El Chapo Trial: What made Chapo tear up

Chivis Martinez Borderland Beat

El Paso 2010
Agents testimony; more drugs and weapons

Today was not an earth shattering day in court.  No Cooperative witnesses, there was a ATF agent who gave testimony how various weapons works.

With a backdrop of a cart filled with AK-47 rifles in the courtroom. The agent explained how a  RPG works, demonstrating by using a real launcher and grenade. When he laid down the weapon on the jury box, a female juror inches away looked horrified.

The agent gave a meticulous description of how easily a legally purchased semi-auto AK-47 can be converted to full-auto. Saying it only takes a few seconds,  with "a simple hand file." Or with a $15 part and a drill: "Five minutes total you've got a very reliable machine gun."

Two additional witnesses today were from the Colombian National Police. They testified about finding 403 cocaine bricks, 49 40-mm grenades, and 3 anti-tank RPG grenades in a small plane at an airport in the city of Ipiales. Still unclear exactly how these are connected to Chapo.

The return of cell-gate

The gift that keeps on giving.  Cell-Gate

You may recall I said the only defense party who did not submit a statement denying facilitating communication between Chapo and Emaa, was Ms. Colon.

The government says that Emma was in the cafeteria sending messages to Mariel Colon while Colonl was with Chapo on another phone in an attorney conference room.

But Judge Cogan found that likely did not happen.

The allegation is that Mariel Colon, gave a cellphone to Emma Coronel and then went to meet privately with Chapo with another cellphone. Colon denies this. But she also took the fifth when Cogan asked her about the allegations.

While Judge Cogan says there's not enough to evidence to prove the claim that Colon facilitated contact, he said her conduct shows "a flagrant disregard for the court's rules." She's no longer allowed to have a cellphone in the courthouse.

Hopefully this buries Cell-Gate once and for all.

Emma and Chapo’s twin daughters

After a three day court absence, Emma Coronel returned with a special gift for Chapo, their 7 year old twins daughters.

A couple of minutes after starting the trial on Thursday, Emma Coronel, Maria Joaquina and Emali made their appearance in the courtroom. The girls wore matching white jackets and their hair decked out with festive glittery bows, grabbed the attention of all in the courtroom, not the least of all their father.  Chapo actually stood up as they entered waving at the girls.

The father paid little attention to the witness giving testimony, turning fully to his left to send air kisses to his young daughters.

The typically undemonstrative defendant, was reportedly unable to contain his emotions as his eyes filled with tears. Defense attorney Eduardo Balarezo patted Chapo’s shoulder in an attempt to comfort him.

Mexican press reports that reporters, who sit in the first row in front of Emma’s spot, actually created a space as to not obstruct Chapo’s view of his children.

This simple act of love of a father towards his children, humanizes him in a way few other things are able.

And in full view of the jury.

And that is all for my Chapo Trial Coverage for 2018----

Back at it next year! January 3, 2019

This isn’t México and I can guarantee you his wannabe special forces ain’t no were near. They are probably using all their resource defending his 2 older daughters in Culiacan. They need all the help they can get. That plaza is getting hot out there. Guano wants a share n well Chapo Isidro hates their guts.

    10. 7:25....word is Mayo has Guano, Chapitos, AND Isidro in check together. They're all in to take down CJNG. If true, that alliance along with some of the Golfos, will give Mencho a run for his money. Let's sit back, and see it play out. But if Mayo has the Guzman's, and Mazatlecos with him, it'll be tough for even Mencho and CJNG to stop them. Chapo is gone..The rest know they are better United. CJNG like the Zetas had a meteoric rise, but like any business that grows too fast, the foundation can fracture just as rapidly as it sets up. JMO

    11. 7:26....I have no sympathy for Chapo, or any other of these Traffickers..That said, I do have a fundamental problem with human, and legal rights violations. Our justice system is based on the suspects right to be innocent until Proven guilty, and afforded due process, and the right to a fair trial. The US has violated nearly everyone of these rights. Their case is more than strong enough to convict. So, why jeapordize a slam dunk case by giving talented lawyers, a chance to raise reasonable doubt, and a chance to get the conviction overturned during appeals because they pushed too hard depriving him his rights to a fair trial. Not to mention coddling CW's who are more guilty of crimes committed in the US than Chapo. I really hope he drops dimes on the Gov officials in both countries. He had lots of help. JMO

    13. Sinaloa is scared so the litle girls had to get together before cjng goes in and takes their sh!t lol. If you so called KNOW IT ALLS here knew any better, you would know that ALL Damasos people joined cjng. Damasos people are in sinaloas still with help from cjng. Cds groupies are all talking out their NAchas like always. There is no truce in snitchaloa lol you guys wish. Mayo is not the big man all his corridos claim to be, hes just good at hiding but NEVER took a plaza, he funding marro and cholo but hes not into control like mencho who takes plazas. All you dumb dumbs need to keep it real

With that said, I can only imagine what could be going on in the mind and heart of chapo seeing his daughters. Thay brief moment of happiness quickly engulfed with the harsh reality of facing his crimes. The latter part of his life alone would make an incredible bio picture.

