Is Sean Penn a CIA operative?

By Lucio R. Borderland Beat written with material from Reforma and Daily Mail

'Is Sean Penn a CIA spy?'

That’s the buzz being generated.  There are always those who look for oddities that lend towards theories of conspiracy, we have more than our fair share here at BB. One of my favorite conspiracy comments from the Sean Penn/Chapo story, is the reader saying he thought maybe Penn insisted on shaking Chapo’s hand when he did, because the actor may have had a location “tracking” film he transferred to Chapo.  An invisible GPS film.

But, in the case of Penn, and his history, it is not out of the bounds of reason to speculate.

For me, the eyebrow arching fact in this drama, is the timing of the interview release.

From Daily Mail:
Conspiracy theorists claim actor's interview with El Chapo was an elaborate government plot to capture fugitive drug lord
As news emerged of the peculiar series of events that led to El Chapo's capture, Twitter was ablaze with one question: Is Sean Penn a CIA spy?
The actor met with the world's most wanted drug lord in the jungle to ask him a handful of Hollywood-worthy questions such as 'do you dream?' and 'how would you define yourself?'
And then just hours after the Sinaloa cartel leader was detained by Mexican marines, the Rolling Stone published a lyrical 10,000-word account of their meeting.

Chavez with Penn
That is the part I think about and can’t reconcile as to why anyone would sit on the only interview ever conducted with a enigmatic man known globally, and releasing the interview within 2 days after El Chapo’s recapture.

Daily Mail also points out, the CIA using those of the entertainment business before on clandestine projects.

Rumors of various actors working for the CIA has spanned generations.  People such as Marilyn Monroe.

And then there is 'Argo'.

From The Daily Mail:
Supposedly the entire 'clandestine horror show' - as Penn put it - was part of a research project to develop a Netflix-style drama about Guzmán and his prison break.
Though Penn insists he went to extreme lengths to hide the meeting from authorities, the details have sparked widespread speculation that he was in fact tapped by the CIA to locate the fugitive criminal - just as screenwriters were enlisted to make Argo to free US hostages in Iran in 1979.  It would hardly be the first time the CIA had tapped a Hollywood-ite for their connections to take a different approach an international political case.
Argo was a movie fabricated for CIA operatives to have an excuse to fly to Iran during the hostage crisis in 1979.
Tony Mendez led the team to recover six American diplomats from Tehran, pretending that they were all members of a production team.
The Central Intelligence Agency is openly cooperative with Hollywood
Researchers who specialize in the CIA's connection with Hollywood, Dr Matthew Alford and Tom Secker, told DailyMail.com on Sunday: 'Spies have long used Hollywood as a front, from Pretty Woman producer Arnon Milchan, who admitted to stealing US nuclear secrets for Mossad, to Frederick Forsyth who did 'favours' for MI6. So the theory that Sean Penn was part of a CIA sting operation is an intriguing possibility.'

El Chapo admitted in the peculiar interview to being the biggest drug trafficker in the world and said
Raul Castro and Penn
he sent engineers to Germany to learn how to build the tunnel he would eventually use to escape a maximum security prison.  The tunnel was a difficult project, even for the team working for the narco tunnel master, El Chapo.   There was a water table to contend with.

Legal minds say the video could be used against him if his case goes to trial in any of the 8 U.S. jurisdictions having indictments against the capo.

This isn’t the only controversial interview Penn has conducted.  In the past 9 years in has met with and interviewed:

Venezuela President Hugo Chavez

In 2012, he met with Argentina's president Cristina Kirchner to discuss growing tensions between Argentina and the UK.

Evo Morales Bolivian President at the presidential palace  in 2012

Cuban President  Raul Castro in 2008

He became friends with Valenzuela, and attended his funeral, as did Jessie Jackson.

Penn answered questions sent to him by the Mexican Press via email today.  One of the questions pose to him, was his reaction when discovering he was being followed during his trip to see Chapo, and photos were released:

“I have no regrets about my trip to Mexico to meet Joaquin “el Chapo” Guzman Loera.

