World's Most Dangerous Cities

Parro Borderland Beat World Atlas

Before planning your next vacation, it may be worth doing some research into the cities you plan to visit - especially if the itinerary involves locales in Mexico and South America, where the top 10 most dangerous places in the world are located. According to a report by the Citizens’ Council for Public Security and Criminal Justice, these cities have documented the highest homicide rates per capita.

Below is the Most Dangerous Cities list according to World Atlas.

Tijuana is the most dangerous city in the world

[My analysis; USA has 10% of the most violent cities in the world.  Mexico has 30%.]

Named the most dangerous city in the world with 138 murders per 100,000 residents (about seven killings per day), Tijuana is known for violent crime and poverty. Not long ago, it was a party spot for American college students during spring break, until its seedy underbelly of crime surfaced. Most of the violence comes from human trafficking and drug trades (largely crystal meth), each run by different gangs, as well as a rivalry between the Sinaloa (El Chapo) and Tijuana cartels. 1. This is per 100,000 people, Chicago has a lot of murders but they also have a huge population.

For the country of Mexico this really tells to the level it has sunk....either the people rise up and fix this or continue to live in fear and death.

    2. Reading article, I thought they were rating places in Mexico, then I saw other cities? Yea, I strongly agree! This can't be right, CHICAGO is not in the top five? Either, Chicago is hiding death rates OR someone didn't do their homework!

    3. That's because from a homicide standpoint, these cities are far worse. Truth, do your research.

    4. 1042 no Chicago isn’t on the list.... and the numbers don’t lie. Except in Latin America where many murders are not reported.

    5. Chicago Is not as violent as people think they never were the murder rate capital of the United States Cities like Saint Louis Baltimore Oakland and Richmond California have always been worse

      Delete
    6. Veracruz, tamaulipas, michoacan, coahuila, guerrero, and Nayarit states attorneys and governors have always left it to their chief Law Enforcer States Attorneys and their private State Police contractors to disappear carefully their murdered, victims of extortion, kidnapped for ransom, rebel cartel members or innocent people. This shit started with Salinas' disappearances of Cardenas volunteers, 500 to a 1000 (estimated)

    7. Chicago's murder rate has been in rapid decline since they started pushing people to conceal carry and defensive gun use has gone up.

    8. Also, New Orleans has had 145 homicides, with a population of 1,200,000. Pretty easy math.

      Delete
  4. Ok how the hell is Chicago not on the list? St. Louis, Detroit, and New Orleans arent great but Chicago should be #1 in USA.

    1. Go look at the populations of the other three places compared to Chicago.

      Delete
    2. I'm figuring they are ranked relative to population because I was wondering the same

      Delete
    3. Certain areas of Chica-go are reli baaaeed but since it is kinda big on the whole the numbers are such they don't make the list.

Don't forget: they got some pretty good emergency facilities so many who'd be dead 10 years ago are saved nowadays. There be many shootings, but lot less dead than in LatAm or even StLouis or B-town.

    5. 5:41.. whacha talkin bout willis??? of course it is.
I am thinking they only included cities with a large population, as compton is apx 23 per 1000 and number 1 in overall crime in california. But it is a small city not even 100k pop. and this is homicide only stats.

when the gangs were at unprecedented war in 1990 the homicide rate was a staggering 91 per 100k

Where the racial makeup was predominantly black, in 2015 Hispanics became the majority.

The comment you sent in yesterday was disturbing and disrespectful to us. If you don't like what we post or rules leave...please.

I strongly believe you are a troll who shit stirs on every post. You claim to be from US and MX and every city we report about. You claim to personally know subjects and take a position one day that is contradiction the next. One day your are a racist the next fighting back against someone who is. obviously a game to you. seeing how much attention you can glean.

I am inclined to just not post any of your comments because you waste our time. Yet you have proven yourself to be capable of strong, relevant comments. And believe be I get it. I is not that difficult.

  11. This is 2018 can't find 2019.

The murder rate in Chicago is 20.7 per 100,000.

In 2018, 563 people were murdered in the city.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Hmmm. I know this is per capita but even then, this is off. How do Caracas and Fortaleza have more homicides to date than Tijuana but still rank lower than Tijuana. Again, I understand it's per capita but something is still off.

    ReplyDelete
  13. By the end of 2015, Chicago's homicide rate would rise to 18.6 per 100,000. By 2016, Chicago had recorded more homicides and shooting victims than New York City and Los Angeles combined - Wikipedia, half of New Orleans, #50. Culiacan is #16 on the list above. Puerto Rico is a US territory.

