Confrontation between Marines and armed men leaves 8 dead in Reynosa

Translated by Otis B Fly-Wheel for Borderland Beat from a Zetatijuana article

Subject Matter: Reynosa, Cartel del Golfo
Recommendation: No prior subject matter knowledge required

Various chases and shootouts between elements of the Marines and a group of armed men ended in a confrontation which left eight people dead.

The events took place in the Villa Florida Colonia, Vallas del Roble, Paseo Residencial and Los Granjas.

The Marines, at all times, counted on the support of area surveillance from a helicopter, which according to witness, was fired upon by the armed group.

The social networks buzzed with the version of events, and that among the victims was "El Commandante Toro", leader of the Gulf Cartel in the Region, but until last night there had been no confirmation from any authorities.

The Las Granjas Colonia was the location of the final firefight in which the eight alleged members of organized crime were taken down.

Las Granjas Colonia is shaded blue in this image
Reynosa activated the yellow alert in its public traffic light security system, alerting the citizenry to not circulate in the Las Granjas and Villa Florida Colonias.

Yesterday in Ciudad Victoria, the Tamaulipas Group for Coordination had a meeting to evaluate the integral security program for the State, with the Government Secretary, Miguel Angel Osorio Chong.

The functionary affirmed that its necessary to redouble its forces and not to lower their guard if they are to have the possibility of recuperating the tranquility of the area.

Reynosa Follow on twitter carries some videos which I have linked in below, they show the low flying Marine Blackhawks. They also comment on road blocks thrown up in the area of the incident in Las Granjas Colonia. Reynosa follow also comments that the Colonia is a known point of sale of drugs, by criminals.

  4. Toro has had more close calls than Chapo. Strange that Marina has been going after Los metros leadership hard these past few months after they left Ciclones in the hands of a kidnapper.

    2. It is like el matadero, or slaughter house, very rarely a pig or a cow falls down on their killer...
--Same with these "made to order criminals" the mexican forces murder to justify their presence in the area...
--if they finish "the job" they get sent home, then they have to be sicarios or drug traffickers and fight each other for their lives, for reals...
There is no GI bill in mexico, and no VA administration and no special treatment for military retirees, except a few criminals like "lieutenant" Julian Leyzaola now enjoying his retirement in a nice well chromed wheelchair...
