Playa del Carmen: Details still cloudy in Blue Parrot shooting

Alejandra Villanueva Ibarra, Denver Colorado,  trampled to death
Reports from the ground and in the media are insisting the shooting was cartel related.  Authorities say it is the work of a lone gunman.  Details are slow to be forthcoming. Including the number of dead, between 5 and 8, and the number injured, between 12 and 18.

Injured American Heather Parham
College student Alejandra Villanueva Ibarra, 18 from Denver, was trampled to death in the chaos following the outbreak of gunfire.

“She was talking about how she was having so much fun and can’t wait to come back home and tell us everything about her vacation,” her brother told the DailyMail of their phone conversation just a couple hours before his sister's death.

Alejandra was in Mexico taking a break from working hard in college, as well as looking after two younger siblings when she was tragically killed.

Festival organizer Kirk Wilson, (below) who is originally from Canada, is believed to have been killed along with three security guards, according to local reports.

Beautiful Playa del Carmen, has long been considered one of the most popular and safe places for tourists to visit in Mexico.  The last thing authorities want is bad press that would hinder tourism. Residents of Playa del Carmen have placed flowers, candles and cartulina (poster) signs outside the Blue Parrot nightclub, reading 'Peace in Playa', 'No more pistols', and translated from Spanish;

“'Enough already,  so much corruption and impunity'.

A Houston man, Ignacio Valencia, who was shot in both arms while trying to escape, had been hanging out with Alejandra after meeting her at the festival, he wrote this on his Facebook page:

Trip Advisor and other travel websites,  lists the Blue Parrot as one of the best in Playa del Carmen for “nightlife”.

  2. Think this guy who was hanging around with the victim is looking to profit from this with a Go Fund Me . Nevertheless it's sad for what has transpired at the club. But then again violence is everywhere. Prayers for the families and victims

    1. Narco related? And any place else this is an angry patron killing the security guards for not letting him in?

    2. Then of course if this guy was kicked out the club by security guards then he would have a reason to attack them at gun point. I'm not saying narcos much less Zetas are saints but this could well could have been a personal issue.

    3. Very good point Chivis. This is typical Z operations. The obvious assumption is that the club did not pay and this is what happened. The local media will be quite about this since they are also under their extortion cloud.

  6. Apparently the Narco's want a a cut of something they did not create. What a shame this is happening all over Mexico. Mexico cannot move forward and flourish at all levels, until they put a stop to this. Start with getting the corruption out of government from all levels to make things better who also get a cut from the violence, extortion and kidnappings.

    ReplyDelete
  7. The event organizer from Canada got killed with security guards so it was most likely a cartel that didn't get their cut. Most businesses in Mexico have to give taxes to cartel or they get killed. That's the reason so many people in Mexico that owned a small shop decided to shut down. They take a big chunk of money from them. Real spit

    1. @10:38 Perception is not always the reality. Many years ago I was considering running for office in the state legislator and I went to visit with a old political pro who I guess every candidate touched base with before they filed. I asked him how did it race I was considering look. His answer was very simple. "It depends on which direction you are looking". I knew his perception of my chances were the same as mine. I din't run.

When I asked my now wife (Mexican) to marry me I asked her if she wanted to live in the US or in Mx. She didn't hesitate before saying Mexico. I asked her why and she said Norte Americanos are not friendly and they are rude, that there was too much violence there - drive by shootings, mothers killing their babies and too much drug usage.
So it kind of looks like our perceptions depends on which direction your are looking. North or South.

Estimado Chivis. Nuestros turistas quieren drogas legales. Los Méxicanos quieren seguridad. Esto es confusión.

  20. Supposedly this was the work of the Old School Zetas. A banner was hung which read:

“Esto es una muestra de que ya estemos aquí fue por no alinearte. Phillip BPM. Es el inicio vamos a cortar las cabezas de Golfos, Pelones y chapulines. El Fayo Z Vieja Escuela”

It is being said that "El Fayo" is Rafael del Ángel Vélez Morales, who was arrested in May 2009. At the time he was reported to be the head of the plaza of Cancun for the Gulf Cartel.

    7. @8:03 You make a good point about the possibility of a fake manta to burn an enemy group. Believe me I pick and choose my words carefully, when I said "Supposedly" in the back of my mind I was already considering the possibility that it was actually an enemy of the Old School Zetas writing the banner. So much smoke and mirrors when it comes to banners and messages.

Fyi, the whole comment of being convinced I'm a lady gave me a good laugh. That is definitely not the case and not the first time it's come up online. In the past some people think it sounds feminine but don't take the time to look into the origin of the name Itzli.

She has baby girl who I love like she were my own...So that is one of the reasons why I am still trying to help her....Right now in rehab she is taking some classes to get her education done, I own a business that operates over there...and I made a deal with her. (I have kept my word so far) That if she stays clean, goes to her meetings daily when she gets out, and takes care of her baby girl. I will set up shop in her city and she can be my business partner...In the mean time I am talking care of her daughter and her grandma. Its a long story, and if I had not lived it I would not believe it if some one told me..my best friend that is a writer/author has told me that I should write a book about it...Long story short through a series of events... I met a hooker in Cancun, who is now like my baby sister.(Unofficially Adopted)LOL She says that I am her Guardian Angel and taught her alot, the truth is that I have been enlightened and have learned more about life and humanity since meeting her than I did in my 35 years of life. She has at least 3 more months to go. God willing once we get her set up I may just sell or gift my business, and go work for a non-profit for Women and kids, I dunno. We see...