All the crime in Chicago can be blamed on needs for a Bulls arena and White Sox baseball park, the owners of the teams turned the Hoods on to crime to tear them down and they have plans for Humboldt Park, one big gigantic casino on the second floor...with landing strips and helipads.

    1. Cocoa Victor has always been a CDG stronghold. What's left of the old school clicked up w the CDG or high tailed it to Veracruz to click up w FEGS or Z-35. CDN has no real footing in CV. Here's a question...Wheres El Tory been hiding? Hes been oddly quiet after going on a warpath through NE Mexico. Personally, I think hes making a play for Monterey and Nuevo Leon not for CDN but CJNG. Monterey would be the perfect central location for Mencho to try to take before taking a real shot at Juarez or Tamps. Second richest city in Mex, no dominant cartel (sorry Los Billy) tech and industry hub, large metro area w major highways leadingin all directions. From a pure strategic military perspective he'd almost be crazy not too. Same reason white boots called it home. Who knows, Let's just hope I'm wrong.

The murder rate for Johannesburg has fallen from 67.9 per 100,000 people in 1995, which is probably where you remembered that city from, but that’s 25-year-old information.
Meanwhile, Tijuana is roughly DOUBLE that number.

You do know that African Americans did NOT swim across the Atlantic on their own free will and that the very fruits of their labor was born on their backs , literally ? The US economy was largely based on Slavery ( and not just blacks ) and still is on Latinos, not to mention Manifest Destiny etcetc ?? Chicago, St Louis, Detroit, Baltimore, and the queen of them all New Orleans where it all started from, yes, have in common a lot of African Americans and now immigrants from all over but it is the poverty, drugs, education and inequality that keeps them down, not the color of their skin.

  24. I bet you that like every other statistic in Mexico, these have been jiggled (downward). disappearances don't count and when/if they find a body it often gets overlooked in the homicide report because it can't be identified. Also, those who report these statistics make mistakes. Those who transcribe these statistics make mistakes. Those who publish these statistics make mistakes.

I would estimate that a few of these are accurate, most of these are at a few percent plus (much more likely) or minus (very few) and that there are a few outliers who are straight-up under reporting. Acapulco for sure. Cancun too.

All the numbers from Venezuela, Brazil, and especially Honduras are bullshit. Add at least 15 - 20%.

The US statistics are much more reliable and close to being accurate.

      Delete
    3. Not sure about African countries, but when it comes to Middle East, the punishment for criminals are unimaginable and inhumane. So the possibility of committing crime again in their own nation is minimal. Will you cut off hands of pickpocket ? They do. And they don't keep criminals in prison before torturing them to the core, to an extent the criminal will beg to die. Criminals are not humans to enjoy human rights, they should be dealt like in Saudi and Middle East nations. Sometimes democracy sucks with crime issues

  29. I’d still rather be in Acapulco than home right now. It’s sort of hard to imagine Acapulco is more “dangerous” than Karachi or Somalia or Syria. I mean I know it’s bad and I’m not the head in the sand type but I do still go once per year and it’s the best week of the year for me. There’s no way as a gringo Acapulco is more dangerous to visit than Aleppo Syria. Yemen? I mean common

    1. Syria is in war so they dont count same with Yemen , while look up tourism videos about Karachi dont look like dangerous city just poor, like Indian cities but no one is scared of them , but Pakistan has dangerous areas that border with Afghanistan, Somalia may be dangerous but Somaliland is fine , Iraq is dangerous but Kurdistan part is generally under control. Acapulco isnt even biggest city of Mexico so if you compare it with another city that has 600 000 people think where you are most likely to get shot by armed robbers , Taif - Saudi Arabia, Dammam - Saudi Arabia, Jerusalem - Israel or Konya - Turkey ?

You have to understand, that cartels run shit in Mexico. That's buying out from top officials to the municipal police. In TJ it's do or die. No scary shit. You will get smoked in broad day light with witnesses and all. They not worried about forensic or an investigation or witnesses. Trust me. I use to see it first hand. So please whoever's from big major cities, who have so call high murder rates. You guys are not even close. Again. In Mexico they can give a rats as about investigations/forensic/detective's etc. When they want you..they will find you. And if they can't find you, they'll find someone or someone's you love and kill them too. U guys are hilarious. Not proud of it cuz that's were I was born. I just wanna keep in a real perspective.
