80 Policemen Investigated for Aggressions in "San Juanico"

Translated by Yaqui for Borderland Beat from: El Sol

Tlalnepantla, Mexico
The trustee Alberto González Aguilar said that the Tlalnepantla police had failed to intervene and a "tremendous vacuum" was left by Mayor Ugalde Alegría, who practically abandoned the inhabitants of those communities and did not show up during the conflict.

The Citizens accuse the authorities of "abuse of power and aggression" after a patrol showed up looking for four delinquents who had robbed a gas station near Gustavo A Maduro.

Another version says young hooded men looted a Bodega Aurrera. Some nearby neighbors grabbed shopping carts from the paring area and went to retrieve merchandise ditched by the thieves and return it to the store; shouting '' San Juanico No Es Rateros" !

800 police persons , 400 of them Federal Police used tear gas against the protesting citizenry and hauled off burning vehicles with tow trucks that were used to block the highway for nearly 2 days after the confrontation with policemen.

The mayor Denisse Ugalde Alegría assured that policemen of the City of Mexico violated the municipal autonomy when entering the colonies San Juan Ixhuatepec and Hills of San Juan Ixhuatepec, in the East Zone of the municipality, the reason why she issued a pronouncement in which she condemns the events, which took place on the night of November 11.

The members of the Political Coordination Board of the Legislature of the State of Mexico asked that the omission on the part of the Municipal police corporations of Tlalnepantla and state security be investigated and sanctioned, because they neglected public order in San Juan Ixhuatepec, endangering the life of the inhabitants.

In a meeting held yesterday, the deputies spoke in relation to the events that took place during the November 11 police operation in the Colonia known as San Juanico,  in the municipality of Tlalnepantla, which led to "police abuse" by elements of the police.

The Secretary of Security of the City of Mexico went against the settlers, generating even loss of goods and the obstruction of traffic up to 20 hours of the Mexico-Pachuca highway as the people blockaded the Highway, a main artery of transport.

Bullet injured, Érika Ávila Rosales, resident of Lomas de San Juan Ixhuatepec, was shot in the right arm by a firearm, when he appeared to ask the police not to destroy a motorcycle owned by a relative.

He was also injured by bullet: David Pérez Cisneros, 39, who remains in the hospital Magdalena de las Salinas, with a wound in the abdomen.

One couple in the initial confrontation claimed to be beat up by at least 40 police when they tried to leave their house to go buy groceries to make their kids school lunches for the next day.
