Archive: "Death is better than life in ADX Supermax" Says Warden

Chivis Martinez Borderland Beat  a republish of my previous post.

It is the home of the Unibomber, Green River Killer, Boston Bomber, The 9/11 conspirator, Atlanta Olympics Bomber and many other of the most notorious convicts. And consensus is that it is the probable upcoming home of Joquin “El Chapo” Guzman Loera, should he be convicted.

It is the U.S. Penitentiary Administrative Maximum Facility in Florence Colorado.  Built as the “Alcatraz of the Rockies”, escape proof with the highest security in the United States.  Built to house the worse of criminals.

Mexican narcos incarcerated in ADX:

Francisco Javier Arellano Felix (AFO) The life in prison sentence for former drug cartel leader Francisco Javier Arellano Félix has been reduced to 23 1/2 years because he’s provided crucial information to the government that has led to prosecutions in the U.S. and Mexico, according to federal court records.

Juan Garcia Abrego (CDG) serving 11 consecutive life  sentences

Osiel Cardenad Guillen (CDG) serving 25 year sentence pleading guilty, release date 2025

The Concrete Cell

Cells are a 12X7 foot structure. On the wall is a concrete platform for a black and white TV, which broadcasts closed circuit programming of classes and religious programming. It also has a built in radio.
  • There is a Stainless steel toilet/sink/water source combination.
  • A stationary concrete desk and stool sits in the cell
  • A slim 4” wide 40" high window has a view of the courtyard
  • Inside cell shower with a timer
  • A concrete slab bed

An enclosure within the cell with bars, used for added isolation and security Solid walls prevent prisoners from seeing other cells or having direct contact with other inmates.

Routine

The prison has 8 housing units that can accommodate up to 500 inmates. All food is presented though a slot through the door.  Inmates remain in cells for visits with clergy or physicians.  They are inside the cell in solitary confinement for 23 hours per day, with 10 hours a week for exercise inside a "cage".

Inmates have access to books and some magazines.

They have almost no human contact and can go days without speaking to anyone.

Former Warden Says Death Is Better Than Life In Supermax" in this video about the Boston Marathon Bomber, he was subsequently transferred to ADX.

A Look ahead:

I will be posting an article by the weekend also about ADX---but from the perspective of an inmate.  Through 100s of letters he wrote to a reporter we are able to get a different view of “life” in ADX

    2. Yeah but he wasn't in confinement in the Sierra's,could go out for fresh air anytime, could have multiple underage babes delivered to him, drank himself to sleep, unlimited reefers or other chemicals if desired.Even in Mexican jail he could have all those things. He will look back on his life and think he lived the greatest live ever and that many a man envied him ....or will he by comparison to what he has now.He will never have another woman again besides his wife and the list goes on but wait,he's had 2 years to adjust already so should be used to it by now(he's been celibate for what 2 years now) but oh what a switch from having everything to having nothing. They say the more you have ($$) the harder you fall. They also say your health is way more important than money so hopefully Chapo lives to a ripe old with plenty of time to reflect.Even if he lives to 100 and only reflects on 10 murders a day that he ordered he can't possibly go through them all.Chapo you made your bed now it's time to lie down in it (and no disappearing behind shower partitions).

    3. Hiding with prostitutes and partying, he also wasn't there for years.

    4. he will probably scream and cry the first few days but he’ll be alright, he has no choice. If a tree falls in the forest with no one around does it make noise? The sight of a guard will be like a witnessing a Holy Ghost.

    5. Not sure if you know but being out in the mountains is the opposite of being inside a box in the mountains your free as a bird in a box you don’t have nothing but time but he did the crime now he does the time

  9. Not gonna lie I wouldn’t mind life in Superman anyway looking at a walll wouldn’t mean shit to me anyway, not a narco or anything but man I would have loved to live the life Chapo lived back in the 80s and 90s the traveling the big parties the gold guns and let’s not forget the women,Even if I knew it was gonna end at some point Atleast I lived it, I ain’t even a keyboard warrior so I ain’t gonna talk shit or hate on anybody, but damn Chapo was a living legend.Me personally I wouldn’t have cared if I lived that life if I died or spend life in a cell better then the shitty ones us average joe have,go to school, get a degree, get a job,get married,10 years later the wife cheats and leaves you and takes the kids and half of everything you got,mid life crisis, alcoholic and pretty much just stressed out but that’s life I guess.

I worked, did everything ‘right’, got married, my husband stole my money, now I’m sitting here preparing papers for another court date (yes with a drink in hand) Supermax would feel like a welcome break

  12. If you had saw the cabin that the Unabomber had lived in for years you would know that ADX supermax is a major upgrade for him. He now has power, heat & air, running water, indoor bath, food, medical care and tv. He's never had it so good. In fact, he has said had he known it was going to be this nice, he would have ratted himself out years ago.

