Texas: Bullet may have been shot from Mexico when Man killed while jogging along Rio Grande

Chivis Martinez Borderland Beat Thank you TuFren!  From The Monitor

A Brownsville man jogging along a levee of the Rio Grande was shot to death and investigators believe the bullet may have come from Mexico.

The body of Miguel Angel Valdez Hernandez, 57, was discovered Tuesday afternoon by a farm worker driving a tractor.

During a news conference, Cameron County Chief Deputy Gus Reyna said they have no suspects in the shooting, but are looking for a small white extended cab pickup that was seen across the river about the same time as the shooting.

Reyna said several people were seen in the bed of the truck.

“A this time we are currently looking at all possibilities, including that the shot that killed our victim may have come from Mexico,” Reyna said. “We have contacted Mexican authorities to assist us in this investigation.”
Brownsville EMS responded to the scene, which was on the levee south of Riverside Road, shortly after 4 p.m. and authorities believe Hernandez died sometime after 3 p.m.

Hernandez lived in the area and frequently jogged on the levee, sometimes twice a day.

Reyna said Hernandez received a gunshot wound to his waist area.

Authorities continue to investigate.

  3. A distant relative had land in the Rio Grande Valley, just across the border. Bullets would fly and act like nothing happen.
I guess the "coyotes" now are armed.

    3. Though I’m for illegal immigration because of the possible terrorist that can come through the border, it just makes caucasian men more proud to think the US only belongs to them and then they want to treat everyone else like second class citizens.

    4. Most of that area already has wall. On some parts it's right next to the river, on other it's about a half a mile in. Who knows where exactly he got shot.

  10. Many a bullet has crossed the Rio Grande, discharged from either side or the other, sometimes being fired towards each other during an incident or skirmish, most kick up the dust, plop in the river and such. Not this time.
