Puebla: Human Remains Found In Barrels

Translated by Valor for Borderland Beat

Authorities in Puebla found human remains inside barrels in the municipality of San Andrés Calpan.  The discovery was confirmed by the district attorney’s office of the state on March 4.  The district attorney’s office also added that scientific analyses have been carried out to try to identify the victims.

The district attorney’s office stated that human remains belonging to 12 adult men were found in at least ten steel barrels.

“There are indications that suggest that the discovery is related to the investigation that began with events that happened in the Teatro del Pueblo in the municipality of Cuautlancingo, the place in which, as was previously reported, where police work was carried out along with the securing of several vehicles, after receiving the report of missing persons,” the district attorney’s office said.

In addition, authorities in Puebla arrested six men for their alleged responsibility for the crime of false statements, since the detainees “accommodated and looked after vehicles” on the day of the events in Cuautlancingo.

On March 1, the District Attorney’s Office of Puebla reported that at least three people disappeared after a shootout in Cuautlancingo.

The incident occurred during a cockfight, which was performed at the Teatro del Pueblo of Cuautlancingo, where “several people from different organizations” gathered for the cockfight.

For that reason, authorities took the statements of “various people” and 13 vehicles were secured at the location and the videos of the security cameras were requested, “considering that several subjects were shooting.”

Furthermore, the attorney general’s office denied information about people injured or killed from the incident that occurred in Cuautlancingo, after other versions became known indicating that a group of armed men stormed the Teatro del Pueblo, where two people were killed and 20 more were kidnapped.

Other versions state that an armed commando of at least 25-30 people arrived looking for a man known as “El Apache”.

Cuautlancingo is a municipality that is part of the metropolitan area of Puebla, while San Andrés Calpan is located about 40 kilometers from the state’s capital.

  1. That's pretty awful but it's a commonplace occurrence in this war. What hasn't happened in a long time is the discovery of a mass grave with 100+ remains, San Fernando Tamaulipas style.

That's good news that we don't hear about that anymore don't get me wrong. I think the stats show that violence is steadily declining, even with the splintering of the big cartels into smaller groups. You would think violence would be at its worst with all the rivaling splinter cells that now exist in Mexico.

Violence has always been bad for business but it seems that the factions in charge today love terrorizing the populations they rule over instead of moving drugs and leaving the citizenry alone. All these opposing forces are working in tangent and leaves the level of violence we should expect a big mystery. Just have to wait and see how these criminals use violence moving into the future. The future where instead of 10 big cartels we have 150 independent cells controlling tiny pockets of teritory.

    1. Declining? Really? You just said that? It's not declining. The PRI is not reporting all of the crimes anymore. They have instructed the policia and military officers to keep things quiet. All of the violence brings unwanted attention to the Mexican government's high levels of corruption and affects tourism. I spoke my cousin, who lives Gomez Palacio. He said there were around a 20 bodies found in a grave just outside Saltillo, near Patos, last month while a crew was working on a drainage ditch. He said the policia was told not to tell reporters and to alter any official reports. We all know the Los Zetas run the roads in that area. But the community knows about this.

      It's probably better broken up.
Think about the CEO of a Corporation he only knows each board diretor from each department. He doesn't know the exact conditions or any employees under each board of directors just a briefing.

With a smaller company you can see over your business quickly and in a detailed way. If you don't manage your company right the competition takes you out.

I haven't been to Mexico in a long time so I don't actually know.

Seems like it's all regional any way.

    1. Zetas dominate Puebla. El Apache seems to be an independent hitman.

    2. 238. Research what happens to bodies after they are cremated or after they are submerged in acid. There will be blackened burned marks on the skeleton, if the entirety of the body was not disintegrated. The shirt on the skeleton is intact, and the skeleton is partially mummified.

    3. The hand is part of that body. U can see the shoulder n elbow bone while the skin is tearing away nn decaying. Body parts sometimes decay faster than other parts. That looks like decomposing rather than acid. The skin is still there for the most part and with acid ursoft tissues dissolve quicker

    1. I added it to begin with. it was in puebla news paper with many other "scene" fotos. I took it down because it became the point of discussion. I will try again. Dozens of bodies were found some in acid, others in various stages of decomposition.
