Surge in Minnesota drug seizures reflects influence of cartels

Chivis Martinez  Borderland Beat Star Tribune  TY GUS

BCA forensic scientist Becky Willis measured out a small amount of heroin.

Minnesota law enforcement saw surges in meth, cocaine and heroin seizures last year, more evidence that drug cartels are operating a thriving network from Mexico to the Midwest.

The state’s multijurisdictional Violent Crime Enforcement Teams impounded 1,706 pounds of meth last year, a 49% increase from 2018 and a 625% rise over the past five years, according to data released by the Department of Public Safety this week.

The task forces, designed to target drug and gang crime, confiscated 55 pounds of heroin last year, more than double the amount in 2018, according to the data. They seized 106 pounds of cocaine, an 80% increase from the year prior.

The data reflect a vast shift in drug trafficking in Minnesota over the past two decades. In 2003, during the height of the last meth wave, authorities discovered 410 meth labs in Minnesota. Last year they found only four.

Instead, Mexican cartel organizations have staked their claim here. Minnesota has become a national distribution hub for meth, creating a new epidemic of cheaper and more potent product than ever before.

“Meth is our biggest drug of choice here, and it’s cartel meth,” said U.S. Attorney Erica MacDonald.

    5. 11:53 Arizona was the turf of apache sheriff Joe Arpaio, the former DEA agent who got bitch slapped in Mexico City by a Latino DEA agent for racist comments, arpaio and Sinaloa seem to have been working together since the murder of Kiki Camarena, just like Juarez Cartel of Pablo Acosta was taken over by DFS Commander Rafael Aguilar Guajardo until DFS AGENT Amado Carrillo Fuentes retired him with honors in Cancun...
Truth be told, US/Mexico drug trafficking has prospered at the shade of shady governments on the US all these years, but private US businessmen and banksters have reaped almost all the benefits.

  3. It would be great to have only Minnesota in the crosshairs of drug surge in America. However, there are many states witnessing a spike in drug confiscations. Along with a spike upwards of usage.
Drugs are not restricted to any one state but nationwide.

    2. Why does BB condone such racist comments to be posted here.
Clearly advocating the ignorance which has divided Americans nationwide.
Clearly the rules of commentating need to be addressed. Rather, its rules of conduct.

  5. Just Say No To Drugs ! In all seriousness, you really gotta be naive as fuck or crazy as fuck to start doing meth. That's not something you jump into right away. The priority here should be to keep it as far as possible from the childrens.

    1. "From anyone using" should be the appropriate response. This latter approach makes an impact for demand.

  6. 3:12 Yes such a brilliant idea just say no you and Nancy Reagan are both geniuses. Try reviewing some research and literature—telling a drug addict who has a disease, it’s called addiction, to just say no is like telling an overweight adult to just stop eating and everything will be alright. It’s called drug treatment for a reason.

    1. Truth to the saying is correct. "Say No To Drugs", is the most effective tool if only applied. Added with a cost effective solution to an overwhelming tax burden upon its citizens with no results.

  12. Just a little over 24 kilos of H and a little over 50 kilos of coke confiscated in a year? That is peanuts almost nothing which means they have some major problems up there, but for real this is the current condition in the us as a whole we are being flooded with purer and cheaper drugs.

  13. So so true, o remember Chicago 2005-2006 , pure untouched snow coming in by the half ton , up to two tons depending who you were every 60 days, and same time brown and gray powder was ramping up, Mex made.. the snow was s. America just came thru Mex , then the super labs were making meth like 2000 USD for 2.2 lbs in d.f., snow was 7-10k USD and them Brown and grey powders were were 15-20000usd 2.2lbs now fast forward 15 years the synthetic ice and fent caused them Brown and Grey's to cost half of what they were 15 years ago, the snow is like 16k went up because it's easier to cook and smuggle rather than dick around with transport of snow , payment bla bla AND ice Is still about what it was 2000usd , this is Mex prices in USD just think that h epidemic is now only 10k a kg and the synthetic fent is same price .. I just wish I could get some Molly , so much stuff available just the one I want I can't find.. jajaja