The actor Sean Penn said he has no regrets about his clandestine trip to Mexico to interview the Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo '' Guzman.

“I have nothing to hide”.  He also expressed no regrets or thoughts of journalistic ethical missteps, for forwarding Chapo his finished article for his approval.

He previously  stated that Chapo changed nothing of the article.

In a poll asking “is Sean Penn a CIA spy?” 51% say YES opposed to 49% NO

Where do I fall among the poll takers?  Somewhere in between.  Although I won’t lose any sleep over thinking about the possibility, but I do agree it is an intriguing possibility.

  6. I guess CIA and US military is pretty good as using actors for their need. Even in WWII they used used the Ghost Army to fake the Germans. I guess using a Hollywood star would be good bait. And if Sean Penn gets killed, imagine how much attention to this problem it would bring.

Funny the mexican govt didnt say something about it til AFTER the interview came out and embaressed the HELL out of the govt. It exposes just how incompetent the mx govt is!! Too much money and power at stake, so of course they lied. Its funny how articles started coming out ASKING if mx govt knew, again, before mx came out and said the penn article tipped em off.

Wouldn't it be the DEA handling this? CIA is mainly terrorists. Chapo hasn't exactly earned that title yet. When the public start making up stories, they should have their lettered federal agencies correct!

Sean Penn says El Mencho is next. He's going after the Jalisco Cartel. El Penn has a vision of only One Cartel. It will be known as "THE Mexican Cartel".

Guzman had billions, Pablo had billions.. Guzman was the head of a cartel, Pablo was the head of a cartel. Guzman escaped from prison, Pablo built his own prison and then escaped.

Pablo might have died younger but at least he went out shooting unlike Chapo who clearly will be headed to a SuperMax since he didn't have the guts to shoot at the Marinas.

Why didn't Guzman shoot? Scared of dying? He sure as hell isn't scared to kill... Your big bad boss clearly isn't as tough as a lot of you think.

Really funny that Chapo thought Sean Penn was the way to tell his story to the world, haha. He must be a lot dumber than we give him credit for. or maybe he's smarter; the only people placing any value on the poorly done piece of (so-called) "journalism" are stoned young Rolling Stoners. They want to believe Chapo is just a poor guy selling drugs because there is nothing else he can do, because they want to justify buying them and certainly don't want guilt on their own consciences. I don't think very many mature adults think the Penn story is worth the paper it's printed on.

They went to see about a call from a citizen about armed men at a house. Who comes up with this stuff? A person with the power of Chapo wouldn't let those stupid marines man handle him like that nor would throw marines dare try it. Just look at how they present Z40, LA Barbie, JJ and other capos. They won't even touch them most of the time now imagine them grabbing the neck of the most wanted man in America like that!! Nah...it's not him nor the house they found them at or the guys who died there weren't real. They all had coupe de tat of whatever they call it and then they planted the guns right next to the bodies. And then the video of the Marines sOrting through house looks as fake as a bad Hollywood movie. We ain't stupid.

    1. Finally a man with brains.

"DNA and all that ain't shit unless you do the test yourself. As much as you guys wish this was real, it's not.

Chapo Guzman has around 5,000 Elite sicarios at his service all over his Sinaloa Federation group of cartels. His sole faction could have from 1,000 to 2,000. And I'm talking about Elite groups, not casual pistoleros.

Chapo has hundreds of halcones which are also civilians not only municipal crooked cops.

He was supposed to be detained by Policia Federal in some ridiculous escape where this billionaire had to steal shitty cars. Policia Federal is corrupted as fuck as well and Chapo would know their faces, patrol number, info, etc. Believe me federales would have helped his ass if they knew who it was or turn a blind eye.

Let's pretend they got him like that, why take him to some hotel, to humiliate him? That's anti constitutional and they never mocked any other narcos even smaller time ones.

      Let's be real now.

      Arturo Beltran Leyva outcome:
      - His chief of security betrayed him.
      - They sent 200 soldiers to apprehend a group of around 10 people who were in the house of Barbas.
      - The shootout lasted HOURS.
      - Arturo knew they couldn't get him alive, he knew too much.

