Mexico reveals webs of corruption in contracts, trafficking

Mexico City - Mexico’s top financial investigator on Friday reported on the webs of corruption and money laundering that thieves, traffickers and political figures have used to hide their wealth.

Santiago Nieto, the head of Mexico’s Financial Intelligence Unit, said a federal judge took bribes to rule in favor of the violent Jalisco cartel, and then used a lawyer’s office to buy vehicles and send as much as $2 million to the United States.

Another gang stole fuel from government pipelines and set up trucking companies to use the diesel and launder profits from sales of fuel to third parties.

Nieto revealed that a sex ring trafficked as many as 2,000 South American women into prostitution in Mexico over the course of a decade. They used front companies and web sites to charge for their services and distribute profits.

He said there were over $100 million in suspicious deposits and transfers to accounts linked to he former head of the country’s state-owned oil company.

Nieto said government money was channeled into a web of companies that sent about $2 million, and perhaps much more, to relatives of the country’s former top security official.

That official, former Public Safety Secretary Genaro Garcia Luna, is being held pending trial in the United States for allegedly taking bribes from the Sinaloa drug cartel.

Nieto said a web of companies got tens of millions in Mexican government contracts for security software, and later channeled some of the money through Panama to Garcia Luna, who lived in Miami, Florida after leaving public service in 2012.

Garcia Luna, 51, was indicted on three counts of cocaine trafficking conspiracy and a false statements charge in New York. He waived his right to a detention hearing in Dallas a week after the federal case against him was made public in New York City.

After all there are millions of weapons trafficked from the US illegally in the hands of c4iminals and wannabes that have not been confiscated...
You could get your "so called" presidente and military and police stop the illegal weapons traffick to Mexico, but they do not get kickbacks from the NRA to do any of that

  3. How much will GGL talk?? I wonder how much family he has left in Mexico? Or, if that even matters to him. Usually these gov criminals don't adhere to the Stop Snitching mantra. That is only for the plebes, and low level scum. This guy probably can take down most of the Mex gov, not to mention those in the US who were obviously complicit. I've said all along, NONE of these cartel leaders could operate at those levels, without help from high ranking officials from both sides of the border. This is a big catch. Wouldn't surprise me at all if Chapo volunteered to testify against him, for some possible privilege for him or his family. JMO

    1. Sorry bud I don’t get involved in politics. I’ll leave all that to those who believe in man made systems. I might memorize some characters and their actions. But even then their actions have never affected what I do.

    2. 9:00 you support people with your work, they may pay you, you may volunteer, or y ok uh may be a mercenary, it is like, blackwater, changes names like bloomers and ended up serving the russians, chinese, arabs after Iraq kicked them out, now even serve domestic enemies of the US trying to establish "back channels" to facilitate their selling the US down the drain...

    3. Well Sol, that seems to be the thought process of most Mexicans. And that's the reason Mexico is in the mess its in.

    5. @7:31 I’m just here to learn a few things. And I provide a free service with nothing in return. It’s up to every individual what they’re going to take from my words. You’re either going to use what I provide or you’re not. It’s up to you. @12:03 you’re somewhat right. I will say I am pro war. Again we all see the world differently for our own reasons. And last but not least wars will continue for many many years. Things aren’t going to get better. They will only keep getting worse. But it’s nice to hear when so many people seem to think that they have the be all end all solutions.

    6. When you would not volunteer for war for free, but expect pay and training and schooling and retirement and health care among other benefits, it gets hard to see the service to your country, I do not mean service members are bad but there is a stench of corruption from above, specially when a vicepresident makes off with the 30 or 40 million dollar commissions from his "former defense military contractor employer" for setting up his war for false wapons of mass destruction...is is not the sting from the ranks what stinks the US military members but the stink from above...

  7. USD100 million linked to one individual!

It makes you realize that those in power in Mex have no incentive whatsoever to take meaningful action to end corruption.

Those empowered to end it are the biggest beneficiaries!

  8. Without the drug profits...what will Mexico profit from? The politicians in Mexico know they can’t profit off of a society that doesn’t have much of an education or innovative enough to generate new products, new ideas or new companies. They have no choice but to be complicit in the drug trade.
    Keep it classy Mexico!

    3. 8:28 you know perfecly most of the billions of dollars from drug trafficking do not go back to Mexico, proof is Mexico has never been fined billions of dollars for money laundering like some of the biggest and finest of the worldly banks, HSBC, USB, Deutsche, bcci...
Mexicans live off maquiladoras making fine cars for american market like Honda, Toyota, Lexus, BMW, selling pirated goods and maseca to each other and forming cartels once in a while to steal each other's women and maruchan, all of that never paid billion dollar fines to the US or England or russia or china or europe.
--Now don't get me started Mr Big Yap...

    4. 8:28 how can the citizens of Mexíco realize their potential when the country elites are corrupted and the US has them by their genitals? Do you honestly think these corrupted malinchistas will do whats best for societal progress? Has Mexíco never had ANY advanced society? Are you a sell out or just another shit talker? One year passes and we will continue to witness the changes!
