The Drug Enforcement Administration said they arrested a suspected drug trafficker known for transporting cocaine and coordinating the transportation of the narcotics, according to an arrest affidavit filed on June 15, 2020.

As part of an ongoing long-term investigation, agents identified Jesus Alberto Gonzalez-Chanona, also known as Lukas, as a cocaine transporter and transportation coordinator for a drug trafficking, money laundering organization.

Gonzalez-Chanona was known to deliver large kilogram quantities to stash houses in Laredo and also to deliver large kilogram quantities to couriers in the Laredo area for further distribution into the United States.

On May 28, 2019, Drug Enforcement Administration special agents set up surveillance on Gonzalez-Chanona as he arrived at the Fuel America Travel Center gas station located on 13602 Mines Road. Special agents said they witnessed Gonzalez-Chanona hand over a bag containing 10 individually wrapped bundles, believed to contain cocaine, to a male.

Special agents later confirmed that the bag contained 22 pounds of cocaine, according to court documents. The contraband had an estimated street value of $230,000.

Gonzalez-Chanona was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance. (the others arrested are pictured below)