      Tony Tormenta outcome:
      - Apparently his security chief also set him up.
      - Same story, like A LOT of Marinos to fuck with about 10 guys in an office.
      - Shootout lasted some hours as well.
      - Intense mobilization of sicarios around the area and shootouts with the army in different points of the city.
      - Tony also knew he couldn't be gotten alive.

Pablo "El Zorro de Ojinaga" outcome:
      - His jefe de seguridad "Amado Carrillo" set him up.
      - Same story, shootout finale.

Do we see a pattern? Yes? So I hope someone with brains can tell the difference between staged and real. On a side note for the all knowing Americanos, even Mexican reporters don't believe this shit and are openly debating it. Mexican people neither as much as the first arrest which daring scape is unreal. "

      Delete
    2. 10:06 I get what you are saying but the reality is this. Look at the history of powerful men getting killed or apprehended while being a high priority target. Sadam Hussein and Pablo Escobar were found at places that could be considered far beneath them. Osama Bin Laden wasn't guarded by hundreds of Al Qaeda fighters. The difference between Chapo and the other mafiosos you mentioned is that Chapo escaped from prison two times. When you are a fugitive as big as Chapo it is unwise to roll with 1000's of sicarios because that kind of presence gives you away. It also gives a 1000 sicarios the chance to snitch on you. A person like Chapo would have only a small security team to keep a low profile so not to spark the attention of the Feds. I would have been completely surprised to hear that Chapo was killed in the shootout with the Marina because that is not his style. I'm almost sure that Chapo doesn't even carry a firearm on him. He leaves that up to the workers.

      Delete
    3. Very good points 8:09 but I think there would at least be some halcones from the cartel, not even knowing Chapo is in town, informing normally of a huge convoy of Marinos coming in town.

The version was by the way that it was some anonymous citizen report of armed men in a house, this makes my first point stronger. If Marinos were not coming after Chapo officially and just checking on a house with armed men I think Cholo Ivan's people would of got tipped on the radios by the Municipal Police themselves. You may have no idea of the corruption and influence of these dudes, they have cartel members with badges in many towns.

The whole "rolling low key" and with few body guards sounds very realistic but what doesn't seem very realistic apart from what I already exposed is the fact that this most wanted man had to steal cars, Didn't he have a car around? Outside of his movie style tunnel? Was that the only sewer to scape to the street? I think he would have ran a little bit more to a distant location and get out on a better part of town. I think he would have all this figured out since the moment that he created the tunnel...

      Delete
  27. Regardless if he is or not Chapo was dumb to let him enter into his circle in the first place. Your a wanted man, you just don't agree to meet an unknown actor (Chap apparently didn't know who he was) and an actress who your infatuated with. Also, didn't he have anyone assessing him on the the situation, telling him it wasn't wise to meet these two clowns.

    1. 3:34 Very good points sir. Now here is a humble opinion... The 2014 arrest was in Mazatlan which is also supposed to be Beltranes turf. Chapo had only one bodyguard at the time so I think the most logical scenario was that Beltranes snitched too that day since virtually nobody knew of his location. (I personally never believed in that arrest because I think Chapo if in Sinaloa would never leave Badiraguato region at all).

-Then Chapo escapes like from a movie with obvious corruption from authorities.- (I personally believe is another fairy tale just as the laundromat cart escape from 2001).

So all of a sudden Chapo gets arrested again in Beltranes turf, I don't think he would make the same mistake twice. I also don't think Beltranes would send Chapo to jail knowing that he may be safer inside, running things still and with the possibility of escaping again with corruption.

(I also believe that in "real life" the army never gets high profile bosses alive, when they go against them like that is to kill them because they know too much about corrupted officials all over the country not only a state, and all the way up to USA crooked agents too).

I think that if Beltranes ever find El Chapo they will send all they got to kill him.

In my opinion this is just a show and that is not El Chapo nor was in 2014.