  14. For those saying Chapo did not go out guns blazing! He did it to avoid collateral damage to the civilians. El Señor always respected the general population.
Gente Nueva Special Forces made up of a 300 team of ex Delta Force ,Navy Seals team 6 and Mossad agents, armed to the teeth and trained in the art of guerilla warfare was ready to open the gates of hell to make sure he was not captured .At the end El Señor said to me avoiding innocents deaths is more important than my life .I admired his act of self sacrifice .Ni modo la palabra del Patron se respeta .

  15. Don't be surprised if Chapo beats the rap. New Yorkers have an affinity and soft spot for crime bosses like Lucky Luciano, Carlos Gambino and the Teflon Don. The jail their went crazy when the corn and bean farmer from the rugged mountains of Sinaloa arrived in town. Cmon NY do Chapo a solid and make a statement. Lets not kid ourselves when it's inherently evident that US Govt, DEA, Trump are just as corruped as the MX Gvt. Like Michael Corleone said, "who is being naive when you say governments don't kill people." Inquisitive mind wonder who killed Tupac, Biggie, JFK, MLK, Malcolm X and President Abe. Y arriba mi Sinaloa vale...

    1. The Teflon Don got a life sentence and complained of bumps around his throat for 4 months before the guards let him see a doctor and by that time he had stage 4 cancer. New York isn’t as easy peezy as you say.

    2. I don’t think anyone believes there is a govt with no corruption. The US has corruption, but not “just as corrupt” as MX. The US definitely had done a lot of dirty shit mostly in/to other countries. It’s known. I know many Mexicans want to say the US is just as bad but it isn’t. You can’t compare the US to MX. The shit that is normal and accepted by citizens in MX will never be accepted in the US. It might happen here but it won’t spread and go unpunished as it does in MX.

Sorry to burst your bubble but the US will never match Mexico’s corruption. You see Mexicans fleeing to the US not Americans fleeing to MX. That right there should tell you something.

    5. People have been making that claim of Mencho being raped. I don’t think it’s true. This guy is the head of CJNG. Had he been sodomized I’m more than sure he would’ve already dealt with that rapist on the outside. There’s always an abundance of hitters willing to come at you for any infraction. And payback for rape would’ve been recorded on video by now. That’s the new norm now with cartels. - Sol Prendido

  25. After a year or two Chapo will be like a zombie, but will be used to the isolation.

His first year will be hard though. The walls do start to move and time gets all messed up. Sleep during the day and up all night. I’m pretty sure the lights in his cell stay on all the time too.

I’ve been in isolation many times and it sucks. It’s like being on acid after a few days. But in most prisons you can yell to other inmates on your tier or pod. In the Super Max zero contact with anyone except the guards (3 shifts),med call and Clergy.

His first month he will feel like he’s losing his mind. And he deserves it.

    Have fun, Chapo!

  29. He should be thankful I mean he gets to watch religious channels in black and white ffs!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Regarding Arellano bloodline pulling strings in Tijuana: I would say no. All 5 brothers are dead or in US Custody. Fernando Sanchez is in custody in Mexico. The women in the family, although having knowledge of their brother’s criminal activity, were not involved in the operations of the organization.

Norma Ruth Serrano-Corona, Benjamin’s second wife, did try to drum up support for Benjamin while he was in custody at Altiplano. Ruth and Benjamin forged alliances with the Gulf Cartel and Zetas. Osiel Cardenas and Benjamin became friends at Altiplano.

Benjamin’s son, Frank Xavier, was Benjamin and Ruth’s choice to run the AFO. Ruth had a group of Benjamin loyalists who were trying to gain control of the Plaza from Javier while protecting Frank at the same time. One of those guys has been in the Tijuana Press lately – Ivan Martin Del Campo-Reibling. This group was dismantled due to US arrests and death by Javier’s men.

There are other AFO loyalists out there who have now joined the Jalisco group like Manuel Ivanovich Zambrano-Flores and his cousin Adolfo Perez-Zambrano. However, many have been executed in the past few years or are laying low.

    1. Ivan Martin Del Campo-Reibling AKA Cobra Commander. He’s constantly running his mouth in his videos. Here lately he actually threatened Marro (Sledgehammer). Very weird considering Marro’s people are recording videos of their kills. I get the impression he wants to get wiped out. Seems like his confidence comes from what’s obviously his steroid intake. I’m surprised the Cobra Commander is still around. I’d say it’s just a matter of time before he gets snuffed. - Sol Prendido

  31. 9:38. I appreciate the insight Steve. I am from Tijuana and to be honest that once powerful AF cartel is just nostalgia among the local community. Similar to Pablo in Medellin. Its a new era here. What I dont comprehended
and boggles my mind is how a loyal woman will go to extreme depths to protect and keep flourishing her man's illegal racket empire. Benjamin's wife must of known that her husband was exporting deadly narcotics by the tons on top of heading/running a transnational drug mafia that left a trail of dead bodies. My aunt's friend worked in a money exchange house in San Ysidro back in the late 80s and Ruth was her co worker. My aunt mentioned that Ruth was a beautiful young lady that came from a religious catholic family. It just confirms once again that not all, but most women will always crave a dangerous powerful dark triad man and will stand by his side regardless of the repercussions.
