Alleged gang leader’s mother held by self-defense group pleads with son to release kidnap victim

Posted by DD from material at Mexico News Daily and Daily Mail

Residents of a town in Guerrero declared themselves in self-defense mode on Sunday Dec. 11th.  A sign at a rally  In Valle de Luz  contained a message addressed to the governor and President Enrique Peña Nieto advising that the town was tired of the executions, kidnappings and extortion carried out by Los Tequileros.

“. . . today we have decided to defend our families and our lives and our property with our own hands.”

By the following day on Monday the newly formed self defense group had rounded up about 20 people in the community who were alleged to have been collaborating with the drug gang that had been terrorizing the residentsIncluded in that group was  the mother of the alleged leader of the criminal gang,  Raybel Jacobo de Almonte,  also known as El Tequilero.

Los Tequileros.
We have your mother here, Mr Tequilero,' she said. 'I propose an exchange: I'll give you your mother if you give me my husband, but I want him safe and sound.'
“We’ve got his mom,” said the wife of an engineer who was kidnapped late Sunday afternoon in Valle de Luz, where citizens promptly rallied in response and declared they would mount an armed defense against the Tequileros gang.  .

The wife of Isauro de Paz Duque told a press conference that the gang had threatened to kill her husband, but “we have his mother here, the mother of the man called El Tequilero.”

She offered to exchange Raybel Jacobo de Almonte’s mother for her husband before tearfully accusing Guerrero Governor Héctor Astudillo of turning a blind eye to crime in the municipality and declaring him responsible.

Things got really bizarre today when self defense group released a video of El Tequilero's mother asking him to release the kidnapped engineer de Paz Duque.  The newsmagazine Zeta Tijuana described this week’s developments as one of the strangest chapters in Mexico’s drug war

mother of tequilero pleading with son
“Please let him go, son,” was the message sent today in a 18 second  video  in which María Félix de Almonte made the request  to her son, Raybel Jacobo de Almonte,

“My son, if you have the engineer hand him over, please . . . if you have him I’ll trust that you will deliver him . . . do it, please,” the woman told her son, who is also known as El Tequilero.

Yesterday, the wife of the kidnapped architect and contractor, Isauro de Paz Duque, told a press conference in the town of Valle de Luz that the drug gang leader’s mother would be released in exchange for freeing her husband.

The Guerrero Coordination Group, which consists of representatives of federal and state police and the Army, has sent in 220 agents to search for the kidnapping victim.

Last month the state government said it believed that El Tequilero had been wounded and was hiding in the mountains with his kidnapping victims. But Army troops and helicopters called in to search for the cartel boss were unsuccessful.

El Tequilero' has lived up to his nickname, which translates roughly as 'The Tequila Drinker.'

In his only known public appearance, he was captured on video drinking with the town's mayor-elect.(in white hat) He mumbles inaudibly and has to be held up in a sitting position by one of his henchmen.

reported that El Tequilero has practically been in control of the municipality for years. Yesterday, the sister of the kidnapped businessman told Milenio Televisión that residents are at the mercy of the gang because there is no authority policing and protecting the area.
Citizens of the region have been harassed by criminals for seven years, she said.

De Almonte has been wanted by authorities since a mass kidnapping took place three weeks ago in Ajuchitlán del Progreso.

The gang, which split from the Beltrán Leyva cartel, is relatively new, but its leader is a suspect in the 2014 assassination of a San Miguel Totolapan councilor.

    1. Yea its good for them that they want to fight back but that little old lady is just an innocent mom also. If the kidnapped engineer turns out to already have been executed and his body was disappeared, do you think they should kill El Tequilero's mom?

By kidnapping this old lady these Self Defense Groups better be ready to play just as dirty as these criminals or they will lose. Si solo ladran sin morder van a perder contra los narcos.

    2. 2:49 while you are correct, I must add that family is reflected by the children, so, if mom, dad, or whoever raised these people, could still look their degenerate kids in the face after their horrible actions, or take the money, then they are complicit in some way.
Mexico is beautiful with very strong family. It is horrible to see how this low grade, underreported war has unfolded

    3. I would kill her regardless of the engineer shows up or not. Mercy is for the weak.

    4. ya she is so innocent that she is basking in the gifts and monies all paid by the yearly ransom fund account....get f'ing real....

    5. In my opinion this lady is as guilty as her son. She cannot say she did not know what her son was doing. She probable spent the money her son stole from kidnapped victims. The victims are poor innocent people who work hard for their money. She allowed her son to continue in his evil path of destruction instead of turning him in. She needs to be held accountable too. Like they say in Mexico- Tanto peca el que mata la vaca como el que le agarra la pata".

    6. They wont kill her. But if the husband is dead theyll most likely move her out of town somewhere to be held until her sons gets captured or killed. They already have detained numerous narcos and collaborators, it would seem right up thier alley to do this with her..

    8. @DAN KASS That's actually quite a smart move. They've already exchanged prisoners but holding a narco's family hostage is a pretty good way of pressuring them into making a mistake and getting caught or killed.

    10. 7:44am So according to you,Mercy is for the week...Ok so the engineer also should not be shown any mercy..He too should be murdered because his captures will be showing weakness if they release him, correct? You sound like someone who wants to sound tough so you say things to make ppl back up off of you..You CAN'T be serious with that JACKASS comment..Too bad you will probably never see this due to screening on bb but you won't be telling God he is weak when he shows you mercy for your own sins..Or will you tell him to hit you will all he has..