  4. If one can be sad for Guzman, it's only for him having thrown away a life with family. But of course how many families has he destroyed through the murders, and the 'untold' deaths from the posions he's trafficked in?

    1. I don't think he forced a single person to snort or shoot up, or smoke anything. People make their own choices on what poisons we put in our bodies. I am a recovering addict and the narcos are the last ppl I blame in fact, the only person to blame is sitting in the mirror every day. He chose the life and it makes the very few human moments he has shown, all the more compelling. Anyone can take the easy road and shoot down anything about chapo. The guys emotional about seeing his daughters in a court room. Who wouldn't??

      Delete
    2. The people who's life you say he poisoned, poisoned themselves. Addicts are willing motivated customers. No one born after the 1950's can claim they didn't know that it only takes some 1 hit, or dose of any of these hard drugs, will in all likelihood end up broke, dead, or in prison. Stop only blaming the suppliers. The biggest problem is our fellow human's enormous appetite for DRUGS..These guys are no more guilty than Big Pharma, Alcohol distillers, or Tabbacco producers. JMO

Its easy to bash and damn chapo from a far. Burn in hell he may, but right now here on earth, hes got to deal with his choices and the legacy he has left. Some of his children have already decided their fate. Thats the compelling aspect of all this.

    1. That comment doesn't make you a smart guy. This is a blog run by volunteers. They post stories by others after authenticating content, and sources. Chivis and the other contributors work tirelessly to bring us Real News about the Mexican DTO's and their stories. If you don't like the site, go elsewhere. Trolling volunteers, who have more integrity than you obviously have makes you look like an ignorant keyboard wannabe know it all tough guy. I stress the wannabe. If you are in the "know", then educate us guey....If not, go somewhere else. BB is a legit source for all things narco related. The staff here is way more connected and in the "know", than any other sources I've found. Happy Holidays to you Amigo, perhaps Santa will bring you some social Grace, and help you through whatever makes you so miserable that you must criticize volunteers trying to educate us all, and hopefully aid in ending the senseless violence, and crime. I'll pray for you.

  26. Just remember what your poor excuse for a son did to that innocent canadian girl in 2004, for the “””””crime””””” of having rejected his advances. Ivan Guzmán, the aforementioned poor excuse for a son you have, ruthlessly killed her because of that.

That was a move worthy of a Zeta cockroach, not something i would expect from men of the Sinaloa cartel. That’s something you should be ashamed of and cry over. But then again, the whole narrative that you guys are some kind of narco gentlemen has always been an enormous bullshit, you just have (had) better connections which allowed you guys to look more respectable while doing the exact same things.

Now it’s all over, enjoy your days behind the bars, waiting for the grim reaper. The next will be El Menchito Putito, he will fall even harder than you, for being such a gigantic pedazo de mierda.

    Sincerely,

    1. Is there any proof she died cuz of that or is it just the media throwing dirt on Ivan’s name?

    2. @1:17 PM

“Technically” it was El Anima the one who pulled the trigger, but Ivan was the one who had her killed, they were in the same car and El Anima basically was Ivan’s lapdog. They both had been recognized by witnesses and when the canadian girl rejected Ivan a fight broke out between the man who was with her and Ivan and El Anima, which in turn led El Chapo’s son and his lapdog to their revenge. Like i said, no better than a Zeta. And it makes my blood boil since i have a daughter who is the same age as that girl was at the time. Unfortunately her father, being a canadian with no connections nor power in Mexico (on top of certainly not being able to deal with the kind of sick fucks we have here, i mean growing up in Guerrero, Michoacán or Tamaulipas is an entirely different ball game) couldn’t do anything about it.

Awww everyone needs to feel sad because Chapo saw his twins...what about the thousands who were killed either by his hand or with his blessing? What about all of the drug addicts whose lives are ruined because of that trash they constantly consume...What about innocents who were caught in the middle and died...and wer're supposed to feel sad because seeing his daughters brought him to tears? At least you saw your daughters alive Chapito. You saw them well and not dead...His daughters will be alive for Christmas unlike some of his victims...In all honesty...I think this whole case is bullshit..I think Chapo is safe and sound and out of prison...why not show his face live? Why not have a camera in the room like OJ, Michael Jackson and others...I swear ..people are so gullible and stupid....
