FBI cracks down on Border corruption

Posted by DD republished from KTAR News, Arizonas News Station

Thanks to BB reader Tu Fren for the tip.

PHOENIX — The Federal Bureau of Investigation is launching a campaign to urge citizens to keep an eye out for possibly corrupt officials working on the U.S. border.

To get its message to the public, the FBI created a public service announcement along with the Department of Homeland Security that will be shown in certain cities including Phoenix.

“Every day at America’s borders, drugs, weapons and even people are illegally smuggled into our country,” FBI Special Agent Alfredo Duron says in the video.

Duran goes on to say that some border agents are letting the smugglers get away with it.
“Some public servants, sworn to protect our borders, are turning a blind eye and lining their pockets,” he said.

The PSA calls on citizens to speak up if they notice anything fishy when they are at a border checkpoint.

“If you live near, work at, or cross the border, you can be our eyes and ears,” Duran said in the PSA.

“When you witness public corruption, don’t turn a blind eye. Report it to the FBI.”

The PSA said the FBI’s top criminal priority is to take down “these corrupt federal officials.”

The border awareness campaign is targeting 10 FBI field offices  whose areas of responsibility include U.S. ports of entry such as border crossings, airports, and seaports. The cities aside from Phoenix are Buffalo, Detroit, El Paso, San Antonio, Fargo, Los Angeles, San Diego, Miami and Seattle.

    3. I know they're not meaning to be ironic, but "“When you witness public corruption, don’t turn a blind eye. Report it to the FBI" is the most ironic thing on the internet today.

Thanks as always dd and BB for bringing us a bit of truth along with all the irony.

    4. DD your reply is very rude. It was just a question.some times when you read an article you make the mistake to overlook certain parts of the article, what it wrong with asking a question.

    5. @10:33 Please accept my apology for being rude. But when I have to moderate between 100 and 200 comments everyday I get aggravated when "readers" comments reflect that they have not even read a story. I try to make sure every post, whether mine or some other reporter shows the source for the story. Everyone makes a mistake sometimes and I should not have taken my frustrations out on you for making a mistake and not seeing the source of the story.

    11. DD . I really like this site and believe you guy are doing a good job . Often I ad something that dont get published . I assume it offends somebody or the person that decides weather to post it of not thinks people may get offended . I sometimes may post something that I think may cause a "spirited debate" and it gets left out . On this subject matter of this article , it had to happen . Change has to come about . I don't know if this would have happened if Clinton won the election but I don't think it would . Not a big Trump fan because of the obvious reasons . Still I voted for him . I have said this several times on this website and it never gets posted but I will say it again . Trump will Bring Them To Heel .

    12. That's exactly why we are we are now. Snitches Deserves stitches crap. The only ones who use and reference to this are ones involved in some way or another in shady activities. Unfortunately your policy or code is stupid. Turning a blind eye to everything that's been happening out here now is why it's all messed up. Unfortunately we know we're your values stand. U have none : that is your problem. U have blinded yourself with nonsense. That's why society is messed up. It's people like you that give us a bitter taste to many. Educate yourself to the reality of your actions because it all has consequences. Better yet pick up a book and read. Enlighten your mind my brothers

    13. @10:54 I do delete many comments because they are offensive or just gross and crude. But based on your comment here I don't think that is why your comments didn't get published.

BB has a policy of not publishing comments about US political issues (especially about the elections). Your comment "Trump will Bring Them To Heel" and you belief that change would not come about if Clinton had won is to me an expression of your political views. After Trump becomes Pres. if he does something to bring about change such as "bringing to heel" corruption on the border, then that is something we can talk about. I have allowed some comments about the "wall" he says he is going to build only because Chivis asked for comments about what readers thought about it.

I appreciate you being a long time reader and your kind words I hope you continue participating in the discussions. If you ever disagree with a decision we make about not publishing your comments feel free to email me at the address at the top of the page and we can discuss it.

Second: you find no correlation between this move and incoming president Donald? You cannot recall FBI being the organization many claim caused Hilary to lose?

Conclusion: seems as if the FBI is jockeying for expanded power at expense of other agencies luke rhe BP and civil liberties.

    1. @5:44 I don't agree with your conclusion. As to your first supposition, I suggest you watch the video again. It is not asking for help securing the border, it is asking for help in catching corrupt federal employees which is it's responsibility. Second, no I don't see any connection to Hilary or Trump in the FBI trying to catch corrupt federal employees. As to your conclusion that the FBI is "jockeying for expanded power at expense of other agencies", the FBI already has the power to investigate corruption regardless of what agency those misdeeds are being performed.

      Delete
    2. In a nut shell 5:44 the FBI is the chief law enforcement agency in the US. So they already have enough power on US soil. The only way they expand their power is if they become more international like Interpol. Believe me when I say the FBI is pretty dang powerful.

  16. It should be everyone's best interest to tip of any wrong doings. Terrorisim is real and Europe and other parts of the world are now dealing with this. Besides if it can make an impact to the illegal activities these cartels control . Why not.
Tired . As a Hispanic in America we have been branded, stereotyped negatively due to the activities of these individuals. Destroying the foundations for which many come . Hard work, decent wage for a better life, education for our children. Unfortunately many Hispanics have given us a bitter taste to many. I will always encourage a strong border. America is my home, Safety is my priority for me and family.
Many Hispanic coleuges ask how can one be so unsympathetic to his own people. And reply with one simple question: would you allow any stranger in your home ? Well America is our home.

    1. @7:28 DHS rules and regs now require all new applicants to take a polygraph and all existing agents to take one on a random basis (they never know when they will have to take one). But with over 21,000 agents even random testing is a huge job.

      Delete
    2. Polygraphs aka "lie detectors" are easy to beat if you know what you are doing. All the poly's do is measure your body's response to questioning. Breath rate, sweating, heart rate and body movements are clues they look for. I have taken 6 polygraphs in my lifetime and I have been deceptive on every one of them. The deception was never discovered on either one. If I can learn how to deceive the wavy lines then anybody can learn the deceptive methods. There was one polygraph in particular where I was extremely deceptive and the polygraph examiner wanted to start over because he didn't like the way I was breathing. I told him it was because of my asthma. I adjusted my breathing to his liking and I passed with flying colors. This guy was a former co-worker and the best examiner I had ever encountered because he picked up on my breathing technique. He also knew about my asthma because I had worked with him for 5 years and it didn't dawn on him that he was being hustled. After the poly he explained to me why he wanted to start over. Basically he said people try to beat the poly by holding or pausing their breathing. Then he said I know you wouldn't do that so I decided to start over. Almost caught but no winner chicken dinner.

  33. @5:27 You said "corruption exists everywhere...not just the border...the FBI should know that" By your logic since corruption is more wide spread than just border, they should not try to catch the bad agents working the border. When my son was about 15 that is how he got in trouble for something he did (every one else is doing it so you shouldn't punish me).
As to your question as to how many FBI agents "caught selling info to the Chinese and or Russians???". While I do not use Wikipedia for a source in writing a story, for this purpose (quick search) it will do. It shows a total of 9 FBI agents with a criminal conviction.
