Faced With Insecurity, More Autodefensas Begin Arising In Sonora & Morelos

Translated by Valor for Borderland Beat

With the increase of incidents of common crimes and the inaction from officials to fight against insecurity, citizens of Sonora and Morelos are beginning to organize themselves in order to confront criminals.

Morelos:

Members of 11 citizen groups, from eight municipalities of the eastern region, meeting in Yecapixtla, decided to give an ultimatum to the state government to restore security to their families, whose lives have been disrupted with the waves of executions, extortions, robberies, and kidnappings registered in the area.

Since the weekend, they gave the head of the state, Graco Ramírez, 30 days to put a stop to these crimes, which have become constant in the municipalities in the East, according to members of Grupo Relámpago, an organization that the residents of Tetela Del Volcán formed to defend themselves, officially recognized by the authorities.

Failure to improve the security atmosphere, 11 clusters of residents of eight municipalities in the region will rise up in arms to take over the protection of their families, in a similar movement of the autodefensas of Michoacán, in 2013, led by José Manuel Mireles, who is currently in prison.

“We will not hand over a couple of pesos to organized crime; we prefer to use that money to buy weapons,” said one of the group representatives, a kidnap victim, who requested anonymity for security reasons.

He announced that in recent times, the people have been victims of crimes that until recently was not registered, the so-called floor tax, that is, the imposition of quotas to families and merchants so that they won’t be bothered, by the criminal groups.

In the Eastern region, they won’t charge floor tax.  Let it be clear: we will defend our children and families by any means necessary…There’s determination in all of the organized groups of the region,” he said.

In addition to extortion, the residents have detected an increase in crimes such as car and cattle theft, at the expense of farmers in the region.

Among the organizations that could join the emergence of autodefensas in Morelos, there are the producers of cecina of Yecapixtla, who have lived through the ravages of crime, said the same source.

Sonora:

With the increase of incidents of common crimes and the inaction from officials to fight against insecurity, citizens of Sonora are beginning to organize themselves in order to take on criminals.

In states like Michoacán and Guerrero, the autodefensa groups emerged to fight federal crimes, such as organized crime and drug trafficking.

In Sonora, these civil groups organized to defend themselves, mainly from gangs and criminals who engage in committing ordinary crimes.  They do it, so far, without weapons.

According to official figures, household robberies, extortion, homicides, and injuries have increased in the state.

Insecurity is the main problem facing the newly elected governor, Claudia Pavlovich.

Household robberies soared 129% in the first three months compared with the same period last year.

In February of this year, 243 thefts were reported, while in the same month last year, it was 99.

    1. NAFTA left choices to the mexican farmers, be left behind on the street begging for charity or become a mariguana grower member of Confederación Nacional Campesina, El Barzon, Antorcha Campesina, or if you so desire and have a horse and weapon, a member of the zapatiza army, or a burro or a mule for the narcos, lately it came up that select miners were also being hired by the likes of La Chapa, el lazca knew a few from Hidalgo state, their "terrerista" employers do not pay them too much, and there was jobs digging coal to ship in dick cheney's trains to the US...(covering all that cocaine), all the mexican miner entrepreneurs used them to steal some billions to buy their employer's mines, but mexico got sold down the river for peanuts, drug trafficking is one of the consequences and one more good deal for "american visionaries" that own the profits.

    2. Hey in mexico there are a lot of jobs for freelance miners, if you don't mind the slavery conditions, the paisa overseers, the maruchan, the main thing is you are closer to the US...

There will be lots more blood in mexico before it gets better .
Several years ago the world considered mexico at high risk of government collapse . I suspect there has been no improvement.
If the citizens form their own law enforcement the government will try to crush them . Enough of them at the same time maybe not . Drug cartels are doing the same thing . Who will decide who is the cartel and who isn't ? Locally it will be known who is who but ...

    1. You people still don't see it the cartels are the people or at least once upon a time they were the people that they toss the blame for all their dirty deeds 99% of the murders in Mexico where masterminded by the government. Divide and Conquer in every protest that occurs in mexico the goverment hires people to burn rob throw rocks to discredit the cause. This is how mexico has always bien blame it on this or that group so people start pointing figures but never in the right direction always tricking them lying to them.

  14. This is exactly what they have to do. What they must do. All these men need to be examples of strong husbands, fathers, sons,etc... who aren't flip flopping and turning around to do the same thing that the criminals are doing. Guard and protect your homeland however do it without revenge if y'all can do it with integrity then we won't see this evil cycle such as: You hurt me and mine then I hurt you back. Be stronger than that. FREE JOSE MIRELES!!!! Praying for all of you guys.

