Tamaulipas: 14 Improvised Armored Fighting Vehicles (IAFVs) Seized

"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat

The Tamaulipas Public Security Secretariat reported that, in the course of the last 12 days, the Special Operations Group (GOPES) of the State Police seized 14 Improvised Armored Fighting Vehicles (IAFVs), the so-called "Mexican Narco Monster Trucks", that were used by organized crime groups for their operations in the border area of the state.

The securing of these units is part of the actions carried out by GOPES troops during constant surveillance tours to deter criminal gangs.

The “Mexican Narco Monster Truck” vehicles are used by criminal organizations to confront opposing groups and cover their illicit activities. In addition to armor, they have armored adaptations for the power units.

Between June 19 and July 23, the Special Operations Group (GOPES) has seized 73 vehicles of various types, 14 of which are called “Narco Monsters”, as well as 82 long weapons.

  2. Great catch GOPES. Seems this unit has no curupted members yet, furthermore they are doing a better job than the Mexican Marina's, which used to do a quota of 4-5 busts a year of safehouse drugs, to show USA they are fighting the war on drugs. No drug busts have been done by the Mexican Marina this year, Perhaps they will catch up before December ends.

  13. Can you imagine these type of armored vehicles driving from their base down the dirt roads and confronting their foes, then driving back? This is weird shit. Armored vehicles, protected from IEDs in Iraq aren't this conspicious or effective. That hard to track down . . don't think so
