1.5 Tons of Methamphetamine, 800,000 Fentanyl Pills and Other Drugs Seized in Record Bust in Sonora

"Socalj" for Borderland Beat

816,486 fentanyl pills, 1,476 kilograms of methamphetamine, 149 kilograms of fentanyl, just over four kilograms of opium gum, as well as two kilograms of marijuana were found in the truck.

Elements of the Mexican Army achieved one of the largest drug seizures in the state of Sonora after they stopped a truck loaded with more than 800,000 pills of apparent fentanyl, as well as almost 1,500 kilograms of methamphetamine, among other drugs.

The Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) reported that on August 10, the authorities managed to stop a cargo vehicle from the municipality of Culiacán, in Sinaloa, bound for Tijuana, Baja California.

More than 1,400 kilos of methamphetamine were found.

According to the information, it was a truck-type vehicle which used as a front to transport powdered fruit concentrates used to make flavored waters. Thus, Sedena agents implemented dissuasive tactics to divert the vehicle to a Strategic Security Military Post in the town of Querobabi in the municipality of Opodepe, in Sonora. Once at the scene, the vehicle was inspected with gamma rays and subsequently underwent a thorough review, which found irregularities in 46 barrels, where the transported drug was found. 816,486 fentanyl pills, 1,476 kilograms of methamphetamine, 149 kilograms of fentanyl, just over four kilograms of opium gum, as well as two kilograms of marijuana were found in the truck. If the documented number is corroborated, it would be the largest seizure in Sonora made by land interception services during the current administration.

Currently, Sonora is an area disputed by the Sinaloa Cartel, mainly by Los Chapitos, and the Caborca Cartel, founded by Caro Quintero. With the arrest of Rafael Caro-Quintero last month, violence in the area has increased, due to the possible power vacuum left by the leader.

The most violent municipalities in the entity are Guaymas, Cajeme, and Caborca, where there have been armed clashes, kidnappings, and attacks on homes. Within the area, criminal groups affiliated with the large cartels have been formed, which are the ones that dispute the territory, such as Gente Nueva, Grupo Delta, and Los Salazar.

    1. My theory is that since CDS has such an integral partnership and relationship with the federal government and the elite of Mexico, billions of the profits go to them. That’s why CJNG seemed to consolidate so much power and expansion, at least for a while since they didn’t (and perhaps still don’t) pay the federal elitists in Mexico City their cut and were able to enjoy most of their billions. They just paid the local and state governments, not the federal gov like the Sinaloa Cartel. So they saved money more easily I imagine. Still, as we know from the Zetas history; geographic territory and presence doesn’t equal power or even totality of profits or control of the drug market.

The CRS brief written in the previous post doesn't reflect U.S. policy or U.S. understanding of what's occurring in Mexico.. The writer of that brief knows little to nothing about the situation in Mexico and only copied and pasted a bunch of crap, some of which is inaccurate.
I like the CRS legal briefs. They are usually well researched and well written. The CRS brief eluded to was written by some lowlife congressional staffer that plagerized her entire CRS brief. She is only sucking off of the government's tit and waiting for a cushy retirement. She adds nothing to the U.S. congress' knowledge about the situation in Mexico.
Borderlandbeat should have read her brief before posting a story about it. I bet if they posted the brief here, Borderland Beat readers would tear it to shreds.
There is a possibility that CJNG is in 28 states, but I wouldn't base my understanding on such a poor CRS brief.
Also, see how Mexican society reacts to CJNG violence in the coming years. Ten years ago Mencho could have gotten away with the violence. Mexican law enforcement personnel have been improving in capacity and it's only a matter of time before they will be knocking on Mencho's door.

    4. 5:21 Mayo Zambada (CDS) is playing quietly and avoiding attention, focusing on keep operating and minimizing confrontations with rivals and law enforcement. By the other side chapiza (chapo’s sons) are doing exactly the opposite, trying to get new territories. Federal government is fighting little by little, and focusing on priorities, not fighting all of them at the same time, since that would be too invasive for population in between. There is no proof that CDS have any connection with actual administration. Elite in Mexico is relatively big, you should be more specific since just a handful of them are involved. Things had changed since the past years. In light of its inability to bribe federal gvmnt, governors are their option. Narcotrafico in Mexico is much more complex than just bribing in order to operate. ZETAS just relabeled as CJNG. Same platform, same ways to expand, same procedures

    5. I firmly believe SEDENA recruits cartel members to murder them in the name of "Production Quotas", their expansionist aims for power also can't really fight real crime...
AMLO need to wake the fuck up because SEDENA is really on quest for power and power and more power, let's not forget they have been sweeping Cienpedos and Ayotzinapa under the Presidential Palace Rugs trying to look like angels.

    6. 11:54 Administrations don’t matter. It’s just a new deal every six years and the president isn’t the most powerful man. No evidence he say? There was evidence literally at the El Chapo trial that even the US federal government has an arrangement with the Sinaloa Cartel and since at least the 1980s, Mexico‘s elite have relied on proceeds from the drug trade.

      Delete
    7. 10:52 There are no proven links with the actual federal administration (2018-2024). And Mexico's elite is very big, be more specific. Your conclusions sounds more like a personal opinion than verifiable facts.

  10. I think Infobae is a little incorrect on their reporting or something was lost in translation. That truck was headed north on the 15 and in that area, on the 15, is a very large truck inspection/weigh(?) station. It's large, and that is where the x-rays would have been done. It's next to, but not in, Querobabi. So hard to say whether there was intel or they got lucky with the inspection.

    5. I am live in England. I have been communicating with Priti Patel Home Secretary of great Britain for several months about tackling the demand for drugs in Britain. Britain is now going to spend £1.105 Billion pounds on drug treatment and drug testing. Penalties will be enhanced for failing a drug test and the police will be required to test for drugs under a whole range of circumstances with a 3 tier system of penalties including passport confiscation, prison time, drivers licence confiscation etc etc A conference was held in May this year about it and a white paper is under review with strict penalties to tackle demand. They are implementing most of my suggestions about dealing with the demand side of the drug problem. My house does not have a basement but I suspect cartel fanboys like you do have basements. I am also in favour of armed military intervention in Mexico to destroy the drug cartels https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/swift-certain-tough-new-consequences-for-drug-possession-white-paper

Please tell Ms. Patel that the police in Mexico need our help. A billion pounds would go a long way in Mexico to fighting the cartels which would lead to less drugs in the UK.
I appreciate your work to try to reduce drug consumption in the UK and hope you continue to do this work.

    11. a billion pounds in Mexico would disappear into a foreign bank account. Britain has agents on the ground throughout Latin America who are engaged in stopping shipments and locating traffickers. They are fairly successful in this but it relies on local police taking action on the information they are given. Some countries are more cooperative than others
