Nayarit: 3 Shootings Between Authorities and Cartel Members Leaves 4 Dead

"HEARST" for Borderland Beat

On June 6, 2021, a series of confrontations between alleged members of organized crime and members of the National Guard in the Tepic area of Nayarit state left at least three dead cartel members. It also left one National guard member dead and another wounded.

Incident 1
LOCATION: San Cayetano on the Tepic-Pantanal Highway, Kilometer 1
INJURIES/DEATH TOLL: 2 cartel hitman dead, 1 National Guard dead, 1 National Guard injured

Members of the National Guard were on their way to the Amado Nervo International Airport. They were driving on the Tepic-Pantanal highway. Within the town of San Cayetano, assailants inside a white Ford pickup truck intercepted and attacked the National Guardsmen. Some news sources specify that the attack reportedly happened near the Amado Nervo International Airport, close to an area where vehicles are stored.

According to El Occidental, unofficial sources allege that the assailant's white Ford pickup truck was not alone, but rather was a part of a convoy of vehicles that moved to intercept the National Guard vehicle.

The National Guard members repelled the aggression of the assailants. The aggressors then tried to flee and a chase ensued. The assailants later abandoned their white pickup truck around half a kilometer away from where the confrontation occurred. Initial reporting suggests that in this shooting two dead cartel members were found inside the abandoned vehicle.

Two National Guard members were injured during this shooting. One of the men sustained a gunshot injury to his left eye, his partner sustained a gunshot injury to either the shoulder or to the abdomen, with reports varying between sources. Both men were transported aboard an ambulance to a private hospital in the city of Tepic for medical attention. The soldier with the gunshot wound to the eye reportedly died while receiving medical attention. The other soldier is reportedly in “delicate” condition as of the writing of this story.

Hours after the events of incident 1, other National Guard members were attacked near the El Dorado charro (Mexican cowboy, rodeo) arena. The attack was yet again repelled by the soldiers and another shootout ensued.

An armored vehicle that the El Dorado assailants were using was damaged and after the shots ended, one dead hitman was found inside. One cartel hitman reportedly died and no National Guard members were reported as injured. Although one possible injury on a soldier can be seen in a video of the El Dorado event.

    4. 12:12 dude sinaloa its not worth anything for cjng, to be honest cjng know they wont win it even if they tryed, but they dont want it, they just want zacatecas for the roads that go north, and durango they are just teasing cds 🤣🤣🤣 NOBODY CARES ABOUT SINALOA BUT YOU GILBERTONAS!!!!! Get that thrue your heads

    5. 356 Sinaloa has routes north and directly to Nogales, Mexicali, Tijuana etc. Most definitely would be beneficial to have especially with all the drug labs and traffickers, Sinaloa would open up a world of new customers, product, routes, etc for CJNG. It’s a vital piece of the puzzle, and CJNG always said they want the whole country…
