Summary: High-ranking leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and Los Cuinis, José González Valencia, may be extradited to the United States from Brazil this year. He was arrested in December 2017 after traveling from Bolivia to Brazil for vacation. Please visit his Wikipedia page for more information on the case. And from Borderland Beat archives use this link.

Mexican drug lord José González Valencia has been in prison in Brazil for a year. The 43-year-old, identified by the Brazilian Federal Police (PF) as the leader of Los Cuinis, is still detained in Brazil, but the decision on his extradition to the United States awaits trial by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) .

The extradition process was approved by minister judge Celso de Mello on December 11. The last move of the process was to carry out a legal diligence, which was done earlier that month. In the United States, 'Chepa', 'Camarón' or 'Santy' (nicknames for which González Valencia is known) is accused of international drug trafficking. The Mexican national continues behind bars in the Federal Penitentiary of Mossoró, in Rio Grande do Norte while Brazilian authorities wait for his transfer.

The extradition of 'Chepa' was requested by the United States government on June 14, 2017, when the American intelligence received information on his travels into Brazilian territory. The PF found that, at least since 2015, Brazil has become a frequent destination for him and his family. They came three times in this period. However, there is no information on any criminal activities while he was in Brazil.

Arrest in Ceará

Above is one of those houses in Brazil where González Valencia was arrested in the afternoon of December 27, 2017. He was driving to a water park in Aquiraz with his family when ten federal police identified the man wanted by the police of the United States and Mexico. The suspect tried to present a false document with the name Jafett Arias Becerra, issued in Bolivia, but was taken to the Federal Police's Regional Superintendence in Ceará, in the neighborhood of Fátima, in Fortaleza, where he remained in custody until March of this year, when he was transferred for the Federal Penitentiary System.

According to the PF, the international trafficker entered Brazil through São Paulo, and then traveled to Fortaleza on the same day. He landed in the capital of Ceará with a couple of friends and waited for the arrival of his wife and six children on the 26th. 'Chepa', through a laranja (Brazilian Portuguese word for "strawperson"), rented four luxury condos in one of most famous beaches of Ceará, Taíba, in São Gonçalo do Amarante. The property usually hosts large parties. It was there that he intended to spend New Year's Eve and leave only on January 3, 2018.

The Mexican defense lawyer, affiliated with the Brazilian Bar Association Pará Section, was not available for comment.

    4. Maybe if people decide they don't want to snort that shit up their nose every 5min then there would be no need for the cartels.

    5. ridiculous assumption my friend! the first products were alcohol during the prohibition period. Bootleggers. Zetas brought diversification to the table. they would which to that and still have some black market drugs.

Interestingly, the customer base would change, it would no longer be outside Mexico, with diversification there would have home-based customers such as knock offs and oil and victims for the remaining diversification, such as extortion, kidnapping etc

    9. 11:09 It's not users fault that suppliers(not just in drugs, but sweatshops, farms, huge corporations, etc.) choose to act like pieces of shit. If you never bought anything that was made off the suffering of others you'd be wearing a Tarzan get up in the middle of the forest, living off the land. You have to pick your battles.

This guy won’t be in jail too long he’s one of the richest Narcos in Mexico he’ll for sure get a good lawyer they can’t even say he’s committed murder or drug trafficked only washed money I don’t even think there’s anybody that can rat him out with proof he’ll maybe end up paying a couple million and serve a single digit sentence and be home free

  10. If the Americans seriously want him and the Mexicans might hand him over, this guy’s life might be in jeopardy.
    Dead men tell no tales.
A money laundering cartel guy with no blood on his hands but who knows where all the money is going to?
I wouldn’t trade places with him.
He will never make it to America.
The Mexicans will let him escape or drop the charges or they will allow him to be murdered in prison, but he will never make it to America.

  11. Fake id's just aren't enough anymore. Its the electronic age. Your picture can be spread to any device making at easy as looking in your pocket and comparing your mugshot on the spot. Even less developed countries now have portable fingerprint scan and facial recognition systems. Now I'm sure criminals can still find ways to circumvent those systems, but it's a lot harder.

  15. He's a second Generation capo so you know he's all business.. he's not new to this like people might think. Michoacanos dont like all that attention so their not known to the average person. Only the ones that follow the drug game would know that michoacanos are heavy hitters with many influences world wide.. this guy has only 2 corridos but don't say much, just how he's from michoacan and how he's humble and..average michoacano corrido.
It's not going to be easy to extradite this fellow if he even is.. many south America counties don't let the Americans get extradition in their country. Just saying...
