernal, alias "El 11," another operative of the criminal organization led by the sons of Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán. This individual was captured by members of the Navy (Semar).
Upon his capture, "El Chochías" was seized from a 9mm pistol with seven magazines and 54 cartridges, as well as 95 bags of a substance similar to marijuana and 103 bags of a substance resembling crystal meth. Everything seized was turned over to the Attorney General's Office (FGR).
In another operation carried out in Navolato, Sinaloa, two other people were arrested, according to information from the Sinaloa Public Security Secretariat (SSPE). These individuals, whose identities have been withheld, were seized: an AK-47 rifle, an M4 rifle, two handguns, and 10 magazines of various calibers.
These arrests are in addition to the violent incidents reported in Sinaloa on Saturday: at least 15 bodies were found in different parts of the state, according to a report by José Luis Echegaray, a correspondent for Radio Fórmula, in a link with Juan Becerra Acosta.
The events of the violent day were concentrated in the municipalities of Ahome and Culiacán, according to a Radio Fórmula correspondent. All of these incidents occurred one year after the capture of Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada, one of the founders of the Sinaloa Cartel and head of the "Los Mayos" or "Los Mayitos" faction.
At least 1,632 people have died in acts of violence since July 2024; in addition, 1,500 people have been reported missing. The violence has not only disrupted the lives of residents but also business owners, who are forced to close their businesses earlier.
In this past week, authorities announced the deployment of 1,800 Army personnel to reinforce security in Sinaloa. Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch stated that criminal organizations, such as Los Chapitos, have been "reduced" by the operations.
That quota money diminishing.
