Sonora: 3 men who were missing found dead from bullet wounds in San Carlos/Guaymas

Chivis Martinez Borderland Beat from El Sol de Hermosillo

Typically peaceful, San Carlos/Guaymas has experienced an uptick of violence for the past year. US consulate issued security alert for three cities in Sonora.  Warning applies to San Carlos, Guaymas and Empalme and follows recent criminal activity

When the bodies of three lifeless people were found with bullet wounds inside a vehicle in Guaymas, Sonora, the State Attorney General's Office informed that one of the victims has already been identified.

It was at 00:40 yesterday, when the municipal and state authorities found a gray Dodge Attitude, model 2017, where were the remains of Christopher Miguel N , 22 years old and the bodies of two more men.

Official data reveal that Christopher N , is originally from Hermosillo, who apparently was missing since March 15, until he was found in San Carlos Nuevo Guaymas at kilometer 1 + 800 of Boulevard Manlio Fabio Beltrones.

It is worth noting that the person identified by the FGJE, up until now, was in social media publications, along with two other people who disappeared in Bahía de Kino, as well as the victim who is identified so far.

At the scene, the municipal and state agents cordoned off the scene, until Service personnel arrived to begin with the first inquiries.

Similarly, the vehicle in which the deceased were present had damage produced by firearm projectile, apparently assault rifles type AK-47 and R-15. At the site, the men were intercepted by a group aboard a truck, who opened fire with weapons of different calibers.

In the site more than 90 casings of different weapons were counted,  one of the victims was tied with industrial tape.

    3. It’s not that bad. I live in Obregon and travel to the beach about once a week for work. As long as you are not a narco it is safe in the San Carlos area. Obregon is a bit dangerous right now but Guaymas & San Carlos are not bad

  2. This makes no sense, they where intercepted and shot? As if they been missing but a week later they where somehow driving around like they weren't missing when suddenly they where murdered by men in a truck that intercepted them?

These guys where not intercepted, the legs of the guy sitting in the drivers side are tied up, he was not driving that car, they where places there by the killers and then they got sprayed.

    2. From what I see on here, usually anything AK is Sinaloa. CJNG usually straight R-15.

  7. So sad. About 40 years ago my girlfriends and I used to travel through Guaymas . Never a problem. Now I won’t go there accompanied by my husband. It isn’ a good vacation if you have to keep looking over your shoulder.

    1. It still is, as my cousins say when I ask "it's just the narcos"
I may buy a home in San Carlos. BEAUTIFUL!

    2. Chivis, you made me look on youtube for san carlos, guaymas. it's very beautiful. if you have cousins in guaymas, why don't you ask them which cartels are fighting there? or maybe you don't want to bother them with such questions...

    3. Abuelita: You gotta be kidding? Given your expertise on Mexico's problems, I would not spend 10 minutes in that "GOD FORSAKEN" land. I know about Mexico's beauty... been there done that. Saw the Valenciana in Taxco, the divers in Acapulco, Pascuaro, Morelia, Palenque, Guadalajara, etc, etc. ... I stayed in Ocotlan with family. I even camped on the beach with family and friends at San Quintin BC. I loved Mexico back then. Today, I would not go near the place, mostly because I have friends and family that would be stupid enough to visit me... And these "air-heads" of mine would probably wear targets on their backs for all kinds of extortion games Mexican criminalsand even merchants and cops play on tourists(the levantones, e.g.).
Is it that I have gotten old and overly cautious? Probably. This morning I looked in the mirror and saw a wrinkled old culon looking back at me.

Naw, If I had the money, I'd like to see Japan, China, Russia.... anywhere but Mexico.

    4. It is an amazing place which so much to do. it sits right on the sea of cortez, so the fishing is incredible.

I There is only one cousin I can ask about narcos. I just sent a text to her. She knows about my work here at BB, no one else does. and she scolds me all the time. I will let you know if she gives me an answer

    5. You're absolutely right, san Carlos is a beautiful place. I've been there several times. Great fishing and food. I made the mistake of going there in July. The temperature reached 125 degrees Fahrenheit. Crazy hot... May is probably one of the best times to go.