    1. It's not about "I hurt you back". It is about killing the rabid dogs. If you act benevolent they will escape and kill you or yours. At least cut off their arms to permanently keeping them from rejoining the gang after paying their way out of prison.

  20. That's the only way Mexicans will have some level of security by defending themselves. The government never will

  21. This is another move to assimilate organized crime and corrupption into civil society. Look at how michoacan turned out after the legitimate civil uprising was crushed and infiltrated. This time its the Mexican government initiating it for that very purpose. The smart move would be for people to take the weapons then turn on the power structure and wisely use that force against them and take the power back..... I know that every mexican be them campesino, maestro, politico, empresario, narco, pandillero, policia, federal, o soldado wants mexico to live in peace.....this is our chance to turn the tables on them lets take it fuck it we are already dead...

  24. It's true,U.S funds these cartels and Mexican government. The mighty dollar has Mexicans running around like animals. Money is the root of all evil, no money from U.S and watch how Mexico would be a better calmer country. D.E.A gives cartels the green light to cross drugs for a price and cartels and D.E.A win but Mexicans loose. C.I.A gives cartels heavy ammunition like AK 47, Granade launchers, 50 cals.. c.IA and cartels win and lose because they give all cartels the heavy ammo.but average Mexicans lose..U.S presidents give money to crooked Mexican presidents to fight drug cartels but they use it to buy big homes and for retirement for generations after they are dead. See the big picture.. good luck Mexico. Real spit!

    ReplyDelete
  25. @11:11 You are the one who does not see the "BIG" picture my friend! You make it sound like cartels run Mexico like Sharia law does in the Muslim world which is not the case. Just because you read BB which is by its nature biased into reporting the cartel violence in Mexico does not reflect the day to day life of the millions of honest hard working Mexicans in a country of around 150 million inhabitants. The statistics you might come across here that can state that around 75 thousand people have died in the cartel wars in over a decade in Mexico is not even a percentage of its population. You claim that the U.S. sends millions of dollars in aid to Mexico to help battle the cartels only to have its politicians gobble the money up for their pleasure is also not true. If this where the case I, would bet you anything that the U.S. would have stooped sending money to Mexico years ago. You open your eyes and see the real big picture! NOT ALL MEXICANS ARE CRIMINALS! Stupid Donald Trump - stop posting here!

    2. From @11:16 to @11:16 what the Fuck do you want? Whining and bitching is not going to solve anything! Chapo and many other top capos have been caught or eliminated in Mexico during the past ten years or so. New laws are being made daily in Mexico (of which you will never read about here on BB), such as holding politicians accountable for their wealth and long prison terms for them if they break any laws among many others. Something unheard of in Mexico before! I'm not saying everything in Mexico is in tip top shape but Motherfuckers like you will never be happy with Mexico until in becomes a superpower of sorts so that then you can complain about it being a threat to America because of its economical and perhaps military might!

      Delete
    3. @4:26 I applaud you for defending the good things that are happening in Mexico. I don't think you are being fair to BB about not reporting on it. But all too often those "good things" are thwarted by corrupt government officials or the corrupt political parties. Your reference to the Ley 3 de 3 initiative is a good example.

There is nothing really to report on other than a group of citizens drafted a anti-corruption bill to implement a constitutional anti-corruption reform passed last year. They gathered nearly 3 times the required 120,000 signatures and presented it to Congress which by law is required to debate and vote on it.

PRI and it's allies in Congress blocked and delayed any action on it and there it languished until Congress adjourned for summer vacation last week. Some momentum will certainly be lost before it can be considered again in Sept. (as was intended by PRI). They have their own anti-corruption bills they want to push, but allowing politicians to write their own anti-corruption bill is like asking a futbol player to referee his own game.

I think the citizens movement that brought about Ley 3 de 3 is one of the exciting things happening in Mexico. I think the election of a independent (with a little L) candidate, not affiliated or supported by a political party to the governorship for the first time in Mexico's history is exciting. Whether he will turn out to be a good governor is secondary. I have long been a supporter of the true auto-defense groups. All are accomplishments of the people.

    4. DD you said they got 3 X amount of signatures required by law. and then they are just lally gagging with it.Doesn't that show some kind of guilt?[but prove it,right?]I see what you mean about the corrupt politicians passing their own laws. That's like the fox guarding the henhouse.Won't make a bit of difference but over time may get the wheels of justice rolling however slow.An independents a great idea.Boy wouldn't that really mess the higher ups up?They wouldn't know what hit them kind of like when PAN got in for those 12 years.Kind of like Donald Trump shaking up the status quo.As much as the Donald is abrupt the status quo doesn't know what to do with him.