    11. All of you are so wrong about kids being a reflection of their parents. Plenty of good kids come from bad families and the other way around it happens also.

You don't low if she was taking his money or not. All of you need to chill out with judging and assuming this old lady deserves to die.

  2. This is direct challenge to the power of the state and will not be tolerated!!!

The Kidnappers of Mrs. Jacobo de Almonte will be apprehended - and if putting up resistance shot on the spot - and punished with the full force of the law. Additional security Forces will be called in to ensure that further such events and illegal congegrations are prevented.

The mexican people must know that the state and the government takes such intrusions into its realm of power and control utmost serious and IT WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!

    1. @12;28 The self-defense group that detained the mom and others that were thought to be gang members or collaborators will not be hard to find. On Sunday they took over the police station and that is where the mom and other detainees are being held. Though the government sent over 200 state and federal police to find and capture Tequilero, they have taken no action against the self-defense group or tried to free the detainees. In fact the government has announced it will assist acting as negotiator between the criminal gang and the self-defense group. If the government will provide security for the residents of the town there will be no need for the self-defense group.

    3. A government that can not protect it's own is an illegitimate government; this is the result of virtually no law and order in Mexico, where local government officials almost always sides with the criminals.

  3. At the end of the day it was the Colombian National Police that found and killed Escobar. But for about a year or so before he was caught there existed a vigilante group known as Los Pepes that sunk low to Pablo's level and began killing anyone and everyone associated with Pablo's Cartel in any way - even if they were just innocent family of a cartel worker.

Sadly that tactic was extremely effective and is a great way of dismantling a criminal group. Innocent people need to die for a criminal gang to start to realize that they can't win when their enemies aren't playing by the rule book. It looks like these people are sort of catching on to this idea but they're not as angry as the Colombians were. Plus Los Pepes were actually made up of a bunch of narcos and weren't actually citizens. I'm interested in seeing if these citizens in this Self Defense Group have what it takes to wage a dirty war against these narco criminals. I wish them luck but if they want to beat these criminals they're gonna have to stoop to their level and even kill innocent mothers or children or family members of the criminals.

Will they actually be able to execute El Tequilero's mother if the woman's engineer husband isn't returned? Are they actually ready to be like Los Pepes or are their threats all empty? Very interested to see how this resolves itself.

    1. Los Pepes was Cali cartel, dont be naive.

      Delete
    2. Los Pepes were the fabrication of the U.S. DEA to counter an untethered Pablo Escobar who thought of himself as an invincible god.

      Delete
    3. Pepes after Escobar were actually former associates of his and enemies that banded together under DEA inspiration IF not direct help to help capture Escobar. They were mostly ex criminals themselves out to satisfy their own personal business not necessarily to help the community like vigilante groups. Escobar built a Zoo in Columbia as well as some schools and gave money to the poor. Not even Chapo has been heard to do that crap. So Escobar whether his business in drugs merited all the negativity the U.S. has put out on him or not. You can't compare both armed groups however is my point.

    4. The narcos disguised as a resitance group already happened in Michoacan. They were pushed into Colima. These people want justice and peace . I doubt they want an eye for an eye.

  4. You're right to a certain point but back then in Colombia there was only 2 cartels!!! Right now in Mexico there are so many cartels that I actually don't know how many there are. Los Pepe's were mostly all bandidos lead by Don Berna, Los Rodríguez Orejuela, pancho Herrera , los Castano, plus the bloque de búsqueda and DEA... so basically all Colombia. México needs to do the same thing but the whole country needs to fight together. And if the engineer is dead the mother should be killed. Ojo por ojo pinche tequilero puto

    1. In colombia there was a quest to recover the drug trafficking business from la Pabla, who had stolen it all after the iran/contra left the 'murrikin' partners out in the cold.
--Alvaro uribe velez won that war and became a billionaire mass murdering sociopath on his own merits.
In mexico, the government is the one trying to subvert it all peacefully by murdering all the narcos and the "activists and stealing all their business

  5. The cartel is relatively new and the entire city hates this guy?? That's difference between a big Narco like Chapo, Mayo, Osiel, Karis, Los Carrillo Fuentes where their entire city backs them up because they actually protect their people and this rapillero(el taquilero)like la tuta said

  6. Eye for an eye. When the people rise up to protect themselves,THEY are then called criminals. If the kidnapped victim is dead, kill the mother and detainees .She isn't innocent. All victims need to rise up against the cartels, politicans, judges and corrupt police. Otherwise nothing will ever change.

Some of them can have their own company policies around the world, impose their rules and prices on others, and start their own wars for profit, AND A FEW have never handled a gun in person, other that to hunt for ducks and peasants, I mean pissants, i mean pheasants on the face by accidents...
And that is the problem of good men with guns, they usually merchandise their services to the highest bidder.

  22. Mostly empty threats, these "tough guys" make, until they find someone weaker than them that they can intimidate. Usually somebody's elderly mother or an innocent child, or even the mother's hairdresser. Never mind the ADs, this is why the criminals form "gangs" in the first place - so they have backup and buddies prepared for if situations like this should arise. It's all about how far they can push their luck, a loser's game if you think about it. Lose the backup and they're back to square 0, alone and hunted like a bear in the woods.