    7. Hi Chivis, I have loved the State of Sonora since my 20s. The recent reports of violence there has been a concern for me in regards to travel. For this reason, I am glad to hear that San Carlos/ Guaymas still holds a sense of attraction. Thank you for the important work that you do in keeping us informed.

    8. @ 10:36 it’s the Salazar’s vs a BLO offshoot. This offshoot group is one one that killed the Salazar’s in San Carlos on the beach some time ago that had the Salazar family making threats to the police.

Chivis- That is a great area for a beach house. It’s a very friendly laid back area. Sonora Cecina is # 1

    9. 10:36 - I do not think this narcos fighting but kidnap or robery. Isidro and los jente de Isidro have Guaymas for many years.
10:39 many my friend and family and Saltillo, SLP and Sinaloa do not talk or WhatsAp to me about activity of the narcos for they believe there to be spy listening and watching the phone!

    10. MW everyone has to make their own decision. I have lived in a few cartel hotspots. Honestly there are few places I would not go. I am not a drinker, had a glass of wine maybe 4 years ago, no drugs, mind my business, don't ask questions, stay with family or resort areas. when my cousins say "only the narcos" they mean just that, mind your business and use obvious precautions and you will be fine. innocents being killed is rare. usually being in the wrong place.

We used to drive from the states and continue down to mochis, culi and if time allowed to jal. seeing fam along the way no mas. Flying is best. Hermosillo is where we fly in.

I traveled there each year since i was a small girl with my parents. those days it was not a problem driving up to the sierras to visit my mothers aunt. times have changed.

I would advise to take note of the state departments advisories. and one can call the consulate for the latest on violence.

and YES San Carlos can get HOT! and humid. but they have more good weather months than not.

  10. 14 year full time resident . . . Love it. Not doing drugs. Staying away from the hot spots. Beaches are a 10. Restaurants are a 10. Weather about an 8. Been full time 14 years and have seen the temp cross the 100 mark about one or two days a year... Never higher that 105. Humidity? That's another story. Friendly and caring people a solid 10. The same rules apply anywhere in the world, Don't be or do stupid. I've seen most of the planet and there is never any place I feel any safer than San Carlos.

  11. San carlos is amazing. Pretty much a secret and u dont get all the tourists partying cuz theyd rather to to rocky point then make the 6 hour drive through mex.
My family owns some property there.. pretty much all of it is right on the beach or a short walk and its alsays mellow only time ive seen it crazy is easter weekend people come from guaymas and hermosillo to party. Hes very hot in june and july and the water is like a jacuzzi, not cold like the pacific. The rest of the year is perfect. Growing up wed go every thanksgiving and new years and its not cold but just right.
A lot of americans living there maybe not a lot but enough seeing as its a small town. beaches never get busy. Food is great and violence is very rare and doesny effect civilians.
A lotta dolphins, great fishing and 2 marinas that are cheap if u wanna keep a boat. I havent been in so long but its always on my mind.

  13. Former San Carlos ResidentMarch 28, 2019 at 12:37 PM

Had a house in San Carlos for 30-40 years. Finally sold last year mostly because it was increasingly expensive and difficult to get there from southern California (reopen Guaymas airport, please!).

It's a shame to see violence increasing in the area. We never felt unsafe there, and crime did not play a part in our decision to sell. If you stay reasonably sober, be respectful, obey the laws, don't flash your wealth and don't get involved in buying or selling drugs, it's highly unlikely you're going to be the victim of a violent crime or kidnapping.

Tourism drives the economy there and it's unfair to paint the area as violent and unsafe, which drives away tourists. Our last trip down to clear out our house we were rather stunned at how empty the town was....and we thought it was due solely to unrealistic fears of widespread violence and crime driven by sensational media coverage (I'm looking at you, Fox News). It's driven away all the American tourists. Soggy Peso was empty every day, including weekends, when it should have been full.

The town needs tourism. It's safe there. Just don't be stupid.
