After receiving written threats on the night of September 26, Oxxo convenience stores closed for the night in Irapuato, Guanajuato. According to TV Consecuencias, messages saying "paisano you must join up" were posted inside the businesses around 7 p.m..
The meaning likely was, "join us or else". It is possible criminal groups are exerting pressure on businesses to pay extortion fees, assist with money laundering, or act as spots to sell drugs or stolen gasoline.
Photos by journalist Gerardo Hernández for his outlet TV Consecuencias show several shuttered stores, with lights off and doors locked. One photo shows two National Guard soldiers standing guard on the street. He reported TV Consecuencias reported that 90% of the Oxxos in the city closed. There are at least 30 Oxxo convenience stores in Irapuato.
Neither Oxxo or local authorities have acknowledged the event.
These threats come just over a month after CJNG members burned over two dozen Oxxo stores across the state of Guanajuato in retaliation after the government attempted capture of their leader, as reported by Borderland Beat. According to El Sol de Irapuato, 13 of those were in Irapuato.

If it wasn't the american criminals there robbing me, it was the police and the poor mexican people robbing me because they said it's ok to do so cause they are poor and I am a rich gringo.
